What do you think of Rayman: The Animated Series?

Post by Alexinator »

I thought it was boring and riddled with plot holes. They shouldn't have put a brand new cast in it and made it completely different from the games.

We don't know that. Early versions of the Rayman 2 storyline apparently involved an intergalactic circus, and we don't really know what was going to happen in the nine scrapped episodes. There could have been interesting tie-ins planned.

Like Plum said, that would have been interesting to see what was the tie-ins planned and also, what happened to Rigatoni.

I probably won't get an answer but I might email the producers and see if I can get information on the plot

what happened to Rigatoni.
Given that his lackey, Razorbeard, is aggressive and threatening in the game he appeared in, Rayman 2. I assume he got rid of Rigatoni.

When the circus crash landed, he was reprimanded for his failure. He then got fired by Rigatoni, and Rigatoni insultingly added that he would be better off at the scrapyard.
Razor snapped, and then he did what only I could imagine.

He killed his master out of anger and vengeance.

This is of course a theory. While we should not judge the book by it's cover, but I doubt he'd hesitate to get personal with someone on that level.
He's not only short-tempered, his threats may also indicate that he's violent as well.

Ah yes, that was me. And it seemed plausible. I wonder if the credibility still holds up.

Razorbeard seems a lot less threatening in the series imo. Kinda cowardly. I think the cartoon was trying to change his personality to fit the role of Rigatoni's lackey.

As for my opinion on the series itself, I like the look of the world. The settings fit well within a Rayman 2 aesthetic, and Rayman's walk cycle looks like it was ripped straight from the game. But the inclusion of a whole new cast was pretty unnecessary. I feel like it would have been a smarter decision to include the game's characters instead (Globox in place of Lac Mac, Ly for Betina, Murphy for Flips, mabye grand minimus for Cookie). I would have changed the story to where Rayman's friends got kidnapped and put in the circus, and Rayman would have to help them escape.

Yeah, the new cast does seem a bit arbitrary, but then, again, we have no idea what would have happened with them in later episodes. Maybe those other characters were going to turn up by the end of it. Maybe they were going to make cameos…

I never did watch it but people seem to say that it used very low quality textures and complained about the voice actors.

I liked it, I thought that it was quite entertaining and the visuals were pretty good for the time. It had many flaws, but it was good enough in my opinion. Too bad it never reached its full potential due to the fact the series ended too soon.
Though, it's been many years since I watched it, so my opinion might change when I'll watch it again.

I understand the voice actors were better in French than English.
I actually have the German version on videotape funnily enough, but all my attempts to digitize it have been dogged with audio-sync issues. I think Cairnie put 'em all on YouTube anyway. :P

I watched it all through youtube, but I'd love to get my hands on a DVD of it someday (assuming it wasn't just a VHS release).
I really wonder if more information will come into light about the cancelled episodes in the future. Couldn't that be considered lost media?

Yeah, it had a DVD (I have it), but it was exclusive to France if I'm not mistaking.
