Rayman 2 Revolution - Exclusive & other songs remastered

Post by deton24 » Thu May 21, 2015 9:04 pm

OUTDATED!
See here for remastered Revolution and other 44kHz songs:
viewtopic.php?f=66&t=13147&p=1053209#p1120101

and original PSX' TGE 44kHz OST:

Hi! Question is, which version of rip is better in matter of sound quality.
"Copy" link leads to option of listening several tracks, like on RayTunes it is.
1. Dreamcast rip: https://copy.com/cYMU4gUf7ZXYifeU
or
2. Play Station 2 rip: http://raytunes.raymanpc.com/#r2
(untouched original versions)

Sorry for harassing you again. That's because I thinking about new project - making new R2 soundtrack from separate Rip versions for achieving the best possible quality of every several track during remastering processings. As you propably know, not every version contains all music as in Revolution it is, and PSX version sounds the best (avaible for download in signature), but it's most incomplete comparing to other versions.
You know, putting this all things reminds me sweeping desert sometimes.

Greetings.

Re: VOTE-Rayman 2 Soundtrack - Versions DC vs PS2 Rip Comparison

Post by Droolie » Sun May 24, 2015 7:59 pm

Hey there! The link to the Dreamcast version doesn't seem to work, perhaps it has been taken down?

In any case, the rip currently on RayTunes is a rip of the Dreamcast version (combined with the extra tracks from the PS2 version), so I don't see why you would compare a rip of the Dreamcast version with another rip of the Dreamcast version. :)

Hey people. I found something unusual. Listen to Revolution Rip by Droolie on RayTunes Page,
and download free trial of "Audio & Music Lab 2016 Premium"
and import music, then choose Mastering->Brilliance
(turn High Quality in premium)
and then... you'll be shocked. You may restore 44kHz frequencies "CD quality" by a simple knob!
I can't believe how it's possible. Result is unbelievable. It's very good software. Not as my all previous methods.
Files sounds now very similar to original CD equivalents from my previous Rip in signature. But these are complete!
Ofcourse, there will be some shortcomings, noise to hide with three knobs more:
cleaning->declicker, dehisser and declipper (watch out for this declipper, gives good support in filtering hiss, sometimes allows gain crystalizer higher, but usually distorts sound, as well as you sometimes exaggerate previous filters, so I don't use it to often)
and it's also possible to use EQ there. Check also auto-mastering presets a.k.a. mastering->sound cloner-cloner, and Stereo FX.

On Premium version note also option "brighten internet sources". It's also great.

For now grab some samples:
(it's from old version - non premium -
for better ones see in next posts)
Pirates on Patrol
original
http://raytunes.raymanpc.com/music/R2/0 ... eprise.mp3
http://raytunes.raymanpc.com/music/R2/0 ... Patrol.mp3
Remastered

https://copy.com/xqGuSRTIEfiNOuMl

During remastering I found that RR - PS2 - FLAC version is better for this purposes than line-in DC rip, and still better than PC rip.
But for the best quality, get original Dreamcast soundtrack files.

New leader of remastering of old music for casuals is now Audio & Music Lab 2016 Premium
(now called SOUND FORGE AUDIO CLEANING LAB [maybe also Izotope RX will be good for this purpose, didn't test it])

Recently Magix published trial of their most advanced tool for refreshing heavily compressed audio files.
I tested it with pleasure, and verdict is that it is unexpectly excellent software. It's sounds a lot better now!

It is a new progress on a way of restoring music.
Rules of using software haven't changed. The most significant difference is addition of costumizing settings for every plugin which we can use.
Thanks to new options for Brilliance plugin, we can choose new High Quality filter which restores even more lost data. In comparison to previous discussed software, there is a huge difference. I was suprised even then. Results are amazing (still not final files):
Tracklist:

Code: Select all

Canopy Prelude
Meanwile on Prison Ship
Grolem fight
Woods of Light Reprise
Pirates on Patrol
Pirates on Patrol Reprise
Prologue
Minisarious Plains
https://copy.com/AsIIjhPsum3oU6aQ
Bonus. Splinter Cell Pandora Tommorow - Jerusalem Discovered
Press ctrl+V if loading on page stucks

Magix Audio & Music Lab 2016 Premium troubleshooting
For 22kHz FLAC and very high bitrate files (256 bad quality mp3 worked fine with High Quality Brilliance):
Attention. Lost of working of High Quality Brilliance. I can't restore quality on every project after installing new system. I must use old project and drag and drop new file there, then briliance works correct.
I give my project files for interested people. Contains lots presets which some can fits to your files. Especially 22kHz.
https://yadi.sk/d/wouyhjvnu9r26
But you must unpack Droolie Flac files:
http://hosting.raymanpc.com/raytunes/mu ... 20FLAC.zip
to [F:\r2 ps2 flac] location
Otherwise, briliance doesn't work if object of my project which Rayman 2, won't load.
Other thing, sometimes it's good to high quality resample to enhance effect by program via option in right click on object.
edit. Currently it just enough to drag and drop Droolies mp3 from Raytunes to project, enable High Quality Brilliance + maybe soft, and then brilliance works correctly with these flac. No need to put files in location. But do not delete 1st file in project then.

There also exists a bug which forces only 22kHz processing when 22kHz file is used as the first in project.
Usually it depends on 22kHz auto setting in playback setting ("P" key). Normally it suppose to be set on 44kHz.
If you have 22kHz, and setting above gives speed up sound, restart the program.
If still the same, try to resample the file to 44kHz, and add it as the first file.

Original used R2 files - flacs from here:
http://raytunes.raymanpc.com/
Thanks to that Droolie uploaded files as a FlACs, I could restore more of lost quality. Thank you.
Regards!

Here you can listen and download mix of selected remastered files with PSX version files. The most complete option, just to play and listen everything in HQ one by one. When you click on this link, you can just push the button "download all" there.

Final version of soundtrack for now.
