Yeah < sees the word "gaming" as the selling point when realistically it's just an uncomfortable chair with cheaply added gimmicks to try make it look "cool". < also got the Origin PC laptop in, with the custom UV print of <'s character Reese. < is glad they do UV prints right!
First thing < did was upgrade the wifi card in it with one < had on hand so it can utilize <'s Wifi 6E network. < has the Ubiquiti U6-Enterprise access points here now, and < especially wanted that since < does utilize a network attached storage on the network to handle <'s storage needs.
< will eventually upgrade the RAM and SSD too.
Re: The You Game!
< almost forgets that < has a laptop sometimes, since < also brought all the parts of <'s PC abroad and rebuilt it. <'s laptop isn't that bad in terms of specs, it has a Ryzen and a mobile RTX 2060, though the only downside to it is the fact that the screen is probably the crappiest IPS in existence. While IPS are normally good, I believe this one is so washed out that it apparently only covers a little over 60% of sRGB. < plans to eventually replace the screen with a better one if < can find a compatible one, though as of now it's not a priority.

Though yeah, < understands that ^ has other priorities in place.
< needs a laptop case for the new laptop though. < guesses since <'s brother is trying to figure out a gift for < for Christmas, maybe that'll be a good one.
Re: The You Game!
Yeah < didn't even know an IPS could be that bad lol. Many TN panels are definitely better than that. It's a BOE NV156FHM-NX1, and it's probably even worse than you would have expected.Hoodcom wrote: Tue Nov 21, 2023 2:24 pm Holy crap really? < is surprised an IPS panel is that bad. < does have other priorities as of now, even when it comes to electronics, < wants to get a new phone because <'s old one is about 4 years old now. Aside from that, there's living expenses, and also Christmas around the corner.

< understands that living expenses take priority, you gotta eat and keep the bills all paid. Plus < wouldn't be surprised if ^ had a special Christmas gift in mind for the special person in ^'s life.
Speaking of which < still needs to get some gifts ordered for <'s family.
Re: The You Game!
< actually thought that < was just overreacting and being "fussy" when < first seen the screen, until those appalling specs actually reflected it for what it really is, a piece of crap.Hoodcom wrote: Tue Nov 21, 2023 5:04 pm After looking at the page ^ linked, holy crap dude... < would consider replacing it if < can be sure that another screen will work. < doesn't know if it has the bandwidth for a 144Hz or 165Hz screen. < is more than fine with 120Hz, but good screens don't seem to really exist in 120Hz is the issue, they seem to be budget ones. < hopes maybe a 144Hz one can work.
< says yeah, paying rent and having food is the most important thing at the moment. < doesn't need a lot to be happy, < is just happy to have <'s friends, family, and special one ofc. < will definitely look into getting them something nice, same goes for <'s family and even <'s gf's family too.
< hopes that ^ can manage to get everything sorted in time.

< Does have a list of things <'s mom wants, and generally <'s dad and brother are harder to shop for. <'s niece will be easy since she's only almost a year old.
Oh yeah, <'s new chair should actually be here today. Since FedEx lied about yesterday's delivery date. So once < gets home this afternoon, < will be assembling that.

It's good that ^ has an idea of what to get then in that case. < also always found it hard to shop for <'s dad, but he just liked simple things like t-shirts with something funny on them.Hoodcom wrote: Tue Nov 21, 2023 7:06 pm < Does have a list of things <'s mom wants, and generally <'s dad and brother are harder to shop for. <'s niece will be easy since she's only almost a year old.

<'s gf also had problems with FedEx doing that here before. < waited in all day here with no headphones on just in case they knocked, and they didn't. Then the next day they tried to call her phone but didn't say anything when she answered, and then claimed that we missed the delivery even though they were never here. < then realised that they had so many 1 out of 5 star reviews, and < could see why.
Re: The You Game!
< Will most likely buy the same friend a steam gift. < Also had amazon miss my house for a delivery, but they delivered it to my next door neighbor. What happened was < essentially got two of the same order. < Is not complaining.

< as usual has no idea what to get anyoneLast year < got their mother a laptop (which sits nicely at the intersection of the two topics discussed above) but that's not gonna be necessary this year
![]()
< does wonder if ^ forced linux upon ^'s mother.
< also did assemble the chair, and it's certainly nicer than the previous chair is for sure. < needs to remember to wish <'s one friend a Happy Birthday for tomorrow and his gift on the way.
Re: The You Game!
< actually tried to put Linux on <'s mother's laptop a couple years back because it didn't have the greatest specs. Unfortunately she didn't know how to do certain things, so it didn't really click with her.
< is glad that ^ likes the new chair. < remembers <'s gf had a chair last year that was quite annoying; when you moved in it, it would creak or make a loud clank sound. Needless to say, she didn't like it very much and found it very irritating.

Haha, < isn't surprised that ^ did try that. At least it was worth a try to see if she wanted it or liked it or not.
<'s mom will likely stay on Windows unless something horribly changes with it. Which the same probably would apply to < as well.
< understands that crap chairs like that are irritating for sure. < just knows that from experience, by the time you buy multiple chairs because they keep breaking or something, you spent as much, if not more money than you would have a good quality office chair. That would just be a little bit more money than the garbage 'gaming' chairs.

On the bright side of things... apparently they are having to apply to new EU laws that allow users to uninstall things like Microsoft Edge completely. < wonders when the US will grow some balls and do the same.

Re: The You Game!
< ended up going with an Oppo X5 Pro. There are a few things though that < will just have to live with. The punch hole camera (which is at least on the side instead of the center) is one thing, though the loss of the 3.5mm jack and an SD card are the main drawbacks for <. < was going to get the Pi 4, but then by complete coincidence when < considered it, the 5 happened to be just around the corner. < got the one with 8GB RAM since it was only a little extra and it made more sense since the RAM can't be upgraded. < is sure it will come in handy for many things.
