Re: Michel Ancel decided to stop making video games

Some of Michel's new responses from Instagram, worth a read: Jade investigation : Libération Article part 1 ma-0.png Jade: Mr Ancel , you said the journalist used informations from jealous people full of rage , this is a serious allegation. Michel Ancel: There is a group of veterans developpers at U...

Re: Michel Ancel decided to stop making video games

Cancel culture sucks. I believe that Michel Ancel was hard to work with -- from all the other information I've heard from devs, I have known this to be true for quite a while. But after reading the article, Michel's response and with various information I've heard throughout the years I will conclud...

Re: Rayman 2

Interesting! I don't think they are used anywhere - but for some reason they are present in the "fix" (always loaded) textures in the Dreamcast version (but not in the 3DS port). Looks like at some point they were supposed to appear in a lot of levels.

Re: Rayman 3

To be fair, OpenSpace's lighting can be pretty difficult to recreate. It has a ton of weird light types that I haven't seen used in many engines (then again, I'm not familiar with that many engines). Lights in OpenSpace aren't designed to be realistic light simulations, but are instead art tools: Fo...

Re: If Tily had indeed never existed…

None of the character themes really sound similar to the Rayman 2 themes. A Rayman M Ly theme would probably have some elements that the composer put into the Tily theme, but I guess with less high-pitched instruments and a more mystical vibe. I think themes like Rise and Shrine or Spellbound Forest...

Re: Anime

Another good thing about the anime is that it shows many things that were skipped in the manga. I still read the One Piece manga, but I have mixed feelings about it, some weeks I like it and others I feel like dropping the series. I agree about the anime... though I think lately the manga has been ...

Re: What games are you currently playing?

Hoodlums' Revenge just isn't very good, which is sad because Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs (GBA game made by the same company in the same engine) was one of the better games on the system IMO.

Re: Anime

The One Piece anime is great despite the many (valid) complaints about the pacing. I read the manga and am still consistently having fun watching the anime -- it's just super fun hearing the characters speak, and the music is often really good.

Re: Rayman 2

I agree that the bottom left looks the best for most of these examples. Already everything looks much better in perspective view - especially Jano. :) Personally I would still not try to go for the isometric-like viewpoint for anything though, even in perspective view. I think the examples with the ...

Re: Rayman 2

tl;dr I think it would be better to keep these images in the articles as additional images, but restore the old non-transparent main images. I disagree. The main picture of an article should describe the object. The model of the object is the purest form of art, as the artist envisioned it. I think...

Re: Rayman 2

For instance, while a frontal view (or something close to it) might resemble more what you actually see in-game, a great part of some models might get lost then, e.g. in case of the mechanical fish in Rayman 3 you wouldn't be able to see its whole structure, the brown metal body, nor the propeller ...

Re: Rayman 2

Ah ok, thanks for the information! :) I'll add a picture of the pink caterpillar to RayWiki later on. Nice! I saw you added the picture. You've been doing a lot of work with taking transparent pictures of everything, so I hope this doesn't make you feel bad or anything, but I have to say these orth...

Re: Rayman 2

I've actually never played any other version than PC, so I didn't even know about the ones in your picture. :P Still, the one I posted looks different, ... and more friendly. As for the other thing in the Prison Ship, I forgot to mention that changing the state of certain objects, can change these ...

Re: Rayman 3

The main reason why I assumed it to be a Hoover is because GOT4N called the creature in his video like that, and it appears to be the same creature as the one I provided a screenshot of. After all, both look basically the same (except that Got4Ns' is a bit glitched), use the same texture, and both ...

Re: Rayman 2

Hey RPC! :) Last night, I discovered text from an old version of Rayman 2 in an OpenSpace hobby project that a developer who worked on Donald Duck: Quack Attack sent us years ago. It used a different type of encryption than other games that we only implemented into Raymap now, so this is the first t...

Re: Rayman 1

Also a result of our work on Ray1map was that I extracted the music sequences from the Jaguar version. Like most stuff on Jaguar it's a completely unknown format, so it was a fun little side project to convert these into MIDI. The samples are mostly software-based synth, so instead of creating a sou...

I just had a look as well - seems like this is Rayman Junior UK level 1, without music and with some Rayman goodies instead: the Raymanometer, an Antitoon screensaver, a Rayman Advance trailer and 3 wallpapers.

Re: Rayman 2

Robin is the co-developer of Raymap and also just a really cool guy. The content he posts on his channel is also really interesting - I especially recommend checking out his GLM explanation video. Lately we've been working on adding Rayman 2 PS1 support to Raymap which has led to multiple findings l...
