That happens if and only if you play the game constantly without turning it off.
Well that explains it because I've had the game on for crazy hours a few times
When you (and I literally just did and feel stupid) keep failing the part at Whale Bay that's like space invaders on Revolution lots of times and think it's so impossible then after about 4 attempts find out you can jump
Oh God that section on the shell took me about half an hour. I just kept falling at the part where you walk over the Lava on a thin surface until I eventually realised you had to just turn a bit late.

As a consolation, the level is clearly unfinished: if you do get behind the Knaaren you teleport back to the beginning, meaning the devs meant to do something else there. Also the score required for 100% suggests they intended to have a secret room somewhere in the level.
was rather anoying, but hey i could practise all of the levels before in those years
That's actually cool. The only glitch I've seen happen for me is a couple of times on the Xbox version, he flew up in the air by himself when I landed near the edge of a platform without even pressing the look mode button or jump. The other is on TLOLD all versions of the game I tried, where people done the super jump but instead I ended up falling under the water and he keeps falling infinitely until you let go of the look mode button. He also doesn't run out of breath and you end up very far under the map. I assume everyone here already figured that one out though.
