A Town Called Mercy, my favourite of the new series so far.

It was good, but I think I still like the Asylum of the Daleks better so far, if only because I like the Daleks as a character. I liked how the Doctor finally showed some emotion concerning the Time War; Tennant's series had him falling over it constantly and it gave a good and varied face to this otherwise calm and merciful person. I felt like they've been unintentionally avoiding the matter with Smith, but it seems they've noticed that too now. I hope Alex Kingston stars in an episode soon. I always like those best. The chemistry between the two actors is very good - it's not too over-the-top, it's funny and it works (at least for me).

Like I've said before, I don't know why, but I just felt something was missing in Asylum, and yet I can't figure it out.
I do like that they're beginning to explore Smith's take on the darker side of the Doctor, and he's doing a pretty good job of it actually.
As for River Song, well, she's slated to appear in Episode 5, and I agree, the chemistry between Song and the Doctor is pretty good, though not all agree.

The Power of Three is definitely in the same vein as RTD-era eps, which is nice, since I was missing some of the large-scale invasion episodes. I do like the return of UNIT, and having their leader being the daughter of the ol' Brig was nice too.
I did like the tender moment that Amy and the Doctor did have, it's a good reminder of what the characters mean to each other prior to the events of next week.

I've noticed all new episodes have been written by the same guy so far. Although I enjoy them as an episode, I do not at all enjoy them as a Doctor Who episode. I don't know exactly what it is, but something's missing. It may be the camerawork - it all seems a bit zany at times. Also, last episode ended so abruptly it was just absurd. One moment you're introducing the bad guy, a character from the Time Lords' past, then the next, only seconds after, suddenly all's well that ends well and see you next week. I did like the Doctor and Amy scene you described, but I can't comment on the rest you said; I don't watch the spoilers. I do so very much like not knowing what to expect.

I agree, they've taken this whole "blockbuster movie" thing a bit too far, I hope it isn't a permanent fixture, while I like having more individual episodes, I do miss some of the grander two-parters (not saying all two-parters were good, just that I'd like to have more thorough stories).

It's not necessarily the length that bothers me - it's the style. Look at some of Tennant's best one-parters. Waters of Mars was an excellent one, and that was a one-parter. But I see what you mean. I just hope they get better later on in the series; these ones with Smith have the tendency to do that.

Waters of Mars was a special, and it had more time to tell it's tale with.
What bothers me is that these episodes are trying to tell a "movie-scope" story in 45 minutes.

Yeah. They need to be more like series and less like they're trying to be the series' equivalent of a blockbuster movie. Things aren't blockbusters because you make them to look like one. They are blockbusters when they're good at being good.

"The Angels Take Manhattan" was probably the best written of the five, River returns, the Angels seem scary, and Rory and Amy depart on a high note.
Their were hints of the "blockbuster" theme, but it wasn't as overbearing and this episode felt more like the episodes from previous series.

I havn't been paying attention to spoilers or anything but is this really it? We're moving on now? While I was watching the episode I was thinking to myself "Here we go again with the dramatic death talks" but then at the end it turned out to be true. It just feels weird if this is it. Maybe I was too blind but I don't feel like I saw any foreshadowing to this episode. It just happened out of the blue.

I knew it was going to happen, given me and my like for spoilers, but I think that there were hints at the impending fate of the Ponds, the biggest IMO, being the Doctor and Amy moment back in last episode.

I guess so. The scene with their father made me think that the two would be accompanying the Doctor for more adventures to come. Oh well, I was hoping they'd leave for a while now. I just don't think I'm a fan of this scenario since it kind of hurts the chances of an ex-companion reunion/cameos like previous instances.

The actors claimed that they were done with Doctor Who for good.
Besides, considering the odd plot points it has, some wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey excuse could be brought up to bring them back if such a thing is wanted.
In the meantime, we have a new companion to look forward to, I already know who the actor is, but for the sake of spoilers, I'll keep it quiet.

What got you into watching Doctor Who? I remember I hid my parents mini portable tv fom them one night and decided to watch some late night shows under the bed. I changed the channels and stopped where I saw Mickey running from a trash can or something. All I remember is that his head became plasticy/weird/freaky and I got scared and decided to not watch tv late at night again. Then I'm not sure when, but I decided to watch late night tv again and it was the episode where The Doctor and Rose were on a ship and meet the Face of Bo and a bunch of aliens. I was hooked from that point. I was pretty amazed when I realized the scary scene from before was from Doctor Who. It made me appreciate Mickey's character a lot more. It's just a shame that he didn't get a lot of focus back then compared Rory today.
