iambored2006 wrote:Ah, yes, sorry I forgot. Europe is the center of the world, and therefore more than 3 fourths of the world's history is just something to be ignored when talking about religion. Obviously, you must ignore Islam, because it doesn't matter if there are more than one and a half billion adherents worldwide, because it's not Christianity. Does it matter that Hinduism precedented Christianity by thousands of years and is most likely the oldest still active faith system? No, because it doesn't play an important role in history! Sure, it has affected the world's second most populous country more than anything else did, but it's not Christianity. Judaism is the source of the world's biggest religions, and it is most likely the first truly monotheistic un-pagan religion, but because Christians and Muslims both believe in the "old" testament and their own holy books, it doesn't exist anymore.
European culture has influenced the world far more than any other, and so has Christianity in terms of religion. It doesn't matter which religion Christianity originates from, it doesn't matter which religions come close to Christianity in number of adherents, it doesn't matter which religions preceded Christianity, it doesn't matter which religions have forged the culture of the most populous countries. You're just listing random facts which can in no way be used to dispute the position of Christianity as the religion that most affected the world. If you want an accurate appreciation of its influence, take countries of Christian culture weighted by wealth—sad to say, but how do the millions of people living in slums affect the world compared to the wealthy few? Europe was the centre of the world for centuries; now America rules the world, European culture still does. And when China or India become the first economic powers, this will be through and by European culture, as the reasons for their demographic transition and worldwide exposure are, respectively, European medicine and capitalism—an economic system of European origin.
iambored2006 wrote:And if you are a Jew and you don't want to do these things, guess what? You go to hell. Oh, wait, Jews don't believe in hell, so how is that even possible?! Hell is Christians ancient technique to make people afraid of not believing.
In the Bible, the word Hell is used as a translation of Gehenna, which concept isn't far from that of the Christian Hell, given how much the latter is subject to interpretation.
iambored2006 wrote:And when have you ever seen a Rabbi forcing some Jews to give him money for religious purposes?! I have been a Jew all my life, my whole family consists of observant Jews, and guess what? We have never, ever, EVER been asked to give money for a religious cause. We have donated to synagogues out of our own free will. And no one asks us to donate money in the Sabbath, because money shouldn't be touched in Sabbath. Does that mean that if you go to the synagogue in a regular day, they will ask you to donate money or leave? No, because that's not how Judaism works.
One side of my family used to go to church every Sunday and they were never asked to give money either; they simply did it because they wanted to.
iambored2006 wrote:And another thing- Jews don't care if you're a Jew or not. Unlike Christianity, where if you dare not believe in Jesus you go to hell, in Judaism the gentiles are free to do almost (look up the seven laws of Noah) what they want.
Not only does one have to abstain from idolatry in order to be considered a righteous gentile, which means only atheism is tolerated in such circumstances, but in any case Gehenna is considered a purgatory for sinners in Rabbinic Judaism, and since the breaking of one of the 613 divine commandments is regarded as a sin, and those commandments include the worship of the Jewish God, that pretty much sets the path straight to Hell for non-Jews.
iambored2006 wrote:I have pointed out some differences between these religions, and I can point out dozens more. Hunch, you don't live a Jewish life. You don't study Judaism 18 hours a week. I have studied Christianity extensively and can tell that these religions are so far apart that without the help of history, you wouldn't think they had any connection. The biggest difference is that Judaism is a monotheistic religion while Christianity, at least in some of its denominations, is a polytheistic religion. I am eager to hear what you have to say on the subject.
What are you trying to achieve through ad hominem arguments like that? I'm a goy so you have to know better than me? You have studied Christianity—or, more accurately, what you have been taught of it—but couldn't I have studied Judaism myself? If I happen to say something wrong about it, let me know, explain why, and the discussion will be all the more enriching.
As far as I remember, all your claims on the subject have been debunked and proven to be nothing more than bigoted narrow-mindedness. This one will not be an exception: I suppose you are referring to the Holy Trinity, which defines God as three consubstantial persons, therefore only one being. This has nothing to do with polytheism, which is the belief in multiple divine beings, so your knowledge of Christianity might not be so extensive.
Once again, I'm not saying that there are no differences between those two religions. I'm just highlighting the fact that most of your criticism towards Christianity can be applied to Judaism as well.

[COUGH]

Typically ones saying Christianity is polytheistic refer to the saints. As a Roman Catholic, I absolutely see confusion here, but throwing out the saints is a bit like throwing out Moses from Judaism I suppose. He's there for a reason, but this does not mean he is treated as a god. (Yes, I know, there ARE some people finding saints demigods of a kind; still it's not like every Jew interpretes Judaism "correctly".)

Actually, I went through the whole conversation from the very beginning and no, you did not warn me. And you two and DesLife need to use your sense of humour. I didn't get the joke in the Furfags topic, so I guess we're even :) . Also, It did tell me when the ban's over.

Don't worry about it, i'm not answering him.
What's that supposed to mean, RayTunes?

Now, before I reply to you, Hunch, I just want to say- thank you! For actually replying to what I was saying in a reasonable way. At some point in the argument, both sides stopped answering reasonably and that's why it was such a disaster.
To answer what you said, it is not European culture but European power that has affected the world so much. I'm talking about the colonies. You may not like it, but your countries did go to places and ruin other cultures. At some point, you will have to admit that. And BTW, Islam has affected the world just as much as Christianity. You are right about how China and India will "rule the world", but it's only because of what I said earlier. European and western culture became what they are because of those things.

Regarding Gehenna, that's exactly what I'm talking about- you have to live a Jewish life in Israel to understand those things. You see, Gehenna is a peculiar abbreviation of the name- "Gay Ben Hinnom" which means "Valley of the son of Hinnom". I've been to this valley dozens of times, and obviously burned there for all eternity. Seriously, though, the reason it is considered a place where sinners will be punished (not in any metaphysical way...) is because the kings of Jerusalem used to sacrifice their children to another god besides Elohim, the Molech. You can se it all in the Bible.
However, some Jews do believe in hell, but it is the Christian hell. There is no actual Jewish hell.
What I said about the money part was in reply to an idiotic thing someone said. Of course not all Churches take money, I just pointed it out in comparison to Judaism.
You are completely right about the seven laws of Noah thing. It did bug me for a while, that certain law about idolatry. At first I didn't believe people who told me it's one of the laws. However, no Jew ever believes these things, so they're practically just a philosophical part of Judaism.
Lastly, what I was trying to say was that you would know better about Judaism if you'd live it all your life and study it all your life. Maybe you do know a lot about Judaism, I don't know. Correction- I have been taught nothing of Christianity. It's sort of a taboo around here. You don't know what I had to go through to get a copy of the new testament.
About the polytheism part, I was referring to both the Trinity part of it and the story with the Saints. According to your logic regarding the Holy Trinity, Hinduism is also monotheistic. You see, according to Hinduism, all gods are the incarnations of one god. Let's welcome our new, best so far, trio of big monotheistic religions- Christianity, Islam and Hinduism!!!

Yes, I was also referring to the saints. However, Moses is not in a godlike position nor is he worshipped in any way. There are a few Jews who sort of worship big "Tsadikim". That is, famous rabbis. It's disgusting- they go to their graves and bow to them!!! Most Jews don't like that kind of behaviour.
