Re: Rayman Legends
I was wondering if you were an Oddworld fan when I read your username. Slogs are such nasty creatures (Not as much as Fleeches).
Re: Rayman Legends
Well your wondering was spot on! I would go into detail about how much I love the games, but this thread doesn't seem to be the best place to do so. (Fleeches are very nasty creatures, but so fantastic all the same.)
Re: Rayman Legends
We have a topic about Oddworld in the Off-Topic forums, try to look for it.
Re: Rayman Legends
That is indeed sad - however, it only shows how much of a friend she really was to you. The actual Kingdom Hearts games have no role in that, so I hope you don't blame it on them.Haruka wrote:It reminds me an ex-friend I had many years ago. We used to talk a lot and from a moment to another she gets sickly hooked to the KH games *cough* better saying to Sora *cough* and universe, and completely changed her personality and behaving at a point she acted like if she didn't know me (especially for the fact I didn't find KH anything extraordinary, and felt more like a random crossover for me). I gave her chances of proving that we still had a friendship but she didn't grab the chances. I decided to stay away from her forever and leave her happy with the games. She didn't seem bothering, since I never more heard about her. Sad.
Of course not. Would Rayman 2 have a fanbase at all if it was just a fanfic of Rayman 1? Would Paper Mario have a fanbase if it was just a fanfic of Mario?Haruka wrote:I don't want to sound mean but I would like to see if the popularity was the same if KH wasn't existing as a game but the whole story itself being a fanfic of a crossover between FF and Disney.
Games do not "take control" over the players' lives. Maybe the fanbase does, but that's just because people are stupid enough to let them.Rayfist wrote:Clearly the person wasn't a true friend towards you if she let Kingdom Hearts take control over her life, to the point where she acts completely different towards you.
Again, this has nothing to do with the games. If anything, the games encourage the player to cherish friendship above everything else.Rayfist wrote:I just can't stand Kingdom Hearts and what it does to people, all the friendships that it ruins for people... all over a videogame. Just shows how ridiculous the fanbase has got.
Kingdom Hearts 1 is a story about a boy who goes on a journey through different worlds, gradually learning the true value of friendship - and is there a better way to learn that than by reliving Disney experiences, which all taught you exactly the same thing? It's the very reason why they decided to put them together and if you actually play the game, you'll see that it works pretty well! You even get some nostalgia out of it. During the game, he makes so many new friends in all the worlds he visits, that he gets more and more confident - stronger of heart. In the end, it is thanks to them ("My friends are my power!") that he manages to defeat the great (symbolic) evil that took his two best friends from him. Enough friendship for you yet?
Overall, Kingdom Hearts 1 was a fantastic experience. But just like modern Square-Enix always does, they made a big mistake with the sequels - the story became way too convoluted. Kingdom Hearts 2 was great (but not nearly as fantastic as Kingdom Hearts 1) but you had to have played the first game and a side story. The rest of the games aren't worth playing, in my opinion. The stories are insane now and just not enjoyable anymore.
Kingdom Hearts (the first) is not just a simple crossover between Final Fantasy and Disney. If you look at it as a story on its own, I think you'll like it. Not only the story in it is great if you manage to grasp the story "behind" the story, but the overall atmosphere in various places is top-notch. The writing is superb, and some of the music is better than Rayman music will ever get. But I talk too much, the trailer already illustrates this perfectly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVXGKfxWAI4
So, to everyone who hates on KH here and has never even finished the first game: shut the hell up and go give it a try.
Re: Rayman Legends
You can bet, but I don't ever regret the decision I took since I never missed her. She also didn't go look for me and even if she did, it was too late. In the meantime I found much more worth and true friends, that really matter to me than ever.Drolpiraat wrote: That is indeed sad - however, it only shows how much of a friend she really was to you
Droolie is right. This could have happened with any other game, but I can't deny she did disappoint me. Afterall she was also much more interested in her new friends that were also obecessive fans of the game.Rayfist wrote:I just can't stand Kingdom Hearts and what it does to people, all the friendships that it ruins for people... all over a videogame. But at least I gave a shot to the games, but they aren't really my style of game. It doesn't even mean that by not liking its a bad game. Not everybody likes platformers either, or even Rayman.

Re: Rayman Legends
I can't deny that the story is heartwarming, but having Disney characters so nonchalantly come forth in the game like this just feels phoned in and out of place to me. They know they're asking for fangasms at every turn, when they could have just as well come up with their own characters. It seems like more of a developer's personal story than something actually original.
It's a shame too, since I really wanted to like this game. The game just feels so utterly self-indulgent though.

Re: Rayman Legends
I never really got to play the Kingdom Hearts games, I played the original when I was seven, but video games didn't make much sense to me at all back then. Like I used to not like Rayman Arena, but now it's one of my favorite competitive games.

@Drolpiraat
I actually had ment fanbase, I own Kingdom Hearts I and II myself, it's not a bad game, far from it, it's just the fanbase as you said... it's so... controlling, over others minds it seems. I do own Kingdom Hearts I and got close to beating it, but similar to Haruka, it is not my kind of game.
But I do apoligise since I was mostly talking out of my ass here, Kingdom hearts plays well, and plays fine, but as said, just not my kind of game, I let the fanbase take too much control of my opinion towards it, it seems. So I hope that last sentence wasn't referred to me, considering the fact I've played KH1. Overall, I think Kingdom Hearts plays greatly, but similar to Adsolution here, I TRIED to get into it, I want to get into it, but right when nearing the end, it just isn't my thing. No lies here though, the environments they deliver through out the game are stunning as hell, but again, just isn't my game, I just can't stand the fanbase who take things too far. Who knows? I may actually try to finish it, it's still laying around here...

Re: Rayman Legends
I'd almost think that Legends is a Guitar Hero clone.
Re: Rayman Legends
@Squiz Good finding!
@Rayfist As I said before, I did attempt to get into it by giving a shot to the games, but its really useless. Its like Sonic, people can't convince me in getting into his games, even if I love platformers. I have reasons for that, and I can say that the only games I can actually play are the Mega Drive ones.

Do you see what I mean? I'm not TRYING to tackle at Kingdom Hearts, it's just not for me.Haruka wrote:@Squiz Good finding!

But we should hop back on Rayman Legends.

Re: Rayman Legends
A little defensive, no? I'm sure someone doesn't have to milk every last bit of a game to pass judgement on it. I played through about 2/3 of the first game, and I really didn't enjoy it enough to actually bring myself to finish it. I don't hate Kingdom Hearts, but I don't really like it.Drolpiraat wrote:So, to everyone who hates on KH here and has never even finished the first game: shut the hell up and go give it a try.

Re: Rayman Legends
I played the Rayman Legends demo from start to finish at Best Buy yesterday. I had a really fun time, unfortunately the Wiimote was out of batteries, so all I had was the gamepad. But playing as Murfy was a lot more fun than I had anticipated.

Th-That.. that comment wasn't solid in any particular way... I just... I just don't give a shit about KH... sorry Drool. We didn't say it was a bad game... we said we dislike it.Drolpiraat wrote:So, to everyone who hates on KH here and has never even finished the first game: shut the hell up and go give it a try.
Back on topic I like the Steelbook... but I think the concept of hard rock is getting a bit overused for a game that is supposed to be medieval... I mean, it's Rayman Fucking Legends... It's like Skyrim started using dubtep in their advertisements.
