It's a shame that the menu icons from the 1.1 theme couldn't be recovered; I remember spending hours creating them in MS Paint (there were two versions of each, normal and active/hover) and uploading them directly as BMPs.

If they're so precious, why didn't you save them yourself?

I don’t use it right now, but I’ll switch!Hunchman801 wrote:As of now I can only think of Fifo but there might be others.

They're not precious, it'd just have been fun to see them again after all these years.PluMGMK wrote:If they're so precious, why didn't you save them yourself?

I remember one or two pieces of those screenshots were taken from my windows 95 computer back then. Man, those sure were the days. Days when the internet didn't need hundreds of megabytes worth of RAM either.

Bump.
So I was going through some of the old Pirate-Community days through the WayBack machine, and while I was on the board index in April 2017, I clicked on a little lone bar in March 2006, which led me to the board index of that time. First time I was on that page.

I was thinking, is Pirate community not named after the robot pirates? I was a bit surprised to see it lacked the pirate theme in the past.

Ah, one in which Rayman had already been castrated! And Xenon was the only human online at the time…
Re: A Screenshot Memory of RaymanPC's Past! Early 2007 Theme
It's weird to see Xenon was already called that in 2006, I really thought he still had the Spaceray name back then.
That probably makes Xenon the first member I remember ever changing names too.

Is there some kind of in-joke I'm missing?

The documentary will provide the context to that which you seek.
Though on the topic of old threads, crikey, the photobucket notices are really starting to become glaring on the eyes. I'm half tempted to block them entirely.

Doesn't PluM know how to recover them? I'm thinking it might be worth writing a bot for that.

Simply long-pressing and opening image location seemed to work consistently on IceCat on my old phone. Haven't tried since getting the new one but I'd imagine that it works in any mobile Firefox.

I wonder if this could have something to do with the request headers?

Re: A Screenshot Memory of RaymanPC's Past! Early 2007 Theme
No. In fact it's just the fact that the mobile website loads a non-nerfed version of the image. Here's the secret formula:

As for a bot implementing this, yeah, I guess someone could do that.
- Take a PB URL like http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v418/ ... ateare.jpg
- Replace the "http://img.photobucket.com" part at the beginning with "https://rs1067.pbsrc.com", so our example becomes https://rs1067.pbsrc.com/albums/v418/Mi ... ateare.jpg
- At the end of the URL add "?w=480&h=480&fit=clip", so our example becomes https://rs1067.pbsrc.com/albums/v418/Mi ... 0&fit=clip

Re: A Screenshot Memory of RaymanPC's Past! Early 2007 Theme
While that does sound like a rather nice idea in updating the URL, wouldn't it be a better idea to possibly re-upload the images on another image hosting service (like imgur) or dedicated server?
I'm thinking long-term here on image preservation, with the route Photobucket has taken, I still feel they won't last for much longer.

Yeah, I have ideas for a bot to use this technique and replace all Photobucket images with attachments. Letting such a thing loose would be risky though (and anyway I'm not sure when I'll have time to do it).

Yeah, I can see where that is a concern.PluMGMK wrote:Yeah, I have ideas for a bot to use this technique and replace all Photobucket images with attachments. Letting such a thing loose would be risky though (and anyway I'm not sure when I'll have time to do it).
Though now we're talking about it... the main screenshots in the first post are hosted on Photobucket.
I'm going to have to see if Hunch can upload those directly to the server for us to preserve.

Or we could just replace them with attachments, as I just did.
