That's suprisingly wonderful. How many years did it take us again?

Nine years later, and one person solves the mystery? This is both sad and amazing, I'm crying two sets of tears at the same time.

Only eight. Not quite as impressive as the Tomb of the Ancients secret, which took eleven if my calculations are correct.Rulez wrote:That's suprisingly wonderful. How many years did it take us again?

Well, eight and eleven months, since the game came out at the beginning of 2003.spiraldoor wrote:Only eight
By the TotA secret, do you mean the one right near the end where you jump up into the hidden cave?
Re: Unlocking 2D Nightmare [L.M. Murphy did it! =D]
You're right. Not only did the Tomb secret take more years, we had no indication to its existence and found it by accident, if I remember correctly.spiraldoor wrote:Only eight. Oh my god... This is fantastic! I wanted since a good while to adquire the R3 GBA version to do a little more investigation but I guess someone managed to find it first. You know what, L.M. Murphy? You're awesome. If you tell us how you did it to unlock the level, I'll reward you with 1000 Tings.

If he tells us, we should beg Hunch to allow Murphy the Polokus rank.

I think he's the ghost of Christmas Past. He's revealed the possibility of the secret, and now shall never return.
Re: Unlocking 2D Nightmare [L.M. Murphy did it! =D]
I'm pretty sure he hacked the GC version of R3 in Dolphin, because if you guys look well, Rayman never dies and his HP bar stands still at the minimum.RayFan9876 wrote:I think he's the ghost of Christmas Past. He's revealed the possibility of the secret, and now shall never return.
Recording footage of the gameplay of 2D Nightmare is not enough, we want the procedure of unlocking it (if it wasn't really scrapped) which is the most important thing at the moment.

So why has no one opened up Dolphin and done this? Invincibility and unlockability hacks aren't exactly hard to execute.Haruka wrote:I'm pretty sure he hacked the GC version of R3 in Dolphin, because if you guys look well, Rayman never dies and his HP bar stands still at the minimum.RayFan9876 wrote:I think he's the ghost of Christmas Past. Have you actually hacked before? You talk like you know how to do that but I don't think you really do. It's not as easy as you'd think, especially with a game running inside an emulator.RayFan9876 wrote:So why has no one opened up Dolphin and done this? Indeed I have, though I did that sort of stuff back in 2006 and 2007, and I virtually haven't touched it since.Drolpiraat wrote:Have you actually hacked before? so do you think he used cheat engine or something like thatRayFan9876 wrote:Indeed I have, though I did that sort of stuff back in 2006 and 2007, and I virtually haven't touched it since.Drolpiraat wrote:Have you actually hacked before? I think Cheat Engine could work, though that's not how I did it. Mind you I only tried things out on Kirby Air-Ride, Super Mario Sunshine and F-Zero GX.that3Dguy wrote:so do you think he used cheat engine or something like that

Did you actually hack those games yourself or just use pre-made codes?RayFan9876 wrote:I think Cheat Engine could work, though that's not how I did it. I don't think Cheat Engine would work well with Dolphin by the way as every version is different and it works differently every time you change even one setting.
Dolphin has a built-in Cheat Search function that works similarly though.

Re: Unlocking 2D Nightmare [L.M. Murphy did it! =D]
Sort of half-and-half. At first I used a lot of pre-made codes, and then I started learning how to do it myself. Unfortunately I never got too deep into it due to some personal occupancies.Drolpiraat wrote:Did you actually hack those games yourself or just use pre-made codes?RayFan9876 wrote:I think Cheat Engine could work, though that's not how I did it. Oh well. So we know what the thing is, but we don't know how to unlock it, right?
...we may hopefully just wait for the interview, then.

Re: Unlocking 2D Nightmare [L.M. Murphy did it! =D]
I'm actually finding this rather selfish of L.M. Murphy. We've been trying to figure this out for almost nine years. Now we have someone who's "solved" the mystery and he doesn't show his face. Perhaps he did just hack it open, but I'm not going to jump to conclusions.
