I made another interesting discovery. There seems to be one more floating point variable that is passed on to the function that handles the FOV value, and it also has a value of 1.5 (but it is not the same as the inventory FOV variable).

This "FOV-like" variable seems to determine the position of the savefile names in the savegame menu:
  • You can see the text position in the unpatched 4:3 game in the attached screenshot 4_3.png.
  • When you only change the aspect ratio to 16:9, this text now gets a little bigger and its vertical position seems a little off (it's not right on the line anymore). It's horizontal position with respect to the (now stretched) background seems correct. See picture 16_9_A.png.
  • If you change the aspect ratio to 16:9 AND scale the "FOV-like" variable with the aspect ratio in the same manner as the other FOV variables, then the text ends up in exactly the same position on screen as in the unpatched 4:3 game (although it still "looks" misplaced, because the background is stretched). See picture 16_9_B.png.
What is even more interesting is that in the "old" version of the game, this variable also seems to determine the positioning of the items on the inventory screen. If you don't scale the variable the items end up off-screen and are not visible at all!
For now, I have implemented the scaling of this variable into both the "old" and the "Pentium III" version of the fix, because even though it is not strictly necessary in the "Pentium III" version, it seems like the more "reasonable" solution and might fix problems in other areas of the game, too ;)

BTW: I wonder if such a variable exists in Hype: The Time Quest, too... and if it could be used to fix the text positioning for higher aspect ratios 8)
Good work so far! Finally now the inventory 3D items look right, but sadly the background images are still stretched... Also could something be done about the missing geometry in the main menu?

Missing geometry at 16:9
Laura 2024-06-24 23-26-22-419.png

In 48:9 it's hilarious, apart from the totally missing geometry in the sides, there are some 2D elements that are stretched, like the menu buttons:
Image

Also I think it would be best to unstretch all the background images in selection menus, loading screens and settings menus to center them at the 4:3 area and leaving black bars on the sides, better than the stretched look:
Laura 2024-06-25 00-34-54-82.png

The 3D items in the inventory now have the proper FOV, but the stretched image makes it look weird:
Laura 2024-06-25 00-35-29-331.png

Also the pause menu background is stretched, but at least the texts in all menus look correct:

Last but not least, could you release the fix for the resolution limit ingame? Seems to be the same issue for all three Playmobil games :/

Rayman: DreamBound
I'm pleased to present my fangame: Rayman: DreamBound
a 2D platformer inspired by Rayman Redemption and ubiart games in a cartoon style, the game will take elements from phoenix interactive's cancelled Rayman 4 prototype and original elements with narration.
Development has just begun and I can't wait to show you more images and details of this project, which is very close to my heart.
for now, here's the game's logo and Rayman's design :D

Thanks for the bug report!

I took another look at the fix.sna and there are, indeed, three references to the value "1.4".
I also cross checked the scripts in RayMap and found the following piece of code in the script for the camera object ([Camera] StdCam | StdCamer):
RayMap_1.png
This function (Procedure_Camera_ChangeFocal) comes up a total number of three times in the scripts for the camera object, and the offsets displayed in RayMap coincide exactly with the positions of the three occurences of "1.4" in fix.sna. So with a bit of luck, we should have found ALL the relevant bytes in fix.sna ;)

What COULD theoretically happen, of course, is that there are map-specific scripts (e.g. cutscenes) that change the FOV. The sun-dial time travelling in Hype is an example of this. In this case, one would have to make adjustments to the individual <MapName>.sna files just like I did with Hype. If anyone stumbles across one of these situations - please let me know and I will try to fix it.

TLDR: I have made the necessary adjustments to the python scripts in the post above :)
Thanks for that, maybe there are defined FOV values for certain scripted moments, I'm not really sure :D. Although I found the inventory menu seems to have its own FOV for the 3D objects that are selectable (including the backpack, which seems to be 3D as well):

As announced during Rayman Alive, the yearly community event showcasing fan projects, we are proud to announce the launch of Rayfanpedia, the wiki for Rayman fanworks!

The talent and creativity of the Rayman community are quite outstanding, and the aim of this project is to document them as thoroughly and extensively as possible. Whether you're looking to read about the great projects fans are working on, or to write about your own, Rayfanpedia is the place for this!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank dr_st and Rayman Saturn, who initially posited the ideas that evolved into Rayfanpedia, created most of its content as of today and accepted to become its benevolent dictators. I must also thank Hoodcom and Elite Piranha, the architects of Rayfanpedia's visual identity, without whom the site would have looked no different from a million others. Special thanks go to Unheard, Rayman Universe and Adsolution, for being early editors and writing about their wonderful projects, and Pirate-Community's moderating team for their support and advice.

I hope you will take as much pleasure browsing and contributing to this project as we had creating it. The floor is yours now!

In May I was invited to a community workshop at Ubisoft Milan to playtest Rayman in the Phantom Show. I would like to thank Ubisoft Milan, Davide and the development team for inviting me to the studio. The whole experience was simply quite magical.

The team has worked so hard. To witness the creative processes behind the game development was fascinating. From my experience I wholeheartedly would love to see Ubisoft Milan work on Rayman again in the future.

