First the challenge name:
The Race to Kill Razorbeard!!!
This is a challenge to determine who can speedrun the fastest and then kill Razorbeard first?!?! Points will be awarded based on who finished first, and certain levels will yield more points than others.
First off, R4Y's commentary here.
And for those who've read the commentary, here are the results!!R4Y_ANC3L wrote:I thought it would fun to post it here in a Rayman 2 thread.
I'm doing a side by side playthrough with Jonster's videos of his walkthroughs while I play the game while the videos play from his perspective so it is looking kinda like a challenge, if you see what I mean. I'm gonna see if I can get to Razorbeard and defeat him before he does while playing against the playing time of the videos of Jonster playing.
The Race to kill Razorbeard!!!(Rayman 2 challenge between R4Y and Jonster report)
The Challenge begins with the two noble warriors starting their games at the same time!
-The Escape from the Prison Ship
They set off!
R4Y sets off into the slide in the Prison Ship and but Jonster somehow got a better lead of R4Y and had a hard landing before R4Y did.
-Woods Of Light
The gap closes since R4Y was able to pull off the amazing Baby Globox Cutscene skip and cleared Woods Of Light Before Jonster did. An amazing feat indeed!
The loading save times were disastrous for R4Y, nONETHELESS...
-Fairy Glade
Jonster was actually able to rescue Ly before R4Y did and gained the purple lum swing powerup. R4Y did make an amazing comeback and dropped right in front of Jonster's lane at the Pipe slime Jump section. But due to the flump up in the Wind current section, that lead Jonster to victory and clear the Fairy Glade first. Does R4Y suck at Rayman 2?
-Marshes of Awakening
Jonster cleared the level before R4Y since he kept being in contact with the final pirahna at the last turn before the way to the last cage of the level.
-Walk Of Life
This is Jonster's fourth victory at completing a level first. Does it look like Razorbeard's head will be on Jonster's wall. R4Y seems to be slacking off since he messed up his jump at the bridge.
-The Bayou
Jonster was at first in the lead but he made a few accidental swims in the swamp water, especially getting squished by the rolling barrels. Does he need the Donkey Kong experience? Due to R4Y's expertise at risky jumping and getting the purple lum without activativing(speedrun strat) the bridge to be within reach. It was not escapable. R4Y cleared the Bayou before Jonster. Things just got real in Rayman 2.
-The Sanctuary of Water And Ice
Jonster and R4Y opened the magical sphere door at the same time. R4Y struggled for a few seconds with the purple lum mechanics because of the finicking-ness with Axel while Jonster took damage and put away Axel and reached the first mask before R4Y did.
-Menhir Hills(First Visit)
Jonster cruised past R4Y by skipping cages knowing that he can come back to them later. R4Y played as a smart-ass and took out hidden cages so he doesn't have to be concerned about them later. All because Jonster accelerated into a nettle/spiky tentacle and started over, he respawned as soon as R4Y reached that area that Jonster started from. From then on R4Y notices Clark being sick before Jonster did.
-Cave Of Bad Dreams.
Jonster cleared the stage and made the decision while R4Y was stuck forever trying to defeat Jano because of that infamous falling off the platforms bug. The game's buggy problem punished R4Y severely.
-Menhir Hills(Second visit)
Looks like what R4Y did at first(Look at what he did in the first visit) saved him the trip to get the hidden cages while Jonster had to go and get them leaving him behind. R4Y was the first to cure Clark and clear the stage. Jonster was struggling with the walking shell ride with the growing menhirs a lot more than R4Y did which punished him severely. Ain't that sweet?.
-The Canopy
Jonster decided to let the spider chase him and he killed it at the end but R4Y killed it faster than he did since he stayed back fought it like a man. Jonster ended up getting the upgraded shot silver lum first since R4Y kept letting things happen offscreen which slowed him down. Jonster destroyed the pirates before R4Y did. Jonster and R4Y were very close to each other at the end but Jonster completed his tasks faster and cleared the stage first. Another victory for Jonster.
[6th July: 2nd Day]
-Whale Bay
Jonster was quite ahead of R4Y since he was quick enough to spam shots at the barrel pirate and flicked the switch quickly while R4Y on the other hand got lazy and was not keen enough to put away his enemy quickly. He defeated the barrel pirate and flicked the switch soon afterwards. Jonster's lead did not last long since he struggled with the first Robo pirate. While R4Y killed him with ease and completed the task to continue on; leaving Jonster behind. Jonster did catch up to R4Y in the whale swimming section but R4Y decided to skip the red lum secret passageway when Jonster headed there himself. Jonster and R4Y were almost neck and neck at the final part of the level but it was too late since R4Y exited the stage before Jonster did.
