Rayman 2: The Alternate Side DEMO
Credit to Raymanni for the logo!
Rayman 2: The Alternate Side is a 2D Platformer fan game created by Ray502. It is the sequel to Rayman: Razorbeard's Vengeance.
Story: Not too long ago, Rayman defeated Razorbeard and Bad Rayman, putting all of the world's energy and it's peaceful surroundings back to where it was. Although, there's a new enemy, threatening to tear apart the happiness of the world. On a what seems like a quiet day in Rayman's world, the enemy summoned a storm's elements and combined them with his/her power to make Rayman's close friends become mindless slaves to labor at his/her unknown lair. The enemy gathered up old foes, to capture everyone to labor hard at the lair. The worlds turned dark, like an alternate world effect. By the passing hours, more and more creatures turn evil. There's no hope. But, the limbless hero has put on those shoes, and is setting his eyes on freeing his friends, and to save his world.

Re: Rayman 2: The Alternate Side
I can't actually download the file... The 20 seconds wainting counter isn't going down and I deifnitely wouldn't want to make a 4shared account just for this.

Re: Rayman 2: The Alternate Side DEMO
It looks really nice, but the Windows 10 lags are still here.
It would be awesome if you could find a fix to those lags.

Awesome! I really like it so far and it runs fine on my Windows 10 computer. I'm not totally sure how to exit the shop though, since the only way I found was to quit and restart the game.

You crawl by holding the jump button, like in the PC version of the original game.Master wrote:Same here, also was unable to crawl.Carrot-master wrote:Awesome! Since it uses the same engine as last time, I still also have the same problems too. Anyway I will try it out it on my other pc where it should work.Harpic fraîcheur wrote:It looks really nice, but the Windows 10 lags are still here.

Re: Rayman 2: The Alternate Side DEMO
The controls have been added to the first post. There was some talk I had with a member to convert the game engine to Gamemaker Studio, through the process of cleaning up some unnecessary coding. But as of right now, I haven't gotten a reply back on the progress. As for the lagging, I did some cleaning up on the coding myself, but there's so many variables that go into this type of game, to where it's really tough to find some where I can delete. This is the only game engine that I was given to, and to start a new one from scratch would take a heck of a lot of time. The levels in this game will have to be shorter than most of Razorbeard's Vengeance to attempt to not give any lag while playing in the level, cause the more tiles there are, the better chance lag will appear.
If anyone decides to record gameplay, adjust your Bandicam or other recording settings to lower quality and kbps. This will cause less lagging.

Re: Rayman 2: The Alternate Side DEMO
I think it's a nice idea to have short but sweet levels, cause Razorbeard's Vengeance had a lot of emptyness and running for long distances, which kinda ruined some parts of the levels.
I also managed to play the demo on my laptop and compiled a list of weird stuff that I found:
-When I play a game that has a retro look or a low resolution like this one, I like to see my pixels sharp and crisp. But the whole game is blurred all of the time and there's nothing you can do about it. I think it should be possible to change that in the options or a config file.
-When I started the game, the default character I played as was Tarayzan. Shouldn't it be Rayman?
-For some reason I couldn't always kill the shooting Hoodlums and when I actually could get a random hit in, the enemy dublicated! What's up with that?
-Then there are some little minor graphical things that bug me. For example the blue arrow in the pause menu doesn't always actually point straight at the current selection and is just a bit off overall. Also, why is the powerup canister countdown thingy in the middle of the screen? It would look a lot better if it was in the corner like in Razorbeard's Vengeance. Then there are also the flying birds and Hoodlum balloons which look, truth to be told, rather jerky. If you could at least animate the birds and remove the tiny Hoodlum that floats in front of the balloon that'd be a great improvement.
Those are just some things that I noticed, but there are also some things that I actually liked very much.
The overall feeling and gameplay is alright and I really like the world ideas so far. The orange-ish bandland also looked rather nice. It reminded me of autumn!
I must also say: When I first saw Razorbeard's Vengeance, I wasn't really impressed by the usage of the R2 textures, but this time you have really stepped up your game. They are still kinda blocky, that's true, but the "Land of the Livid dead" and the swamp levels actually looked really pretty. More grass and more nice details and it should look even better!
Keep it up!

Re: Rayman 2: The Alternate Side DEMO
There should've been a config file that was in the zip. You are able to adjust the full-screen resolution in the config.Raymanni wrote:-When I play a game that has a retro look or a low resolution like this one, I like to see my pixels sharp and crisp. Interesting. You can change the character you play in the main menu. Go to options, then to character, then move the arrow left or right to change the character. Select apply when you have made that change.Raymanni wrote:-When I started the game, the default character I played as was Tarayzan. Shouldn't it be Rayman?
Ah yes, that was a rushed last minute addition to attempt for the Hoodlums to die with the gold fist in one hit. I got the coding mixed up between that and being hit from the standard fist. Thanks for noticing that.Raymanni wrote:-For some reason I couldn't always kill the shooting Hoodlums and when I actually could get a random hit in, the enemy dublicated! What's up with that?
For the colored ting counter to be at the bottom left.Raymanni wrote:Also, why is the powerup canister countdown thingy in the middle of the screen?
The horizontal speed explains that. An easy fix.Raymanni wrote:Then there are also the flying birds and Hoodlum balloons which look, truth to be told, rather jerky.
I appreciate the feedback. It's fairly tough for one person to design the levels, add objects/sprites, etc. I'm considering hiring someone that's interested in co-designing the levels with me. This will be added to the first post. So if anyone is interested, just send me a PM!

Re: Rayman 2: The Alternate Side DEMO
Not yet but Ray will probably realize a trailer of the game like he did with Razorbeard's revenge.

Oh yes. I just didn't see that before.Ray502 wrote:There should've been a config file that was in the zip. You are able to adjust the full-screen resolution in the config.
I figured that out, but the default character still shouldn't be Tarayzan.Ray502 wrote:Interesting. You can change the character you play in the main menu. Go to options, then to character, then move the arrow left or right to change the character. Select apply when you have made that change.

@MagicalPlatypus: OCG is the guy who promotes my fangames. I have asked him to upload a promo of the game. It will be on Youtube hopefully in the next few days.
@Raymanni: That was very strange that Tarayzan was the default character. I'll look to see how that happened.
Stay tuned for photos.

Re: Rayman 2: The Alternate Side DEMO
2shared doesn't work anymore for some odd reason. It is most likely due to that 4shared is much more modern and has more features than 2shared, so it got shut down. I will update the download link for Vengeance soon.
