But you're right both stories share the idea that Rayman has been created by the nymphs to fight the evil.

Conjured from the magnificent moonbeams of the second summer solstice, woven together by us, the nymphs

moonbeams not lums. That's why I don't count the trailer as canon.
Plus I prefer to think that Rayman was created with his Rayman 1 design.
