Re: Linux
Windows does have better compatibility with games but games do typically run better on Linux (when they work) so it might be a driver issue. Is the resolution setting within the game different on Linux then it is on your Windows by any chance? Have you tried playing Rayman Origins through PlayOnLinux? PlayOnLinux is a Linux app that makes the whole process of playing Windows games on Linux so much easier. PlayOnLinux technically is Wine but it does all the complicated stuff for you and all you do is boot up the game and maybe it'l have you create a few things (for each windows program) but it guides you step by step to make sure it is set right. The kernel doesn't affect game performance. The hardware and the program (Wine.) affect the game performance. I did get Rayman Raving Rabids pc version to work perfectly one one time, all I did was install steam, (windows version) downloaded the game from there and I ran the game through PlayOnLinux. I had a duel boot at the time and it did actually run much better on Linux then Windows 10 on my laptop. I did it with Bodhi Linux Distro but any Distro should work but if you need a softer gui os Bodhi Linux might be the one to get your game to run best due to it's very lightweightness. (unless you want to go command line controlled os.)

Re: Linux
Ah yeah I get what you mean, that would be a giant pain in the arse, though I guess it should be fine having both in the same prefix.

OpenGL shaders seem to be much better in Linux on Mesa than they are when using the actual AMD drivers (even in Windows). I'm guessing the juddering I get is probably a side effect of Wine and I'm just more sensitive to the issue than others, but it's not present in Windows on a GTX 970.

I was running that Cemu emulator and it's literally just unplayable on Windows using AMD because the driver performs so bad on GL shaders. It literally just keeps pausing and stuttering very heavily, but in Linux it runs at a really high framerate only it has the slight juddering thing going on. As expected, it runs perfect on Nvidia under Windows. I bought a Vega 64 though and that's what I intend to use

Re: Rayman Origins
Yeah true. I usually turn back in the opposite direction and slow down quickly in those cases, but in the really open spaces it can help and also on the ice levels especially.

Re: Rayman Origins
I don't recommend spinning and jumping through the currents every time you come across one unless you are good with dogging all the obstacles at the fast pace. If you don't have to much to dodge a lot then you can spin and jump without fear of death. Really, it just depends how the level is that you are playing.

Re: Rayman Origins
Spinning and jumping into those currents actually works wonders on the speed trophy stages.

Re: Rayman Origins
I accidentally discovered the 2nk trick that I mentioned when I played the Rayman Origins demo for the first time before I got the game, so I known that trick for awhile. another trick I found for speeding was to (only when apropriate.) jump through the air currents. (Much faster then gliding and running through the air currents.)

Re: Rayman Origins
I've used both of these tricks very often in both Origins and Legends. They actually prove very useful :)

Edit: The wall one is particularly useful when you're mini because of the way he punches, he basically floats for longer too.

Re: Rayman Origins
If you hit the button to spin and then jump off of an edge you can get a small speed boost but any amount is good, the speed comes from the momentum from the spin but you have to time the spin and the jump to get the best result.

Also I know one way to save yourself if you fall down or something in the game, if you are by a wall while you are falling, wall jump from it, hit the attack button in the air, then helicopter toward the wall, and repeat this until you get to the top again. each time you should be able to jump your way back up avoiding death.

Hi guys!

Tonight we've successfully upgraded all of the software used by the forum and wiki as well as moved to a brand new server, with a much more recent configuration! This took a bit of time and lot of work but it seems to have gone smoothly.

While the new version of the forum was well tested and should work just fine, we're pretty much discovering the new version of the wiki at the same time as you and we're well aware of the few cosmetic issues that have appeared following the update. They shouldn't prevent its use and we'll be sure to fix them in the next few days!

Please note that from now on, there will be no need to log in to the forum and wiki separately, as our new single sign-on system will automatically log you in to the wiki if you're authenticated on the forum. We've also extended SSL usage to all of our subdomains, and that's probably about it for noticeable feature changes! While there are major differences under the hood between this version and the previous one, the goal is that it shouldn't be too different from the one you're used to. ;)

Of course, if you notice anything strange please let me know and I'll get to it ASAP.

