(obsolete) Rayman 3 HD Texture Mod Pack for PC version [by ICUP321]

Post by deton24 »

_______________________________________________________________________
We've just received a definitive edition of AI Rayman 3 texture upscale here:
viewtopic.php?p=1416319#p1416319

Comparison:
viewtopic.php?p=1416373#p1416373

Consider everything below as obsolete. Great thanks to ICUP for trail fading.
______________________________________________________________________

Instruction:

1. Download ICUP321 PS3 HD textures:
https://www.google.com/url?q=https://dr ... MJRH90N23P

2. Download Rayman Control Panel:
https://raym.app/rcp/Rayman%20Control%20Panel.exe
(main tool's topic: viewtopic.php?f=89&t=25761)

*. Alternative upscaled PS3 textures version
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kERZS8 ... sp=sharing
Currently, crashes the game using the newest RCP, as a possible fix use this RCP version, or just disable mipmaps in RCP. More info below.

Instruction:
Open Rayman Control Panel and add Rayman 3 to RCP, press drop-down option menu near "launch" button>now go to "utilities">Open Archive Explorer>RBM on tex32_1.cnt>Import>Pick extracted tex32_1.cnt folder from downloaded package>wait 2 minutes

Now the same for tex32_2.cnt -
Minimize opened tex32_1.cnt in the left, and click RBM on tex32_2.cnt>Import>Pick extracted tex32_2.cnt folder from downloaded package>wait 2 minutes

Close archive explorer. Click on the button "Synchronize".

You can discard changes on exit when asked (then it won't overwrite your current config if exists).

Texture source: Rayman 3 HD (PS3)

Credits also goes to:
RayCarrot for his RCP tool, and Droolie with Robin who also worked for making HD textures importing to PC version possible.

The tex mod doesn't seem to be very VRAM consuming, I think it won't eat up more much more than 700MB on FHD, while vanilla is around 70MB less. I have a report that the mod works good on 512MB VRAM GPU.

Upscaled ICUP mod
Later I attempted to upscale these textures with Lanczos by 200% as I successfully did with Dolphin ICUP's mod previously. I think these 200% now may be overkill, since I guess it may show more compression artefacts with Reshade now, but some textures look better (especially in the beginning of level 2/entering fairy council) some looks blurrier (e.g. close look in cinematic when Globox enters the door and escapes). Maybe 150% or less would be better. Results are not so good like when I upscaled Dolphin textures - then I could use different settings while upscaling (e.g. additional sharpener, I just don't remember now). Anyhow, the game seems to look a bit better (with Reshade esp. during normal gameplay when not looking very closely at textures).
The game consumes around ~1000MB VRAM in total now. You can test it out:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kERZS8 ... sp=sharing

"Old RCP versions would only generate the original mipmap count, rather than updating it to match the new resolution. That's why it just barely fit within 2 GB before [and it worked with old RCP].
That was not ideal though - the mipmap count should match the resolution, otherwise the game might not handle them correctly.
You can still apply the upscaled textures with mipmaps disabled. The game will just use the full-resolution texture at all times then.
"mipmapping does look better I'd say"
You only notice it if you look closely at far away textures"

I've just updated the HD texture pack to have extra X360 and PS3 HUD textures, though like I said it won't affect the game that much since it only really covers the pause menu, but anyways you should probably edit the post to remove that quote I made a while back.

I've just released an update, it's really just an optimization update. The file size of the texture pack is smaller now, but you won't notice a difference in quality, it'll look pretty much the same.

Your link given in 1st post haven't changed? You've just replaced the archive with the same file name on your Google Drive?
Yeah I just replaced the archives with newer versions, the file size is now lower if you have good memory, the 7z used to be around 270 mb but now it's 250 mb.

This texture pack sounds awesome! Sadly I get this error everytime I try to import the new textures into the archive files with the RCP Archive Explorer: "An error occured when repacking the archive. It comes up a few minutes after importing has started. Error massage: Non-negative number required. Parameter name: value" Do you know how to fix this?

EDIT: After importing the folders seperately, I found out that the tool gets this error when importing the 'bonus' and 'mountain' folder into the tex32_1.cnt file, when trying to import the PS3 upscaled textures, and it only has this problem with the 'bonus' folder with the standard PS3 textures as well.

Alternatively we may think about uploading standalone files to mod the game without RCP, but I don't know which files exactly change beside texture archives during texture sync. At least for now.
Maybe looking for modification date the same as texture files will do the trick.

Edit. Try to use the RCP version not newer than the date of the first post.

That error will happen if the size of the packed .cnt archive exceeds 2 GB. In my latest RCP update I allow the files to go up to 4 GB now, however the game itself does not appear to be able to handle that as it crashes. This is probably why it only fails with the later folders for you, since by then it has almost reached 2 GB in size.
If you use the texture pack which is not upscaled it won't exceed 2 GB and it'll import fine. You might need to restore your .cnt files to how they originally before doing that though. If you have GOG Galaxy you can repair the game files to do it.

Edit: I should mention you can use the upscaled textures if you disable mipmap generation in the RCP settings. Then they take up a lot less space.

It works now, thanks! I picked the normal PS3 pack now. I also made a HD version of the font sheet myself, but sadly the text gets all glitched up ingame. It's like a higher resolution texture doesn't work with the font. Maybe you have an idea to make this work? Here you can download the HD font texture: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NPp77x ... sp=sharing

Sadly you can't change the resolution of the font. The game parses it based on the pixel offsets, and modyfing the offsets will result in the font displaying at the wrong size. So sadly there's no workaround for it.

That's too bad... I hope it will someday be possible.

P.S. Do you maybe know how to fix that the rippling water animations are waaay too fast on the PC version?

Okay, too bad.

I've been modding interface stuff and a few in-game textures of the game, and I came up with this:
Text balloons before: https://i.imgur.com/LRq3uEt
Text balloons after: https://i.imgur.com/VotUbpc
Stars end level HD: https://i.imgur.com/dBN1YnW
Improved wood and sky stars textures: https://i.imgur.com/2xKyyDg.jpg
Sadly I could not improve the resolution of the fonts, but I was able to add a bit of shadow to make the text look prettier and better readable.

I've also fixed and upscaled the stars icons at the end of the level and all of the loading screens, fixed the health bar, improved the red lums and the menu. Let me know if anyone is interested in a download link :)

Hey, so I know there's other texture packs for the PC version that upscale the game using AI now, but some people like me would rather just use the official textures. Anyways, can you replace the download link from the first post to redirect to this one since I had to reupload it somewhere else:
