Somehow... I don't.

For what I've seen so far, Rayman Legends looks like the big freaking deal, Rayman isn't that "crazy" anymore, and the artstyle is more focused on beauty than... well, 90's cartoons. The silliness is still there, but in a more traditional way, and thank god there's no magic boobies involved (so far). I know I'm a guy and I'm supposed to "like" that but I don't know... for a Rayman game, sex appeal just seems to ruin the whole experience.

Also, with such a deep backstory, the Magician had big potential to become a great villain, but well, the developers simply wanted to play it safe and not even make a final boss battle.

Alrighty, just sketched 'er quickly. I apologize for the quality, still no scanner. This is just a fan idea of mine on what the villain should be. Of course it's not canon. Just that speculation is fun.
The unnamed psychotic lady, simply referred to as The Witch, in contrast to The Magician, is not just a powerful practicer of witchcraft, but also the artist behind the paintings left to the forest. She was raised in a family of Mr. Dark's supporters, so for all her life she was taught to hate the good. The Magician soon meets her and sees her creating portals through the paintings. He asks for affiliation with her, but The Witch refuses after learning about his failure to defeat Rayman. She has no understanding of what is good and what is bad, so she thinks that Rayman's actions are evil and destroying him would be the right and heroic thing to do. However, The Witch absolutely despises The Magician, calling him powerless, unintelligent and inferior. Her plan to destroy Rayman is to trick him to one of the magical paintings. What Rayman doesn't know is that he and his friends are in the danger of getting trapped to one of the parallel worlds forever after The Witch closes the portal. She masters everything that happens in the worlds, such as the evil creatures that she spawns by painting them, and when Rayman's gang would be trapped, she would release a massive chaos to the world by painting even more destructive monsters and objects. So Rayman has to find a way out, which of course he does, because no downer endings.
And then something else also happens, 'tis just a start of all the ideas I have stored in my mind. I don't exactly know what to do with The Magician, but he is also included in this holabaloo.

I can totally imagine Adsoul ripping your head off. :hinhin:

Well, I'll be honest... when I read the first 3 sentences, I knew I was going to dislike it. I disliked it. I don't like to be mean when fanfiction is created, but I really can't say anything positive about this... the sidestory is just too dramatic for a Rayman game, and giving it so many connections can also confuse newcomers to the franchise who don't know who the balls are Mr Dark or the Magician (which could be the reason why Mr Dark isn't even explained in Origins... probably the developers expected that only true fans could find out by research, without confusing newcomers and just making the magician look like a regular traitor).

I can't even say that the concept is creative.... A witch that locks the main heroes into a painting? well heck, where did I hear that before?

Sorry, again, I didn't want to sound mean, but the whole thing is a little too cheesy.

Thanks for the critique, I appreciate it. Not mean at all, yo. Also, I seriously didn't know about that character. I've never played Kirby.

No, the sidestory is too dramatic for ANY Rayman game. Of course the culture must be deep, that's one of the most important assets for a great franchise. That's why we probably know so much from Rayman 2, but if you analize the game itself, there's no dept to it. Rayman must save his friends from an evil Robo-Pirate by collecting a bunch of masks, it hurts but that's the whole thing. Do we even know Razorbeard's motivations to be evil? why does he need so much power? what created Razorbeard? where did he come from? heck, how did he even catch Rayman and getting him into his jail? Oh, maybe he has a teenager love story with a beautiful toaster, but then he discovered that the toaster was pregnant because it had sex with Mr Dark while Razorbeard was going on a vacation with the Rabbids. Then he became evil.

... The point is that there's no sidestory.

The fuck no? Stop placing conditions that don't exist and where there logically are none.

You judge Rayman Legends, a game that hasn't even been released, just because Origins took a silly direction, even when Rayman Legends seems a shitload more serious and focused. I'm sorry, but I had to make a response at such bogus. Also, I'm sick of people saying that Rayman used to be deeper... when that's not true :boon:

Sorry but technically Rayman use to be deeper indeed. Not by a whole lot, but for fuck's sake compare Rayman 2 to Origins. Rayman 2 has a great great great story while Origins has boobs and then things happen somehow?

It was indeed deeper. What's so bad about putting some tiny littledrama? And that wasn't even that tearjerkingly sad to begin with.

The game's files, my friend... the game's files... and the risk of experimenting with communication by gibberish.

When was I doing that? :boon: I was talking about how there's no invisible restriction on how deep a Rayman game can or should be.
sergiomonty wrote:just because Origins took a silly direction, even when Rayman Legends seems a shitload more serious and focused.
When did I ever make that comparison any time in the remotely recent past? :boon:

Sure, Rayman was never that deep, but Origins has no depth whatsoever. Both the second and third games had an understandable narrative, and the plot turns logically affect the story. Also, the characters showed emotion - those points alone are enough to justify the fact that the previous games had more depth than Origins.

Yeah but shouldn't we value only the finished game in this context?

Just to pop-out of the main discussion for a sec.
Is that Catherine Tate in Horrible Histories? I've never seen that ep.
EDIT: Never mind, looked at it up close, though a good lookalike from afar, or my eyesight has failed me again.

Heh, most of the history of the Glade is in the manual of Rayman 2, not the game, so we are in sort of a similar deal. The only difference is that the files were fucking hard to get (thanks again, Droolie!)

Yes, most, but you could play Rayman 2 with no manual and no knowledge of the game and still notice a story with quite a lot of things going on, like meeting people like Clark or Globox, defeating the guardians and obtaining the four masks of Polokus, while in Rayman Origins you go right and jump.
