Re: Official Nintendo Topic
I've been thinking, wouldn't it be possible to put a piece of cloth on the inner front side of the dock to prevent scratches? As long as the dock doesn't have a perfectly tight fit, I'd imagine any old piece of fabric could stop the screen from scratching.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
I've read that is what some folks have indeed done. As you can see here.
But even so, it doesn't seem like the best idea to force folks to have to fork out a bit extra for an inherent design flaw. I'm reminded of Apple's antenna problems with the iPhone 4. Despite their objections to the issue, they were still kind enough to provide free cases to mitigate the problem, if memory serves.

Hmm, though screen protectors do exist for the switch, so that may be the most feasible option to prevent the scratches.

$450 because I got a bundle that came with Zelda BOTW, Fast RMX, and Snipperclips. Also comes with BOTW expansion pass and artbook.Master wrote:Hmm, it's $299 for the Switch itself if memory serves. Hopefully I'm not prying, but how much did you end up having to pay?
I would've got the $300 console, but as you know Nintendo is putting minimal effort into stocking those things.
Yeah, absolutely. I've already bought 2 glass screen protectors for the damn thing before I even received it due to my fear of the dock scratching it.Master wrote:But even so, it doesn't seem like the best idea to force folks to have to fork out a bit extra for an inherent design flaw.

Indeed, but that's besides the point. People shouldn't have to pay extra for something that Ninty should've dealt with.Hoodcom wrote:Hmm, though screen protectors do exist for the switch, so that may be the most feasible option to prevent the scratches.
Well, that's pretty expensive, but at least it sounds like you got your money's worth.Rayfist wrote:$450 because I got a bundle that came with Zelda BOTW, Fast RMX, and Snipperclips. Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Agreed, I know they could have designed it better, like even so much as some sort of felt cloth on the parts that stick out a bit that are up against the edges of the screen. Some sort of padding they could have built in so simply.Master wrote:Indeed, but that's besides the point. It was either that or a scalped one for $400 that's the console only.Master wrote:Indeed, but that's besides the point. Can't complain there then, better to ensure that Ninty gets the money than some opportunist.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
I was pretty tempted to buy one from a scalper, but even the scalping prices have went up. I might have spent a hefty amount on the bundle, but at least I know I'll get my moneys worth, and I didn't have to support any scalper in the process so I guess it's a win-win. Though it also means I got hit a bit in terms of money- I'll have to lay cool for a bit from spending for a good month or so.
I guess the reason why I really fought to get this damn thing was due to the fact that I kind of felt like with Nintendo's stocking situation- I really was upset over the fact that I didn't hop on the chance at launch. And it's one of those "well if I don't get it now, I probably won't get it for over a year" type situations.
I guess Nintendo didn't want to over produce on them, but I think it's no secret that Nintendo is using scarcity as a means of trying to lure people into buying one, and it's fucking working, the NES classic should be an indicator of that.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Hmm, did they do the same thing for the Switch? I know that they purposely understocked for the NES Classic, but I was under the impression that the lack of stock was due to them not expecting such popularity. Though I guess that might just be for show to talk the Switch up, cynical as it may sound.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
The Wii was no different, it was rather difficult to obtain and for sometime at that.
Wii U was the only exception. I can't say I know if the GameCube was this difficult or not, it didn't seem to be.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
I'm unsure, but I am finding it a little strange how a lot of my local stores are getting 3-8 of them every few days on and off. I know Nintendo doesn't have a LOT of money, but even with the PS4 selling like crazy on launch, it was not difficult to just go into any store and obtain one. The NES classic situation can certainly be boiled down to scarcity, there is no question or doubt about that, the fact that they're already ending production of those things is ridiculous. And considering the fact that even on launch for that thing they only had maybe 5 at most at every few local stores (a lot of which were mostly bought out by employees before they even put them out.) Which is a damn shame, the NES classic is an excellent throwback console for those wanting to play retro games, and compared to the horrible quality of virtual console, NES classic does a great job emulating the games, even on a giant TV it looks very nice.Master wrote:Hmm, did they do the same thing for the Switch? I think you're pretty spot on actually. I think the Wii was in a vastly different situation where it actually was getting sold out due to popularity, as the console appealed to a massive range of ages: kids, teens, adults, and even older folks. I think we can definitely say that isn't so much the case with the Switch. Though if this is Nintendo's "sneaky" tactic, it's clearly fucking working... after all, I bought one mainly due to the fact that I didn't want to pay any scalper. I got lucky since I know someone who works at the local game store, and EVEN with that type of connection, we still had a really difficult time tracking down a Switch, as a small handful would show up at unexpected times.Master wrote:Though I guess that might just be for show to talk the Switch up, cynical as it may sound.
Nintendo can resort to the whole "well we had no idea-" excuse all they want, but I think a lot of us are much smarter than that. Those who have stuck with Nintendo recently in terms of the whole scarcity with amiibo's and console's know all too well about these tactics. Next time they announce of a new console or amiibo, you better be damn ready to either pre-order or wait in line at launch, or your chances of obtaining it are slim. It's also due to this bullshit that Nintendo related items will increase in price drastically over the years.

There's rumblings going about now about Switch units becoming warped after being docked over time. Anyone been affected?

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Thankfully no, but my Switch has already been collecting dust since I picked up Persona 5 for PS4.
Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Nice to see they've shown Rayman Legends in the new direct, also, if I get a switch I'll definitely get Payday 2
I'm also really digging that new splatoon 2 mode, which is basically cod zombies.

Well, looks like some folks are going to be very upset, and others, rubbing their hands with glee.

Anyone else having really jew issues with the battery life? Mine can go through a full battery life in roughly an hour, it literally drains just to have the home menu open. Leaving it in sleep mode overnight drains it halfway, and turning it off somehow drains nearly the entire battery. I'll probably have to send it in alongside a left joycon fix.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Well look at that, they're making yet another 2DS... I really don't see the point. It's not 3D, they didn't fold, the first model technically didn't even have two screens. So it's not really a part of the "3DS" family if it meets none of the criteria of the name, you might as well just get a handheld emulator.
At least they used the clamshell design again, the old ones were so wedgey and impractical. Just get a 3DS and turn off the 3D if it's a problem, they're usually more cheap on eBay anyway.
