Re: Rayman Legends
Rayman Legends is so far the best Rayman game to date.
Still don't regret saying that when the game was released. It is indeed a technical masterpiece while the rest of the franchise hasn't dated as properly.

Origins = Legends > Rayman 3 > Rayman 1 = Rayman 2
I don't care what anyone says. Rayman 1 is heavily flawed and Rayman 2 is decent at best.

Re: Rayman Legends
Rayman 2 is pretty good, considering that it came from an era where 3d was just being explored, but it's not really what i would call a technical masterpiece. The characters were very likeable, tho.
Rayman 1... don't take me wrong, i love that game, but as much as I love it, I'm aware that it is awfully flawed. There's a difference between "hard" and "trial and error". It was pretty cheap, and the limited amount of continues made it even worse. It's also pretty hard to get into it due to it's slow pace, since it takes a long time to even learn how to run.

Re: Rayman Legends
Rayman 1: 3rd favorite game in the series for it's combat, exploration and difficulty. I also liked how tightly Rayman controlled.
Rayman 2: 4th favorite game in the series. Great platforming, but the combat and atmosphere was a major step down from Rayman 1 and it didn't feel like Rayman in 3D (Energy balls, wtf is this?). I also don't like how after getting the pointless 100% there's nothing to do at all. It's also probably the easiest in the series.
Rayman 3: Actually my favorite game of all time, even though it's not perfect by any means. I loved the combat and platforming, it actually felt like Rayman in 3D. I also loved the art style and variety in the levels, and how the levels were all seamless and in order, which made everything feel connected. It's not difficult, but fighting Hoodmongers was really fun for me so I felt that made up for it, and it probably had my favorite boss fights from any game ever.
Rayman Origins: 2nd favorite Rayman game, because of how true the art style and pacing is to Rayman. Loved getting powerups throughout the game, making it feel like a quest. I also really liked how all the worlds would connect via the Moskito levels, making the world feel more connected.
Rayman Legends: Actually my least favorite of the 5 main games. Don't get me wrong, I love the hell out of it and I think it's a much better value than Origins, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as the others. The sense of fantasy felt generic to me, the levels were all distant and unrelated, there was no order to the game, so it felt like more of an anniversary game than a sequel. I also wasn't a fan of the story, since Rayman usually has some sort of ridiculous plot, Legends was just "The magician somehow survived and multiplied himself times 5". In terms of gameplay, aside from the fantastic music levels and the dragging murphy levels, it was mostly just a re-skinned Origins with several exceptions.
I did really like how it handled purple lums though, and the replayability factor in Legends is easily the best of the series, unless you're super competitive on Rayman 3's scores / speedruns (Which very little people even care about). Legends also had some pretty kick ass bosses.
Again, this is just my opinion, and I think all the Rayman games are amazing.

Re: Rayman Legends
Sadly, I have to agree on the legends part :/
Re: Rayman Legends
After playing Legends for some time this is my list from my favourite to least favourite (don't confuse "least favourite" with "bad")
Rayman 1 > Rayman 2 > Rayman Origins > Rayman Legends > Rayman 3
Also, if you see me play Rayman Legends challanges online and doing bad, it is on purpose because a friend asked me to help him get achievement so he needs to win like 30 times against me.

Liking Origins better than Legends? And liking Legends better than 3? Damnnnn.
This is VERY very debatable. Rayman 1 did not give me a sense of trial and error, it gave me a sense of "git gud" when I died, which is great, I love challenge. I'd hate to see you play Dark Souls. Also I can understand the slow pacing part, but I'd say that's mostly subjective, I wasn't hindered by it, even if I tried to find a flaw with it. It's no different than the people who complain about Megaman 8 for being slow.Sergiomonty wrote:Rayman 1... don't take me wrong, i love that game, but as much as I love it, I'm aware that it is awfully flawed. Limited my ass, stop dying, save before entering a level constantly. R1 isn't nearly as hard as you're making it out to be. GIT GUD.Sergiomonty wrote:It was pretty cheap, and the limited amount of continues made it even worse.

Re: Rayman Legends
Yeah, this is something I see a lot of. Hard game being criticized for being hard.
Really, a game being hard is always a good thing in my book, just as long as it's fair, and I can't think of any times when Rayman was unfair. If you died, chances are it was your fault.
The hardest thing about Rayman though was finding all the cages, which is a very good thing considering the game's focus is 2D exploration. The game was difficult where it mattered most.
Rayman Advance, however, is pretty cheap since you can't always see things you need to see due to the smaller screen size of the port. Almost threw the damn thing on more than one occasion.

Re: Rayman Legends
I will tit slap you were you stand, CHR. Of course Legends doesn't have a story because that wasn't the point of the damn game. And worlds that are made from Mexican fiestas filled with Luchadors and sugar skeletons, underwater bases with spy technology, and giant beanstalks that reach into the sky felt generic? What the eff?
Rayman 1 is cheap. It's continue system is stupid, it's not beginner friendly, and its levels do cheat you with its flawed design.

Re: Rayman Legends
Well, I've mentioned before that the original intention was to have each world tell its own story, but then they decided to scrap all that for some reason…
Re: Rayman Legends
According to the dev blog, they wanted the levels and gameplay tell the story instead.

Oh my God. OhmygodmygodOHMYGOOOOD. Ubi just released this trailer:

A new 3D platformer?! Holy shit holy shit. Okay honestly, I was hoping for this but I had huge doubts it would ever happen, especially so soon after Legends. And with Razorbeard in it?! What the fuck is going on? Oh my god someone hold me I need to breathe. Should we make a new topic for this, or wait for more information?

JK THAT WAS RLY GUD 11/10
Re: Rayman Legends
I beat Rayman 1 when I was like 11 or 12. It was hard as shit, but the only time I ever recall being feeling legitimately irritated by the difficulty was Eat At Joe's. Like Rayfist said, it just requires gitting gud, and while it does ask you to git gud fairly quickly, I never felt like it was being unfair. The only way that I can see it being a problem is that Rayman 1 was hugely marketed to a young audience, yet when I was that age it took me forever to beat Band Land, and while I think I could have completed the game eventually, having to then go back into the harder stages and search for cages would have fucked me up.
Other than that, Rayman 1 might be something that's too aged to be enjoyed by everyone. I'm not even talking so much about its level design, but more about the general visual and atmospheric aspects of the game. It's a bit artsy and awkward at times, and while that is probably the reason I enjoy it so much, I can imagine that someone jumping into it might find it sort of obscure. I mean, most of Picture City (in the PSX version, at least) seems to either have no music or the minimalist beat, giving it a very strange, yet intriguing feel.

Re: Rayman Legends
I can admit Rayman 1 is flawed in few aspects, but listing "It's too hard" as a flaw is hilarious. Though as a kid, yes, Rayman 1 was tough as nails for me. People who say this need to go play Dark Souls, lol.
I really like Rayman 1's quickly amped up difficulty. Seriously. Sure it's rather sudden, you go through the dream forest, no sweat, you reach Band Land, shit's already getting hectic. It prepares you for what's to come and I really like that. It doesn't just hold your hand for you. I think the recent Rayman games have been rather lax in terms of difficulty quite honestly.
