The wiki actually states the folllowing:
In the Dreamcast version of the game, these appearances are expanded greatly: in addition to the Woods of Light, giant mosquitoes now appear in the Fairy Glade, the Marshes of Awakening, the Bayou and the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava.
That's quite a few levels, but the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire is not mentioned there, is that a mistake?

Did you happen to work on Rayman Revolution, by any chance? :hap:

That would explain a lot of things about Revolution.

After playing it several times, I'm liking this version more and more... And I'm being serious with this
I wasn't a big fan of its "open world", but I don't know, I'm getting more and more used to it and I don't think it's as bad as people say. I still prefer the classic design out of pure nostalgia, but after playing it several times, I think I've been too critical of Revolution's world design.

My biggest gripe with Revolution isn't the open world, but the "do you want to save prompt" popping up during every section transition, especially given the fact how long it takes to access the emulated memory card when there are a lot of saves.

I didn't mind the save too much, though I agree that it could've done it in a far more elegant manner. My major dislikes about Revolution is how it jumbled some levels up, and the fact that it stops playing music on level revisits.

The part about the levels is also my main concern. I don't think the open world is that bad, but it feels quite empty and the battles against whole regiments of pirates are incredibly boring.

Yeah I think there was clearly an effort to spice up Rayman 2's rather barebones combat, but it's still quite lacklustre and I'd argue some of the shoot upgrades actually trivialise combat even further to the point where whole regiments are as meaningless as singular enemies in regular Rayman 2.

Though on the other hand last time I played Revolution I tried to play without buying any upgrades, and it did make combat a little more challenging...but it was more tedious than anything.

Honestly if there was a Rayman 2 remake, I'd love if they scrapped its combat and adapted Rayman 3's instead. It's much more dynamic and involved.

It feels to me like one of those passionate but poorly designed mods

But now that I'm designing my own game, maybe these comments will come back to bite me :oops2:

I looked at the Teensies in the Japanese version of Rayman 2, why do they look like they're about to burst into tears lol

Ironically as I kid, I had Rayman 2 on the 64, and I always hated that I couldn't walk from place to place, confined to a single line on the hall of doors (Similar to Rayman 3's "You're here now" thing. I mean, I expect point A to point B on Rayman 1...) even when there was this supposedly whole wide world to explore.

So way down the line I got Rayman Revolution on my PS2 and I realized I could walk from place to place! There was an upgrades shop! Minigames etc...Literally EVERYTHING I wanted Rayman 2 to have as a kid. So yeah, Revolution is one of my favorite versions of Rayman 2. (I like all of them, except maybe the DS one, haha... :oops2: )

(I like Rayman 2 Forever also, I just think it's neat.)

I know Revolution isn't really everyone's cup of tea though, and that's okay.

I'll be honest, my only gripe with Revolution is the voice acting. I know people are gonna say "you can switch it back to Raymanian". I get that. But out of my morbid curiosity I want to hear everyone's English voices, not just Rayman's.

I'd like to see that too, and this should probably come with more variety in terms of enemies. I liked the pirates with homing missiles in Revolution, but it doesn't quite compare to the variety in Rayman 3.

For some reason to me it always sounded like some of the dialogue was recorded in a toliet bowl, especially in the opening cutscene, it has this really weird reverb to it.

I assume the reverb is Ly communicating telepathically

It's not Ly I'm talking about, I'm talking about Rayman and Globox in the titular 'great escape.'
