Didn't the bad solder thing turn out to be a red herring, and it was actually related to the NVIDIA Bumpgate scandal? Or was that never proven?
I'll have to look it up, this is what's claimed by Xbox folks:

Yes indeed, 'twas the solder bumps inside the chips. The problem was that NVIDIA had chosen a matrix material with a glass transition temperature that was too low. They tried to blame their customers, and when it became clear that the chips themselves were the problem, they tried to blame TSMC (who weren't too impressed by that).

Funfact: for a few years there, one of the people in my reporting chain had been fairly high up in NVIDIA while all that was going down :hap:

The thing is, I'm fairly certain the GPU in the Xbox 360 was made by ATI, so I'm not quite sure if it was simply just Nvidia, there was some issues fabhouse side or if this was a similar bad design decision by Microsoft or ATI. PS3 was definitely an Nvidia GPU though.

I'm fairly certain the Wii at the time also used an ATI GPU, and I don't recall similar issues there, mind you. It's interesting how things have changed in the modern era however, both Xbox and PlayStation use AMD (as we know, they bought ATI out), and it's now Nintendo who uses Nvidia hardware with the Switch.

Tbh I was told to replace the hard drive in my original Xbox cuz it could rot and make the entire console unplayable or something? But my Xbox was hardcore modded to run Linux?

From what I've seen, modding is usually either some form of software exploit, or soldering something directly onto the motherboard. The Hard Drive doesn't tend to be involved outside of putting stuff onto it to load custom software. As such, if there's a risk of rot, that's still going to be present regardless if the console itself is stock or modded, unless the Hard Drive was also swapped out previously. I'd check to see if it is affected if there is a known issue there.

Kent is probably one of the best places to live for being active in the UK, luckily.

You could see if anyone is willing to set up parkrun in Kazakhstan, they managed to open one in Lithuania recently.

I don’t think parkruns have anything to do with confidence..
