I wonder what's actually left to improve besides a couple things in the Space Mama fight...

By the way, I finally got to watch the PlayStation TAS for this game and it's really interesting, maybe all the more since there's so many strats that are completely impossible for human players. Here's the video for those interested:

I have so many questions after watching this.
First of all, why look backwards when jumping?

The page on TASVideos details a lot of the weird stuff that you see on screen. In this case, you can check the "backwards jumping" section:
If you make Rayman turn around in midair, he will go in the direction he was originally facing for one more frame. Turning around in midair and then holding Up or Down on the next frame allows Rayman to move backwards. This sometimes poses a problem, as Rayman can't turn back forward in midair without losing time.
Additionally, holding L+R in midair allows Rayman to face to the left, but move to the right consistently.

Thanks for this! I recognize plumboosting from the strategies used by human runners. The text often refers a GBA run too, any details about that?

It's the
Rayman Advance TAS our own GOT4N made at the age of ten (the video is when he presented it at a French speedrunning show).

That's awesome! But why the GBA version? It doesn't seem to get many runs.

Probably because back then it was much easier to TAS than the other versions. It's all about the tools that are available to you, really.

Of course, this makes sense. This also explains why we won't see a PC TAS anytime soon.

I very much doubt it, you'll probably run into plenty of desyncs without a sandboxed environment.
