Re: Rayman 2
Me too, I love the art direction of the game. That is why it is such a pity they made many pictures exclusive to the museum exibithion. They could consider launching a book focused in the art of the games in the course of the years.

Yeah, it's full of mistakes if I recall correctly. As for names, they simply don't care.PluMGMK wrote:They give Ambre Écueil's French name? I guess the fairies are like Matuvus/Tribelles and Teensie Doctors then, they can't seem to decide what they want to call them in English! Also, lol at "First Rayman game on Mobile".
Re: Rayman 2
I just discovered something weird when replaying the 3DS version of Rayman 2. While in the Canopy, after having entered the knowledge of the world, I could get the gold fists power-up whenever I spammed shoot while strafing. I have no clue if it's a bug or not. I tried in another stage, but it didn't work, but when going back to the Canopy I was able to do it again.

Re: Rayman 2
Hmm, the 3DS version is a port of the Dreamcast version, right? Perhaps you activated one of the cheats found in the Tomb of the Ancients secret.
Re: Rayman 2
Ah, it seems I must have activated the gauntlet cheat. It wasn't really that obvious though since there was no text appearing on the screen or any sort of visual cue. I guess it was just some leftover code from the Dreamcast version then.

Re: Rayman 2
Strafing rather than being under a well? Interesting. And after consulting the Knowledge of the World? Someone should probably check if this happens in the DC version too.

Re: Rayman 2
Hmm, "well" in this case seems to refer to vertical passageways. The Canopy has quite a few of those, if memory serves. Whereabouts exactly did you do the cheat?
Re: Rayman 2
I did it right at the start of the level about where the spider spawns. I guess the hole the spider comes from can be considered a vertical passageway, so that's probably why it only worked there and not in any other level I tried. About the whole knowledge of the world and strafing thing, it might have been a coincidence (like I was strafing first when I got under the spider spawn point).

Re: Rayman 2
Yeah, the spider's drop-down is a well all right. Okay, that's that mystery solved!

Re: Rayman 2
Isn't the entire first level of the Canopy a vertical passageway? I wonder if it's less to do with the spider's spawnpoint and more just the general level.
Anyways, onto the next Rayman 2 discovery! The Great Plum Oddity!

Re: Rayman 2
Continuing the plum post discussion from the other thread, that new discovery just makes it look like bad programming. I really can't think of any situation where it would be useful to have the plum tree determine if the plum post can hold the plum indefinitely or not. Though this also means that plum posts are just empty objects, perhaps even of the same type as other objects in the game that can have objects on top of them.
If that's true, I wonder what would happen if you throw a plum that can be thrown onto a plum post on top of the base of a magic sphere: the magic spheres probably have the behavior to only bind to the base of the same color as the sphere, but do the bases have the behavior to reject spheres of the opposite color, and plums? And what about the Gorilla Pirate, which also seems to act as a plum post? Guess there's no level to test this in though.

Re: Rayman 2
I would imagine that the Gorilla Pirate is a different kettle of fish, since it's an actual NPC with its own unique behaviour. But maybe not. For the rest, well, I guess I'll see what can be done with Ad's tool…

And to think this started with a "you know you suck at Rayman when" line!
Like Master stated in that topic, someone should probably add the discovery to the plum RayWiki article.

Re: Rayman 2
Thanks to RayTwol, I have ascertained:
The plum from the Gorilla Pirate room does not bind to the post.
Neither does the plum from where you meet Murfy.
However, the plum from where you meet Murfy does work with the Gorilla Pirate.
So like I said, it seems the behaviour with the Gorilla Pirate is intrinsic to that entity rather than being a property of the plum.
Also it seems my "emergency plum tree" from the mini-Jano room didn't spark as much interest.
I guess it was already known?

Re: Rayman 2
So, all Plums work on Gorilla Pirates, but not on posts? Very strange, wonder why they did that?

Re: Rayman 2
Well, like Droolie said, they basically have empty objects on top of the posts, which can probably serve multiple purposes, and don't necessarily detect plums specifically. Whereas the pirates have their own code and logic which can (and must, really) do the plum-detecting itself.

Re: Rayman 2
Hmm, so if you were so inclined, you could move these objects and be able to have plums catch and float in mid-air? That sounds like a fun experiment. I haven't messed with RayTwol recently, perhaps I should delve in and see if that can be done.

Re: Rayman 2
I guess, though aiming would be hell.
Also, I forgot to mention the other thing I ascertained: Plum generators are solid, so if you put them too close to the floor, you die if you walk too near, from "crushing".

Re: Rayman 2
A bit like that telefrag from the Robo-Pirates spawning? Interesting. As for the objects, wouldn't the game be programmed to have Rayman automatically throw towards the post object? Or is that another object on top?

Re: Rayman 2
Interesting stuff! This gives me a lot more motivation to work on the hot-updating feature, since I'm sure a lot of cool shit will be found if we can manipulate objects/watch them move in real time.