I can't wait for you all to play the game. So much work has been put into this brand new Rayman adventure. From my experience of visiting the studio you seriously got a sense of how much love the studio has for Rayman.

On behalf of ItzalDrake, I am honored to deliver a personal message from Davide Soliani to the whole community ahead of Rayman in the Phantom Show:
For all of us at Ubisoft Milan who worked on DLC 3, it was a dream come true to be able to bring Rayman back into the Mario + Rabbids universe because Rayman is the first game I made when I joined Ubisoft in 1999.

There I worked on Rayman for GameBoy Color, Rayman's movements, and at the time the designers didn't only make the game structure and the rules but also the levels, so I learned to make my first levels, exploit the limitations of the console and memory limitations and for me so it was a dream to be able to bring back in Rayman in the Phantom Show DLC.

So I hope that the community and all Rayman players support us as much as possible because I'm on a mission: my mission is to be able to bring Rayman back to the glory he deserves.

Among other things, in the DLC there is a secret hidden message that players who will 100% complete the DLC can read!
So I hope for your support and I hope you like it!

Today, we celebrate a remarkable milestone in the history of Pirate-Community: it's with immense joy and pride that we watch as our community turns twenty! Two decades of camaraderie, knowledge sharing, and passion for the Rayman series – it's a journey that began with a small group of fans and has grown into a vibrant and thriving community that stands as a testament to our enduring love for all things Rayman.

As we reflect upon the past year, the most important news is of course the announcement and upcoming release of Rayman in the Phantom Show, the DLC for Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope which will mark the return of the limbless hero. We hope for it to be a success and pave for the way for Rayman to come back in his long-awaited fourth adventure.

In terms of research and exploration, this year has been nothing short of exciting. We've witnessed the unveiling of an early version of Rayman Raving Rabbids, featuring platforming and combat elements. The source code and editor published alongside it allowed modders to polish the prototype and release a much-improved version, playable by the everyday fan. The publication of new images originating from the cancelled Rayman 4 by Phoenix Studio also shed light on this elusive prototype. Overall, the modding scene continues to flourish, with innovative patches and enhancements that breathe new life into classic Rayman titles.

The realm of fan games is abuzz with activity too, and the release of Rayman: The Dreamer's Boundary was the highlight of the year in that regard, while the Rayman: Alive livestream gathered an impressive amount of viewers eager to discover the many other fan projects it showcased. The development of projects such as RaymanDesigner.com, a new hub for Rayman Designer levels, also promises a future rich with creative endeavors. Needless to say, we find ourselves awed by the remarkable accomplishments and continued enthusiasm that define our community.

In other news, our third edition of SpeedRay, the speedrunning contest, was a resounding success, celebrating the twentieth anniversary of Rayman 3, showcasing the incredible talent within our community and awarding deserving winners with shiny prizes. The past year also saw the opening of our new Russian-speaking forums, as well as RayWiki joining forces with the Gaming Wiki Network, a network of independently-hosted gaming wikis. Pirate-Community remains a vibrant hub where fans from around the world come together to celebrate their shared passion. The dedication of our members and the tireless efforts of our staff have ensured that this place remains a haven for discussions, discoveries, and delightful interactions.

In terms of statistics, the numbers tell a story of our community's vitality. Over the past year, 8,575 messages were posted on our forum, contributing to a grand total of 1,371,471 messages. RayWiki continues to stand as the ultimate Rayman knowledge hub, with 128 new articles added this year, bringing the total count to an impressive 6,105 across 8 languages.

As we mark this twenty-year milestone, we extend our deepest gratitude to each and every member of our community. Your unwavering support, passion, and camaraderie have made Pirate-Community a place like no other. With the Rayman series holding a special place in our hearts, and with the future holding endless possibilities, we look forward to another twenty years of discovery, discussion, and celebration.

Long live Rayman, and long live Pirate-Community! Cheers to the incredible journey that brought us here, and to the exciting adventures that lie ahead.

The upcoming Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope DLC featuring Rayman will be published on August 30 under the name Rayman in the Phantom Show.
Rayman is back in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope downloadable content “Rayman in the Phantom Show,” launching on August 30 exclusively on Nintendo Switch. In this third and final downloadable content, Rayman will team up with Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Peach as they face the Phantom, a towering, musically inclined enemy previously featured in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.

In this new adventure, separate from the main game’s story, the Phantom now works as a studio director at the dramatic Space Opera Network, an uncanny TV studio filled with Easter eggs and props. As the studio’s TV ratings hit a new low, the Phantom needs the help of true stars that can help him return to his former glory.

Players will control Rayman, Rabbid Peach, and Rabbid Mario as they explore brand-new levels with vertical exploration on a variety of TV studio sets. Rayman can use his haircopter ability to bring his fellow Heroes with him as he jumps. Leverage the full power of Rayman’s arsenal, from his aerial traversal skills to his plunger blaster, to open up new tactical possibilities during battles.

Actor David Gasman reprises his role as Rayman for this downloadable content, with an original soundtrack composed by Christophe Heral (Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends) and Grant Kirkhope.
A new trailer was published alongside the announcement:
