Re: Which is the best Rayman look for you?
Well well that's a tough one. I really believe that each look perfectly fits the game it corresponds to, and its universe, but if I had to pick one, I would say Rayman 2. I really liked the Rayman 3 look as a kid, mostly because it was a lot more trendy than the previous ones that were straight out of the nineties. However, my dad didn't like the hoodie and said it was a bad influence because only delinquents dressed like this. He's an understanding person so he was fine with me playing the game when he was out but he didn't want any Rayman 3 goodies in the house.
However, one day my friend Darren from school got hands one of those statues of Rayman on a mushroom, the ones that were made to promote Rayman 3. I knew they were quite rare so I traded it for my entire collection of Pokémon cards (I didn't really use them anymore). On my way back home, I realized that my father wouldn't want it in the house because of the hoodie, so I hid it under my bed as soon as I got there. Unfortunately, a few weeks later my dad grew tired of the mess in my room and proceeded to hoover it. When he hit the statue under the bed with the vacuum cleaner, he took it out to see what it was, and when he realized it was Rayman with a hoodie, he took me to the garage and broke it to pieces with a hammer in front of me. He then beat the shit out of me with a set of jumper cables.

Was that really your dad? Or was it from an alternative universe?
Because it is a very shocking anecdote in the sense that your own father hit you for having a simple character with a hood (Not knowing that there were others who were Ninjas, Terrorists or Mutants).

It's a real anecdote, but not to worry, things like that only happened when I fucked up big time. For smaller offenses my dad would just use his belt instead.Lil_DRE wrote:Was that really your dad? Or was it from an alternative universe?

Re: Which is the best Rayman look for you?
I'm gonna say Rayman 2. I think he looks a little cuter than his R3-onwards design. Also blue eyes and bandana all the way, please.
Rayman 1 design really bothers me is that he does not seem to have a skull, his head is more less just eyes, nose and chin. It's also kind of obviously dated, though I kind of would agree that for his R2 design also. I'd probably try to hybridise his design if I could.
In Rayman 2 his hair doesn't cover his head giving him the look of a receded hairline and that bothers me.

Re: Which is the best Rayman look for you?
Bump.
Oh no, this is hard, I can't really decide between Rayman 2 or Rayman 3. Rayman 2 is about as cute as he was in the original game but in my opinion this cuteness doesn't fit as well in a game this serious, so I went with Rayman 3. Rayman 3 is definitely more trendy and it brings out more of Rayman's wild side. Though I don't really think this trendy look really fits in too well with a cartoonish environment like RO/RL, so those are among the last on my list unfortunately. Rayman 1 is ok for me, it's very cute and his design is pretty well made compared to others during the 90s era (at least imo, but maybe i'm wrong). I still love all the Rayman games though, I don't really let the looks of characters prevent me from playing the games that I like. I'll always be a Rayman fan.
My list is:
R2/R3
R1
RO
RL

Re: Which is the best Rayman look for you?
I don't mind any of them tbh but I guess:
Rayman Origins (I love the art style)
Rayman 3 (The 3D graphics on him look amazing)
Rayman 1 (The original look for him is cool too and looks really good especially for a game as old as 1995)
Rayman Legends (It's cool looking with the 3D effect but I think Origins looks cooler)
Rayman 2 (I have no problem with the way he looks here either but Rayman 3's model looks better and I had to put something last)
The RO/RL option doesn't make sense in a way as they're very different artwork but meh. Nobody else will care or want to reset the polls just for that one reason of adding an entry.
Edit: Rayman 2 is actually my favourite Rayman game so the style isn't always the most important thing though

Re: Which is the best Rayman look for you?
That's true, I love all the games even though I have preferences on styles. Really, the difference between my preferences of different styles is minimal.
Re: Which is the best Rayman look for you?
After this long, I still feel the same about the styles. I personally just love the cartoon look of Origins and how happy the characters are. I don't dislike any of them and I even think the Legends art is amazing, but I personally just love the Origins style over the rest as a matter of preference.Steo wrote: Tue Apr 24, 2018 3:26 am I don't mind any of them tbh but I guess:

Re: Which is the best Rayman look for you?
My favourite looks has become the Rayman Origins style, followed by R3, R1, RL, and R2. I've really come to love the way the UbiArt style is, and honestly I like the fact that they always look so goofy and happy in Origins compared to other versions, even when they're getting hurt. So I've changed from R3 to RO as a result.

Ah so you agree with me now that the Rayman Origins style looks amazing. It really does look amazing to me. Like they're all amazing, but the cartoon style they used for Origins is so cool

Re: Which is the best Rayman look for you?
Ok, so the order of my favourite Rayman designs are this:
1. Rayman 2 (I love this design because he looks like an adolescent like me and he is wearing a red scarf and tennis shoes, and his hair is blond and straight. I hope this design will return since the european PlayStation Classic advertising named Play History Make History)
2. Rayman 1 (He's adorable in this design, but he looks a preteen)
3. Rayman 3 (His design is okay, but he looks an older teen in this design)
4. Rayman Origins/Rayman Legends (Too similar to the Rayman 3 design, but only that he seems to be 20 years old in this design. Blame the bubble-maded living beings concept.)
Well, if someone likes or doesn't like one of these designs according to my opinion, I will respect his/her opinion.

Rayman's character design
I had often wondered which version of Rayman himself they prefer not the game. For me his 3rd look sporting his updated features like the hoodie and shoes where the one for me. He still gives us that charming attitude but in a more mature but friendly way. I did like his 2nd design too but to me he was a little too serious but I does work for the mood of the game. R3 onwards was the true look he is recognised for.
So, which look is your fave and why?

Re: Rayman's character design
Hmm. Here we have a poll with Origins and Legends as separate options, whereas there they're just one. Is it just that in Legends he's in an oil-painting style?Elite Piranha wrote: Sun Aug 22, 2021 2:22 am I think there is already a topic for this:

I think Rayman 3 is my favourite, though I'm not sure why… I do remember seeing some material on the old RZ, decrying the Rayman 2 style as a mere "adaptation" of the original look to 3D (which isn't really true as far as I can tell), whereas the Rayman 3 one was a complete redesign "for" 3D. Maybe that has weighed on my judgement ever since?

Re: Rayman's character design
Yeah, I think the only thing that changes is the artstyle, but everything else stays the same:PluMGMK wrote: Sun Aug 22, 2021 2:47 am Hmm. Here we have a poll with Origins and Legends as separate options, whereas there they're just one. Is it just that in Legends he's in an oil-painting style?
Re: Rayman's character design
Yeah the reason I put them as seperate options is that alot of people tend favour each slight design over the other. Origins with its more bolder outline and flat colour and minimal details but Legends with its deep canvas style and added detail and depth
However we can extend this again not just to Rayman but to the other main and side characters too especially if they are seen in different styles in other games. Ly for example is strikingly different in 3D as a statue in R3 as opposed to her originalR2 design. And again she has another unusual look in the RRR GBA version too...

Re: Rayman's character design
Yes, I think we can use this thread to talk about other character's designs, that would make it less similar to the "Which is the best Rayman look for you?" thread.

Re: Rayman's character design
If they had Rayman in Smash, I would want them to have his Rayman 3 design or something like that. I don't want Origins or Legends in 3D. Apparently they had the Legends design be 3D in the trophy in Smash for Wii U and I do not like the design of that trophy.

That actually looks okay though I prefer the 3 design. I don't like the trophy design but that one is pretty good.
