Re: SOTM #68 - Vote for next theme
Very pleasant, good feeling
I vote, knowing that my participation is not guaranteed.

Re: SOTM #68 - Vote for next theme
I went with the more pessimistic themes this round. It would make for some interesting entries and ideas.

Re: SOTM #68 - Lost Causes
Alright then people i've decided to do something about this.
The lack of people participating in these themes are ridiculous and i've essentially lost most of my faith in you trying to pick out themes that people will actually participate in. This is why i'm deciding to do one of the two things for this contest :
1. Allow only simple themes that aren't absurd as shit like this current one, things such as Rayman or the colour blue.
2. Fuck themes all together and until popularity kicks up in this contest re-introduce themes.
I'll let you guys decide on which of the two you prefer but we certainly can't leave this contest the way it's running now; as it's more than obvious people don't like the way it is now.

Re: SOTM #68 - Lost Causes
I guess number 2 for the time being. Let people just create whatever they wish.
Or, as a third option, maybe it being just freestyle, but maybe once every quarter, have a simple theme like Rayman?

Re: SOTM #68 - Lost Causes
Ah fuck. I knew there was something coming up. My apologies, especially since I suggested the damn theme.
Well look, number 2 I guess. I mean if I could, I'd make a trademarked seasonal character for every month to badger and irritate the entire forum into action, but if I don't even have time to make a simple monthly sig I doubt anyone else will.
I don't know, it should be up to forum members who've regularly participated (or regularly make sigs), but would it be an idea to give the SOTM a rest like Manipulate the Image? My instinct is that enough people are making sigs for their own enjoyment at the moment that, with a freestyle theme, the SOTM would see enough contributions to keep going. But if that's not the case, then putting it in cryosleep might be advisable.
Christ, the English in this is pretty fucking dismal, sorry.

Re: SOTM #68 - Lost Causes
Putting the contest on haitus is a possibility once I see the turn out of the freestyle contests, mostly to confirm that it is the themes that are the issue as I suspect.
Re: SOTM #68 - Lost Causes
Maybe something like a Hall of Fame in the first post would provide additional incentive to participate, I know it already lists the winners, but reading through it will make anyone's eyes bleed.
A simple table like this would be more effective:
But then have it formatted beautifully. Maybe have some point system as well, where you award the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

Code: Select all
Username # of wins
Hunchman801 10
Hunchman802 9
Hunchman803 5-

Re: SOTM #68 - Lost Causes
Yes to all the above. The 1/2/3rd rankings might make people feel there's less to lose as well, since tings = money = time.

Re: SOTM #68 - Lost Causes
Yes that sounds very nice indeed. So we should have something like every 3 months we award the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners based on how many times they've won? So if we go by your example scoreboard we could do 10 wins x 100 = 1000 tings, 9 wins x 75 = 675 tings, 5 wins x 50 = 250 tings? I believe that having such a system will not only encourage people to reach the top but for people already in first to go for more wins (for obvious more tings), and I doubt people would win that much or be here that long to get a stupid amount of reward tings.Matyuv wrote:Maybe something like a Hall of Fame in the first post would provide additional incentive to participate, I know it already lists the winners, but reading through it will make anyone's eyes bleed.

Re: SOTM #68 - Lost Causes
What bullshit. I was going to show my sig and in the process of making it, fucking Flash crashed and lost my file. Anyways, now I see nobody else entered and now I'm just agitated. Well, I didn't stay up all night drawing the sketch for nothing here you go.

Re: SOTM #68 - Lost Causes
Sounds good to me. Originally I thought that being in the top three would be prestigious enough already, but you're right that extra rewards might encourage competition and it's not an unreasonable amount of tings anyway.Serza5 wrote:So we should have something like every 3 months we award the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners based on how many times they've won? Re: SOTM #68 - Lost Causes
Right i'll start up the scoreboard system after the next one.
As for the themes, from what I gather we're all for Freestyling until activity picks up i'm assuming? Or does anyone want to try and argue for strictly simple themes only?

No theme would allow a lot of creativity, though it could be hard to judge. Best looking? Most effort? Most meaningful? At least with themes you could judge them taking relevance to the theme in mind, instead of having to compare random sigs.

Re: SOTM #68 - Lost Causes
I usually judge sigs on all of three things:
-Creativity - was the idea employed unique or does it show sign of a great spark of the mind?
-Effort - does it look sloppy-doppy or were there some hours put into it? Even if it's supposed to have a sloppy style, it's usually pretty obvious when it was just HEH LULZ ILL MAKE PIC and when some thought was put into how the compositioning was gonna be etc.
-Theme - this one is my least respected one but sometimes I'll be watching sigs on how they interact with the theme; did they take the theme and do something incredibly creative with it?
I wouldn't mind a themeless run this time. I'm planning on changing my sig incredibly soon and might enter that new one here. I say might 'cause it doesn't exactly seem appropriate. In any case, go ahead. I've been a very disloyal contendant the past couple of months...

Re: SOTM #68 - Lost Causes
Freestyle is probably the way to go for the next month's competition. I like themes though, hopefully the activity does pick up.

Re: SOTM #68 - Lost Causes
We've already one day past the deadline for this theme and all that's come up was a sketch for a theme. Shall I assume we all want to start the freestyling now?