-The Sanctuary of Stone & Fire
Jonster was a bit ahead of R4Y and he got far up ahead since both of their skills in battle against the pirates displayed differently. One of them did quite well. They both went separate ways in the plum rides to the hidden cages. Because R4Y headed for the long route to the cage under the machine rooter FIRST before the one with the gorilla pirate, all of that stress of getting back there is decreased. You can't say the same for Jonster, unfortunately. R4Y made it to the way to the Wrong Temple. Jonster arrived there right as soon as R4Y was done talking to Murfy. R4Y entered the Wrong Temple first. Jonster was slowly catching up to R4Y. However, that gap closes in the Shell Ride Section. Jonster failed more times than R4Y since the weird physics and collision were punishing him severely and R4Y was actually good enough to get out of there first AND keep two of his Power fist upgrades. From then on Jonster eventually got out of there while R4Y destroyed any enemies in his path with his power fists and entered the Sanctuary before Jonster did. Later on..Jonster was again slowly catching up to R4Y at the magic sphere sections. Jonster was a few centimetres behind R4Y in the delivery of the blue sphere since R4Y kept respawning at the final hidden slide but R4Y was the first to awaken Umber and he was also the first to obtain the second mask.
-The Echoing Caves
Jonster was the first to activate the first switch.
Jonster was the first to activate the second Switch.
R4Y was the first to activate the third switch.
R4Y was the first to activate the final switch.
Jonster was slowly catching up to R4Y in the next part. R4Y did fell in the toxic and did not get the green lum but Jonster did. But R4Y did an amazing comeback and flew with the keg towards the cage and destroyed it with the keg while Jonster was trying to spring up and destroy it himself. R4Y was the first to enter the Backtracking secret to the Fairy Glade. After the Secret, R4Y was the first to get back to the original level. Jonster came back sooner and was actually catching up to R4Y. But despite efforts, Jonster suffered greatly since checkpoints were totally not on his side everytime he fell in the toxic because of bad timing of letting go of the keg. R4Y was smoothly continuing onto the last cage and was again the first to finish.
-Fairy Glade(Backtracking Secret)
R4Y discovered it first while Jonster followed him. They both were on the plum to ride it down the toxic slime. Jonster was looking to get ahead but probably because of the plum or bad camera angle, he fell over and had to start over from where the plum grows; leaving R4Y far in the lead and at the same time allowed him to leave and get back to The Echoing Caves first.
-The Precipice
R4Y was in the lead because Jonster somehow messed up at the grabbing ropes and bridge. But Jonster took the lead when R4Y messed up after the part where he first messed up. From then on R4Y kept failing as much as Jonster did. But Jonster was failing despite being in the lead and R4Y was slightly behind and then far behind because of fails. Jonster was the first to continue to the next chase section. Jonster failed and respawned right as soon as R4Y entered that section. R4Y was then a bit in the lead with Jonster simply running up behind or aside of him but timed the jumps on the destroyed bridge badly and respawned; leaving R4Y in the lead for good. Jonster appeared to be out of his league in that flooding tower run section, since he kept falling and getting squished by barrels. Is he in dire need of Donkey Kong Experience? R4Y is a bit far in the lead with Jonster catching up slowly but surely. But R4Y was forever in the lead because he was good enough to keep the power fists from the second chase section and destroyed the pirates with ease. You can't say the same thing for Jonster, though. R4Y was first to finish the level but he only had 48/50 lums while Jonster completed the level 100% despite being in last.
-Top Of The World
R4Y rode the chair before Jonster did. Their rides were not the same however. R4Y was the first to infiltrate the fortress since Jonster kept colliding into parts of Infrastructure because of the chair's speed. Jonster did eventually met up with R4Y since exploring the place for lums and such slowed him down. Because R4Y got rid of enemies first before saving the teensie, the escort would a smooth one. Jonster, on the other hand, did the opposite as well as struggling to destroy the barrel pirate with the keg because of the fail of the target locking mechanic. R4Y was the first to clear the level. Just a few more levels to go...Jonster may have a chance to get past him since the gap between first and last are temporarily open.
