First time ever. Played a demo that came with an official PS1 magazine that had one of the early levels where you're following a pirate ship that shoots bomb things at you, but other than that no. Went from the original to Rayman 3 purely because i was about ten at the time and my parents didn't like the whole Video games type thing. So, this is my first time, heard nothing but praise from it on this forum so i had to buy it. Only £2 on amazon marketplace. :P

Bear in mind while playing that the PS1 version has many differences from the other versions of Rayman 2.

The PC version is the 'standard' one.
The N64 version is the same as the PC version, but with worse graphics and MIDI audio.
The DS version is the same as the N64 version, but worse in every way.
The GBC version is a completely different 2D game, and not very good.
The Dreamcast version is the same as the PC version, but they made lots of minor improvements and replaced the Hall of Doors with the Isle of Doors.
The iPhone and iPad versions are the same as the Dreamcast version, but are inferior in a few minor ways.
The PS2 remake is like the PC version but with the Hall replaced by a free-roaming hub, and lots of controversial alterations, additions and rearrangements.
The PS1 version is like the PC version, but lots of levels have been shrunk, altered or removed, and the game feels more linear and straightforward. There's lots of new dialogue with characters that don't speak in the other versions, a new boss before the second Mask, a different final boss-fight, a level from the cancelled 2D version of Rayman 2 (as a Rayman 1 fan, you should like that), and there are plenty of other minor changes.

Thanks, i'm guessing access to the Rayman 2 2D level is given after completion? It seems the PS1 version in other ways was the poor one then...

The PS1 version is also much harder, especially The Sanctuary Of Stone And Fire.

£2? Wow, I might buy it too then. I already own the PC and PS2 versions but I can't run the PC version anymore and as Spiraldoor said, the new changes in the PS2 version are controversial. Whilst the free-roaming hub is cool and all, I prefer the more linear and straight-forward Hall of Doors level select system.

And I believe you get the 2D bonus level once you've collected all of the lums (including the additional one in Razorbeard's tomb) but I could be wrong.

Razorbeard's tomb isn't in that version and he eats a red lum rather than a yellow one.

The 2D level is accessible at the end of the game if you have 720 or more lums.

720? There are 800 so with some re-play throughs i should get that. :)

I was lucky and got a very good condition one for 1p plus £1.99 postage. You can still get a good one for £5 inc P. Not bad. :) Try ebay as well.

If I remember correctly, one of the demos(this one with Fairy Glade level) was quite different than full game... There was a day in this level with fallen warship, right? I haven't played R2 for a few years but I think it changed into night in the normal game.

I don't think so. The demo is basically similar, except Rayman's facial expression and other small details. On the PS1 demo it is the Bayou level.

Yea, that's the level I'm stuck on. Can't figure out how to get the yellow-orb-thing across the lava on the plum.

Throw the orb up, then shoot at the plum. The orb will fall back into your hands and the plum will start bouncing back towards you. When the plum gets close enough, walk onto it. Then throw the orb up and shoot towards the camera.

Yeah good memories from the sanctuary of stone and fire :D I don't really understand why the game designers put the hardest level in the middle of the game..... i remember when i played it for the first time when i was like 6 it scared the crap out of me (the part where you have to kill the one eyed freak) then after that i was stuck on it for endless months. good memories :)

No way. The hardest level in the game was the Woods of Light. No doubt about it - and they put it at the beginning! The cheek. :mefiant:

Indeed - This place with 1 tree and Jano's buddy was scary, especially with this creepy music... :)

EDIT: And yes, I'm sure that there was a day in this night/evening level in Fairy Glade... :)

There are two of them in the PS1 version, they have a lot more health, its darker, and the music is even scarier. They actually spit fire in the PS1 version, and move in the pattern of an upside down star, moving from pillar to pillar. I think they can also grab you and swallow you if you get too close (In The Cave Of Bad Dreams in the DS version, they can, its actually pretty funny, as they have to push Rayman with their hands to keep him in their mouth, and they wipe their face afterwords), but I didn't try it.

Yeah the weird thing about the DS version was all of the music, it sounded kind of the same but the tunes where just different. that always annoyed me because the original tunes on the PC version and such were the best :D I always get flashbacks to my childhood when i play them

That's because the DS version is a lazy port of the N64 version, which can't play the same music as the PC version.
