I've had that same glitch before. I've learned to tame it and make it appear at will.

Does anyone think if enough people requested a remix project of Rayman 2 at OCRemix, they would make one? I'm only asking because I am disappointed that there is only one Rayman remix at OCRemix.

I saw someone playing Rayman 2 on his laptop during a lecture today. It made my day.

He kept failing at the walking shell part in Sanctuary of Stone and Fire which was absolutely hilarious.

Ah, that segment to this very day is one of those where loss of health is a certainty, luckily, the devs made the (convenient) mistake of having reappearing red lums in the loop-de-loop (I think they were there, not 100% sure, but there were definitely reappearing red lums), so I didn't get any Try Agains.

I'm not sure if they were mistakes, Master. Remember that most gaming devs are not monsters and still want their players to enjoy the playthrough of their game. Imagine hitting a Game Over at that point - you'd have to play the entirety of the insides of that temple from scratch! That would be a rather unforgiving and cruel joke adding to the bitterness of your repetitive failure at one part of the level.

I remember finding it near to impossible to pass that section when I was younger. When I finally managed to do it, I was above myself with joy. Nowadays, I like it still, but am sad that it isn't longer - I would have loved the extended dodging, looping, jumping and boosting around a track like that for a while. Luckily I have my own game to make up for that. ... ;)

I once got the Shell to bounce off one of the walls after I had jumped off it, causing it to richochet and walk over the lava, onto the wall, over the ceiling, around, right through the air (yes, it was walking in mid-air) with a slight angle, eventually crashing into the wall opposite the first one.

I know, there's no denying that it's probably no mistake, and that I should have put suspiciously convenient in the brackets, but hey, I'm only human.
Messing around with the walking shell can be entertaining, though at the same time, the darn thing kept on crashing right near the end, at the critical jump.

You should see the shell ride in the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire in the PS1 version. If you make even one mistake, you die, it is not optional in this version, and there are yellow lums to collect.

My good fellow, the PS1 version of Rayman 2 was my first version.
I don't recall it being that bad, I thought it was rather simple, though I must admit, I usually use the D-Pad for that segment.

The true Hero of Light's mastery of the Walking Shell arises at this moment of precision and agile dexterity.

Yeah. It still very hard the first few times you do it, though. The Sanctuary of Stone and Fire as a whole is harder in the PS1 version than the other versions, though. It is even longer than the other versions (It includes new parts of the level and has no optional parts), and even has a tough boss at the end.

Excellent! I will most definitely be trying to get my hands on one of those copies, then.

It is in the PSN store, in the Classics section.

I only own an actual PS1, so I'll have to find an actual disc for this to work. ;)

I plan after finishing the remastering of Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc (PC), to remaster from scratch the R2TGE (PS1) walkthrough since the audio needs improvement in the quality. It will be nice to enjoy again the interesting exclusivities from this port that I particularly like even if the game is shorter than the other versions.

Even though it is shorter, it is certainly harder.

I only consider particularly harder the Walking Shell section of the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire and the final battle with Razorbeard, which is definitely different. For the first level mentioned, the D-Pad takes time to transfer the response to the game, and steering in that tricky area with the Yellow Lums can be a little frustrating if you haven't this detail in mind; for the second level, if you do not lure well the shark-alike rockets to the Grolgoth, the battle can be very very long and tiring. The energy sphere barely do damage.

I never really found the psx version of R2 to be that difficult. The only parts that made the game really hard at times were the camera angles which would some times make it really difficult to tell where you were going. Riding the shells took a bit of getting used to because the controls are so sensitive but once you get the hang of it it's not bad. In Whale Bay, all you had to do was attack any time a piranha started swimming close by so they didn't steal the air bubbles.

If we can point a defect in R2, its the camera itself. Although it rarely happened with me, sometimes the camera doesn't help you to know where to go but its also a matter of habit. Sadly BG&E and R3HH are worse in this aspect.

It's strange because I never even noticed how bad the camera in R3HH was until I played through the HD remake early last month. It messed up the direction I was running or attacking in more often than I liked, and as a result screwed up a few of my combos. On the upside, it's a little easier to reset the camera in R3HH than R2.

Also, Haruka, do you know if R2 for the psx has compatibility issues with the PS2 slim? I was playing it recently and in The Bayou every time there were rolling barrels a sound glitch would occur. The sound of the rolling barrels would loop and follow me wherever I went, playing over the music and other sfx and playing when I paused the game as well. The sound of rolling barrels would continue long after I left an area with them. It's pretty annoying.
