VRAM Sprites, Learning Games
Hi there.
I managed to get the VRAM viewer application working, and started a playthrough, so I ripped this from the Swamps Flood Level.
Mirror At Photobucket
and I think I put all the tarayzan sprites onto this sheet...
I hope this is useful!

I started ripping from the Learning Games, and they are weird. They have quite a few odd differences.
In Rayman1 (PS1), most of the sprites were 8bit, while in the learning games, they are 4bit, maybe to save space in the memory. Most of the time this isn't all that noticeable though, although, when it is, the sprites look quite discoloured and ugly. (Edit: Sprite detail doesn't seem to be lowered in the Amazing Learning Games Win PC)
Instead of the backgrounds being accessed from a file, the backgrounds are loaded into the memory in the learning games. These backgrounds are also lower quality, and as they are a single image, don't allow parallex scrolling.
So, I managed to rip some backgrounds!
World Map
Unfortunately, the map dots are added to the background when they are loaded.
It should be possible to recover the original background, but its probably stored in some encrypted file.
So I started to remove these dots. There are still a lot though.
World Map 2
Most of the backgrounds are just lower quality Rayman 1 ones (edit: Amazing Learning Games Win PC Also seems to have these, at least in the demo), like so:

I'm not sure if this is a new background, or just horribly distorted.
There also seem to be some somewhat new backgrounds.
There are a lot more, but I didn't think they were worth ripping.
I haven't managed to get any of the sprites with the right color palette yet, but I can see that there's a lot of strange stuff.
Like that music sign is still loaded into the memory! As well as a bunch of stuff that (I think) only appears in the original game, like the boss icons. There also seems to be some new stuff that is never used (I think), like the Betilla icon thats used in Rayman Designer for the Mr. Dark spell cure.
EDIT: I didn't realise that this was used ingame somehow.
Its the bouncy, normal, and disappearing cloud sprites, although I haven't found the topper that goes on the disappearing clouds.

Yeah, it was really hard to rip and i haven't ripped all of his sprites as you can see.

I've never thought there could be a way to have those beautiful bakgrounds! Thank you !!! When I was a kid, I used to want to use one of the bandland Bg's for my bedroom wallpaper!
BTW, why does one of the Blue mountains BG's have silk contains hanging out of nowhere?

Not silk... aurorae. I had a bit of free time and decided to use it to the best of my abilities by ripping rayman from RRR for the Gameboy advance. keep in mind this is my first rip, and not only am i still ripping, but some of the sprites arent put together 100%, so if you see a bit of Rayman that looks out of place could you tell me.

Thanks StaceyW, that should help alot, although there are about twice more animations with hands then without.
Also, i decided to rip some misc. stuff from RRR GBA (and the magic orb from R3).

All of the Rayman sprites from the Rayman 1 preview flash game called Rayman Web-based:
These might be useful as their in higher colour quality then the GBA sprites and you don't have to piece them together like the PlayStation sprites. Doesn't have all the animations though so probably not fan game quality.
I've always wanted to rip the extra animations for Betilla and The Magician from Rayman Junior but no such luck because I can never get ePSXe to work

I'm surprised that nobody brought this up, but have you ever noticed that when Rayman pays the magician "Tings" that they're pink? Also note the blue white and golden blurs on these "tings". It looks like Rayman is paying the Magician in Electoons rather than tings in-game.

Yes, he is paying with Electoons, maybe the first idea was that Rayman should collect Electoons rather than tings.
My girlfriend should have a great pair of... eyes.
