Custom code was used so rarely that it's not a problem? Uh-oh.
Also: 4KiB you say... that's 1024 MIPS instructions WITHOUT ANY BRANCHES NOR MULTIPLICATION?! That sounds sad. Really sad.
Without LIKELY branches. You have "regular" branches and "likely" branches on the MIPS. Likely branches are ...

Re: Rayman PSP Homebrew
Back to N64 discussion, I suppose that even music could be done well if you didn't push much into graphics department. And on the point of graphics department... uh oh, looking at its Wikipedia specification (microcode replacements for every game that wanted it...) it must be hard to emulate ...

Re: Rayman Deluxe
I'm not sure how much this helps, but the music in the Jaguar version is an EXTREMELY simplified tracker format using standard MIDI instruments (except for two). What I know so far...

Screenie of Level 7, where you encounter the hoodlums for the first time... ALL AT ONCE!

Thanks for the update!
I wish my mapping skills were better... are there any restrictions you want people to observe when making suggestions about new levels?

Re: Unlocking Rayman 1 (PC Version)
SNDD8B.DAT is clearly sound-data-8-bit, so I'd guess SNDH8B.DAT is sound-headers-8-bit. It probably has maps for which sounds go to which characters, among other things.
I've got the PSX version, but I should get the PC version if I want to help.

Re: Rayman PSP Homebrew
But I guess the music type would be the same, but the graphics improved when comparing to the Jaguar no?
Depends on how much work was put into it. It could be superior to the Jaguar in all respects, or it could be virtually the same if not as much work was put into it. It's that way for most ...

Could the N64 really handle Rayman 1? I imagine that the backgrounds would have to be compressed into oblivion. And so would the music.
I think the result would be something quite similar to the Atari Jaguar version.

Re: Rayman PSP Homebrew
you can hope that the underlying interfaces are the same (say, SDL), or you can port the interfaces (make an N64 version of oslib), or you can tear it all out and replace it with something entirely new. That's also what I expected. But it still do require a lot of work. :)

That new sky texture looks REALLY good. The level 1 MIDI seems to fit the mood the graphics create, so it's good until you get something better.

Re: Rayman PSP Homebrew
What a bizarre turn of events! And I was looking forward to a user-supported version to the PSP... which could then also be ported to the N64 as well.
I suppose the rest of us can continue on without Equilibrium369, but his work was so good. I'm sorry he felt it was a waste to work on this.

Subversion would probably be better for some folks. It's used more, so I think more people have learned how to use it. Git and Hg aren't very mainstream, so most folks never bother to learn either.