-The Walk Of Power
Jonster was in the lead with R4Y slightly behind him. They were both running in the same speed since R4Y was really trying to keep up with Jonster, he could not lose him. But then Jonster made a nasty mistake and timed the jumps at the cliffs badly and that put R4Y in first from then on. Jonster refused to give up and was actually catching up to R4Y very fast! But R4Y was the first to reach the end. So it appears it was R4Y's chance to shine in a bonus level-like stage.
......Who knew that The Walk Of Power was a Luck-Based Level? I sure didn't know that!
-The Sanctuary Of Rock & Lava
Jonster started off in the lead and R4Y was slightly behind him. Jonster killed the pirate a lot quicker than R4Y did and that put him a bit far away from him. Jonster was again getting slowed down because of getting squished by barrels and R4Y was right behind him. They were actually running to the cage together but they were apart because of the manhandling with the cage. They both continued simultaneously onward from the Sanctuarys entrance. Jonster went on to next part before R4Y. Jonster appeared to have been messed by the gravity in jumping away from the floating flower and because checkpoints were so bad to him he started over from the first time of riding the flower; leaving R4Y in first. From then on, R4Y was continuing while Jonster slowly catching up to him, but R4Y reached the end of the level and cleared in first. Jonster was making a way for the end despite fails at the end of running off the ground height levels.
We will now see how good they are at flying a "Helicopter" if you know what the next stage will be...
-Beneath The Sanctuary Of Rock & Lava
Jonster started off in the lead with R4Y behind him. As the level gets worse and worse, R4Y was put farther and farther behind. Jonster was the first to battle Foutch while R4Y was struggling to hurry on towards the fight. Jonster was the first to destroy Foutch and he was also the first to obtain the The Third Mask. Jonster finally pulls a victory! This truly is a battle to get to Razorbeard first!
-The Tomb Of The Ancients
R4Y and Jonster pulled away at the start together until that first spider attack. Jonster killed it before R4Y did probably because he spammed or had better accuracy with his charged shots. R4Y was starting to suck at shooting it. R4Y was the first to activate all three of the platforms to rise from the toxic. R4Y also reached the 1000th lum first since Jonster kept flumping from the floating barrels and using the helicopter to fly over the web by accident and respawned. From then on, R4Y was in the lead but Jonster caught up to him and they were actually together towards the end with no fails.(There were fails..but they were not too punishing) The game was creating buggy problems for R4Y but they were not too much harm. R4Y reached Clark and destroyed the placement experiment on Clark's back before Jonster did. Only three levels to go! The moment of truth is arriving for us...But first let's see who will be the first to obtain the fourth and final mask!
-The Iron Mountains
R4Y and Jonster continued on together from the start. R4Y got ahead of Jonster pretty well since R4Y had found a smart way to deactivate the lasers at the Merry-Go-Round platform while Jonster was looking annoyed to get past that part. R4Y was getting a good lead ahead of Jonster from then on. R4Y was the first to get on the island and he was the first to infiltrate the reformatory. He was also the first to break the last cage of the game. R4Y started riding the shell before Jonster who caught up to him to do shell ride also. Jonster managed to get the lums and get out of there comfortably while R4Y was attempting to do speedrun strats to get the lums and exit the section quicker but all he was doing was Super Mario Galaxy Garbage and failing miserably. R4Y eventually got what he needed and TRIED to exit without missing the jumps(which took him several attempts because of that Robot Dinosaur). When R4Y entered the Pirate Mines Section, Jonster was already flying the Warship. R4Y did his best to catch up, but he was too far behind. Jonster was the first to deliver the Last Mask to Polokus!
One more level...and Razorbeard will make his move!
-The Prison Ship
Jonster had a massive lead ahead of R4Y. Jonster went through two phases while R4Y was on the first part of this whole stage due to outrageous failures of sliding. It was inevitable. R4Y couldn't catch up to Jonster in time since he cleared the level first. All R4Y could now is hope for the best!
-The Crow's Nest
R4Y has defeated Razorbeard in the first phase. Jonster was a second behind.
Jonster has pulled off one extraordinary victory!!!
He has succeeded in defeating Razorbeard before R4Y did!
R4Y tried to finish but after screwing up on the last second, he rage quit..(Well, not with anger.)
The competition is over. But that doesn't mean it would stop there!
The adventure goes on....and on...and on.....for Rayman 2 challenges like this!
