Re: Rayman 1
Yeah it is. But there are several odd things about how the game handles it:

1. The game save has two special flags for the level which it saves, something which is very unusual. Usually the game just does this for if you've beaten a boss. There's a flag which gets set when you "accept" the mission from Joe (when the image of Joe giving Rayman the firefly appears) and then another flag when you "complete" the mission by hitting the switch. Neither of these flags are necessary since you can't leave the level once you enter it, so why does the game save them?
Now let's see how the game uses them. In the function DETER_WORLD_AND_LEVEL which sets the level to load, the game does this:
DETER_WORLD_AND_LEVEL.png
"finBosslevel[1] & 2" is the flag for if you've accepted the mission. So what it's doing is this:
If you're trying to load Eat at Joe's 1 and have already accepted the mission then the game loads Eat at Joe's 2 instead and also gives you the firefly ("RayEvts[1] = RayEvts[1] | 4").
If you're trying to load Eat at Joe's 2 in the demo mode then the game gives you the firefly only if you've accepted the mission. Why would that check need to be there? Probably a leftover from how the code used to be structured. To make up for this the function InitDemoJeu actually sets the flag saying you've accepted the mission (along with one other flag):
InitDemoJeu.png
2. Now what about the second flag I mentioned? Yep the game does indeed save when you hit the plug:
DO_POING_COLLISION.png
What is this used for? Well this determines several things. First it determines if the UFO objects should move when Rayman lands on them. So if you managed to get to the next map without hitting the plug then none of the UFO objects would move! It also determines if Joe should spawn in the last map, the beach one. If you get there without hitting the plug then Joe isn't there. Obviously both of these scenarios are impossible in the final game, yet the game has checks for them.

3. Eat at Joe's 5 and 7 use the same maps:
Image
Image
This is probably nothing new, and makes sense from a story perspective. But you won't really notice this when playing the level. So why go through all this trouble of making them the same? Maybe they were originally one map? If say the UFO has been there in map 5 and it wouldn't function because you hadn't hit the plug yet then that'd make sense. You'd then enter a side-level, the one with the plug, and return here afterwards. Then it also makes sense why map 4 loops back to the start since you go back the way you came.

Now it's also worth mentioning the game does something sort of similar with the super-helicopter potion. You actually have to help the Musician for any of them to spawn. So if you went to Pencil Pentathlon without helping him then the potion wouldn't spawn!

Setting that as the version in RCP seems to almost-but-not-quite work - the stdout.txt file in the TPLS folder records a "Activating custom Rayman soundtrack" whereas it didn't do that when the RCP version was set to auto... but it still seems to be stuck using the PC soundtrack rather than the PS1 soundtrack.
Just to double check, did you try all three 1.12 versions in RCP? When I was going through the known versions of the game for this I found 3 different versions of 1.12, so it can be any of them used here.

Yeah, the file that came with the GOG install is 419 kB, whereas the one in the Rayman DX+ download is 906 kB, so that struck me as a notable difference, although I don't know if it's necessarily significant.

We've been seeing rainy days lately. From early in the morning to late afternoon.

Re: Rayman 1
I felt like the premise is that Joe is asking Rayman to go into the caves and reconnect the power, Rayman does so, then retraces his steps and goes back to Joe.

Re: How's the weather?
It's been getting warmer lately but stil raining a lot, and it's been pretty windy the past few days too.

Hi guys!

Tonight we've successfully upgraded all of the software used by the forum and wiki as well as moved to a brand new server, with a much more recent configuration! This took a bit of time and lot of work but it seems to have gone smoothly.

While the new version of the forum was well tested and should work just fine, we're pretty much discovering the new version of the wiki at the same time as you and we're well aware of the few cosmetic issues that have appeared following the update. They shouldn't prevent its use and we'll be sure to fix them in the next few days!

