It's called soccer here because football here is a completely different sport, though there isn't a difference past the names.

Well since Australia is a member of the Commonwealth I guess it would be logical if they called it football. Don't know either though.

well, we're kind of half/half, alot of people are starting to call it football, but i prefer to call it soccer because football is what we usually call rugby.
as for being in the commonwealth, my history teacher believes that the federation of australia was britain's plan to keep them in the commonwealth.

frankly, i don't really consider myself to be part of the commonwealth, nobody i know gives a shit about britain. and yet we voted no to become a republic... politics make no sense.
