I zoom in on the track and play it. Whenever I encounter a silence (yes, using my eyes and ears) I stop/pause the track look back and remove the silence.

I use it everyday. To rip samples from Rayman track for remixes. It just lacks some effects. You can write them yourself but I'm not familiar with programming the language they use. And I'm not really interested in that language either. Just makes sure you download the plugins too if you need effect...
