I'm concerned
I accidentally inhaled some burning plastic. I wont go into details, but I've heard that it could cause cancer. You don't think I could get cancer from this, do you?
Re: I'm concerned
Everything has been proven to give you cancer. :\ It's a wonder we don't ALL have cancer!

Best topic ever!
More seriously, the best you can do is open an encyclopaedia and read an article about cancer, it will help much more than any answer.

A good step to avoid cancer is not to smoke and eat many fruit/vegetables i've heard *takes bite from apple*
Re: I'm concerned
Cancer is caused by the uncontrolled growth of cells, usually due to faulty DNA replication. So basically, there is no direct enviromental cause of cancer. However, doing things such as smoking, and I suppose inhaling burning plastic, could in some way that I have no knowledge of disturb the DNA replication process and raise the risk of getting cancer. I'm neither a doctor nor a scientist, so I can't be 100% certain about this, but I can imagine inhaling a whiff of burning plastic won't do much to elevate your risk of getting any kind of cancer. If, however, you were working in an enviroment which regularly exposed you to fumes from plastics for a significant period of time, it would be a different story.
In short, you have no reason to be concerned.