Today is the fifteenth birthday of Pirate-Community. For over a decade and a half now, we have strived to make this place the best we can for Rayman fans, and while there's always room for improvement, we have a lot to be proud of!

While the past year may have been the emptiest so far in terms of Rayman news, there's still a lot to say about the old games in the series, and in fact the forum saw a significant increase in activity at the beginning of this year. Over the last twelve months, 66,538 messages were posted, leading us to a grand total of 1,280,374. That's 7,834 more than the previous year, and while it's still less than we did eleven years ago in 2006/2007, this was without a record day (taking place this Saturday) and with a relatively recent activity bump, so we have many reasons to be optimistic about next year.

RayWiki, indisputably the number one source of Rayman knowledge, now features 5,166 articles in seven languages, an increase of 382 since last year. That's more than one content article a day, and I'd like to thank our contributors for this amazing work.

RayTunes is still the music behemoth we all love, with over 20 GB of high-quality music that our members now enjoy listening to directly on the forum.

And while no major features have been released lately, we're still working hard on software updates and upcoming improvements.

Thank you for your continued support, long live Rayman, long live Pirate-Community!

Hi everyone,

I'm pleased to announce a new Rayman contest named "Riddles of the Glade"! In this contest, competitors try to solve clues that reference to a character/object/place from the Rayman series to win prizes.

Head on over to the thread to learn more and compete.

Good luck!

Fourteenth years ago, Pirate-Community was created with the goal of bettering and consolidating a Rayman community in very bad shape. It goes without saying that no one expected such a success, let alone the community to still be around after all this time.

Rayman news are scarce these days, and with the only events last year being the announcement of yet another port (Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition) and that of a new title in a now separate series (Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle), it is safe to say that nothing happened in Rayman's world.

The forum is the first to suffer from such a dearth of news, and the 58,704 messages posted last year, for a total of 1,213,836, are the lowest figure since 2005/2006, setting us back to activity levels from over a decade ago. Thankfully, there's a lot more to it, and last year the forum saw a major update with everything being rewritten from scratch and dozens of new features and various improvements being added. A new staff was also elected, the modding and utilities subforum was created, and lots of new contests and various activities were launched.

Last year also saw RayTunes's biggest update since its creation, with a brand new website, an integrated player, the possibility to embed songs on the forum, and plenty of new tracks, among other things. It was a good year for RayWiki too, which now contains 4,784 articles in seven languages, an improvement of 305 over last year.

So, as you've figured out already, there's still a lot going on around here, and this is isn't going to change anytime soon.

Long live Rayman, long live Pirate-Community!

As some members may be aware, Photobucket no longer allows for free hosting of images on third party sites. As such, any signatures or other embedded images that were uploaded to Photobucket will not display on the forums, instead a watermark will take their place.

Members are recommended to migrate to another image host, or use RPC's attachment upload where possible.

RayTunes, our Rayman music archive, has just received its biggest upgrade ever! Apart from its new modern design, RayTunes 5.0 allows you to play every song in the collection on the website itself.
However, the content update is even bigger. Three completely new soundtracks (including the educative games) have been added and many soundtracks have received extra tracks. On top of that, every single soundtrack now has new or improved album art, better track names and tags. An MP3 archive is finally available for each one, as well as a FLAC archive for most.
More detailed info about the update can be found here. Enjoy!

Hi all,

I am happy to announce the return of our Rayman-themed contest, Manipulate the Image!

The goal is simple: take the Rayman-related graphic chosen by the contest's previous winner and modify it to make something amusing. You can essentially modify it any way you want, so don't be shy!
The current season is number 61, and the image to manipulate is Helico Ray. Entries can be submitted up to 9 June. The winner will receive Tings and the right to choose the image to be manipulated in Season 62!

Good luck to all!
