Re: Some great stuff for the 20th anniversary (?)

Am I the only one here that enjoys all of the main Rayman games almost equally, minus Legends?

Also, isn't 3D Rayman considered AAA? I thought the 3D Rayman games always took a lot of funding and development, and in return, earned Ubisoft lots of money. AAA just means 'high budget', and while it's ...

Guess my eye didn't catch that haha

It's there, 3 times in fact since there are 3 versions of the same song.

Re: Rayman 2

I have to agree that the Dreamcast version is the superior version of The Great Escape.

Yeah, there's a handful of parts that are bothersome to play because of the dark shading engine, but it never truly effected my playthrough, and it made the colors more defined (Except when it was pitch black ...

Re: Rayman 1

Yeah, you're probably right.

Speaking of music similarities though, a lot of Origins' tracks have super similar start-ups to Raving Rabbids music. Like, super duper similar.

Example: RRR - Welcome to the West = RO - Tricky Treasure.

Re: Rayman 1

Was listening to some good ol' Rayman music when I noticed something, not sure if anyone's noticed this before but...

https://youtu.be/dVSuYCGwUf0?t=50m18s (50 minutes and 18 seconds in)

Doesn't the flute from the Bonus track 'The Angry Bird' in Origins sound a bit familiar?

Re: Rayman Legends

I guess you could stretch out an explanation of Band Land to Toad Story (I really hope we didn't lose Band Land since it's one of my favorite Rayman locations), and it's pretty drastic for a barren wasteland like Band Land to turn into such a lush swamp in only 100 years (Then again this is Rayman ...

Re: Rayman Legends

I can see why the music would lead to that kind of assumption, but I don't see how Band Land could turn into a swamp in only 100 years time. Gourmand Land would also have to change from ice caps to a desert for The Fiesta of the Dead.

That theory makes sense for Teensies in Trouble and 20k Lums ...

Re: Rayman 2

I only prefer the open-area version of the final boss because the PS1 version was incredibly predictable and easy. I also kinda prefer the PS1 version at the same time because you can take a hit.

Really I'm not a big fan of either haha, they were good fights and all but I like it when the final ...

Re: Rayman Legends

Actual flaws with Rayman 1:

-Save system (Some levels are stupid long)
-Power Ups (Hanging wtf?)
-Charge up awareness (Is my fist fully powered or nah?)
-Tings don't really do much at all, not really a criticism but more of an annoyance

Getting back to the topic though, here's a theory of ...

Re: Rayman Legends

Basically, you're describing a hard game, not a cheap one.

Also, I can't remember any free fall areas that were cheap. I remember free fall areas with a trail of Tings that lead to a boss arena underneath.

The level design in Rayman didn't have flow because Rayman is a game about exploration ...

Re: Rayman Origins

I never said Rayman 1 didn't run at 60fps. I just said Rayman Origins has clear, 60fps animations (Which could have been worded better). Rayman 1 also has it but I wouldn't call Rayman 1's animation the same as Origins', since Origins uses hand drawn animation, like from a cartoon, while Rayman was ...

Re: Rayman Legends

I never was locked away from a collectable in Rayman though. Rayman 1 was hard but I wouldn't call it cheap. It sure as hell didn't hold your hand but that doesn't make it cheap. Cheap would be if there were moments when you can't see where you land or when you can't kill an enemy without getting ...

Re: Rayman Legends

One thing I don't like about the recent DKC games is how many 'one chance' sections there are, where you come across a very fast area of the game and if you don't understand and execute it perfectly, you will hit a checkpoint immediately after missing it and have to restart the level.

It's cheap ...

Re: Rayman Origins

Animation at 60fps is a lot better than 30fps animation? Thought that was obvious.

Rayman 1 in 1995 was not able to render High Definition art, so to compensate, they used a more bold art style. That art style is beginning to look like plastic.

Rayman Origins doesn't have limitations outside of ...

Re: Rayman Origins

Origins is literally a living cartoon though. No pre-rendered graphics, no limitations, just high definition animation at 60fps.

Rayman 1 used an art style that was possible for that time, which made it look really 'plastic', probably due to the layering and resolution limits of 1995.

Re: Rayman Legends

To be fair, Jungle levels, Sky levels and Water levels are in almost every platforming game, but I get what you mean.

Rayman always differentiates itself with it's literally fantastic worlds. Band Land, Picture City, Candy Chateau, Bog of Murk, Desert of the Knaaren, Land of the Livid Dead, The ...

Re: Rayman Origins

As pretty as Rayman 1 is, it's age is showing. Something I don't think will happen with Origins due to it's more 'organic' style.