Please note that from now on, there will be no need to log in to the forum and wiki separately, as our new single sign-on system will automatically log you in to the wiki if you're authenticated on the forum. We've also extended SSL usage to all of our subdomains, and that's probably about it for noticeable feature changes! While there are major differences under the hood between this version and the previous one, the goal is that it shouldn't be too different from the one you're used to. ;)

Of course, if you notice anything strange please let me know and I'll get to it ASAP.

Today is the fifteenth birthday of Pirate-Community. For over a decade and a half now, we have strived to make this place the best we can for Rayman fans, and while there's always room for improvement, we have a lot to be proud of!

While the past year may have been the emptiest so far in terms of Rayman news, there's still a lot to say about the old games in the series, and in fact the forum saw a significant increase in activity at the beginning of this year. Over the last twelve months, 66,538 messages were posted, leading us to a grand total of 1,280,374. That's 7,834 more than the previous year, and while it's still less than we did eleven years ago in 2006/2007, this was without a record day (taking place this Saturday) and with a relatively recent activity bump, so we have many reasons to be optimistic about next year.

RayWiki, indisputably the number one source of Rayman knowledge, now features 5,166 articles in seven languages, an increase of 382 since last year. That's more than one content article a day, and I'd like to thank our contributors for this amazing work.

RayTunes is still the music behemoth we all love, with over 20 GB of high-quality music that our members now enjoy listening to directly on the forum.

And while no major features have been released lately, we're still working hard on software updates and upcoming improvements.

Thank you for your continued support, long live Rayman, long live Pirate-Community!

I'm pleased to announce a new Rayman contest named "Riddles of the Glade"! In this contest, competitors try to solve clues that reference to a character/object/place from the Rayman series to win prizes.

Head on over to the thread to learn more and compete.

Good luck!

Fourteen years ago, Pirate-Community was created with the goal of bettering and consolidating a Rayman community in very bad shape. It goes without saying that no one expected such a success, let alone the community to still be around after all this time.

Rayman news are scarce these days, and with the only events last year being the announcement of yet another port (Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition) and that of a new title in a now separate series (Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle), it is safe to say that nothing happened in Rayman's world.

The forum is the first to suffer from such a dearth of news, and the 58,704 messages posted last year, for a total of 1,213,836, are the lowest figure since 2005/2006, setting us back to activity levels from over a decade ago. Thankfully, there's a lot more to it, and last year the forum saw a major update with everything being rewritten from scratch and dozens of new features and various improvements being added. A new staff was also elected, the modding and utilities subforum was created, and lots of new contests and various activities were launched.

Last year also saw RayTunes's biggest update since its creation, with a brand new website, an integrated player, the possibility to embed songs on the forum, and plenty of new tracks, among other things. It was a good year for RayWiki too, which now contains 4,784 articles in seven languages, an improvement of 305 over last year.

So, as you've figured out already, there's still a lot going on around here, and this is isn't going to change anytime soon.

Long live Rayman, long live Pirate-Community!

As some members may be aware, Photobucket no longer allows for free hosting of images on third party sites. As such, any signatures or other embedded images that were uploaded to Photobucket will not display on the forums, instead a watermark will take their place.

Members are recommended to migrate to another image host, or use RPC's attachment upload where possible.

RayTunes, our Rayman music archive, has just received its biggest upgrade ever! Apart from its new modern design, RayTunes 5.0 allows you to play every song in the collection on the website itself.
However, the content update is even bigger. Three completely new soundtracks (including the educative games) have been added and many soundtracks have received extra tracks. On top of that, every single soundtrack now has new or improved album art, better track names and tags. An MP3 archive is finally available for each one, as well as a FLAC archive for most.
More detailed info about the update can be found here. Enjoy!

Hi all,

I am happy to announce the return of our Rayman-themed contest, Manipulate the Image!

The goal is simple: take the Rayman-related graphic chosen by the contest's previous winner and modify it to make something amusing. You can essentially modify it any way you want, so don't be shy!
The current season is number 61, and the image to manipulate is Helico Ray. Entries can be submitted up to 9 June. The winner will receive Tings and the right to choose the image to be manipulated in Season 62!

Good luck to all!
