Dark Shadows, as opposed to those bright, illuminating shadows.

Re: Movies you just recently watched
I haven't seen Sweeney. Alice, while the visual style is great, isn't that great of a movie. At least, that's what everyone says; I tend to think that it was pretty good and immensely creative. Edward Scissorhands is one of my favourite movies of all time (also holding my favourite soundtrack of all time), and being from 1990, this is a very fresh Tim Burton.saerleiya wrote:I haven't watched Sweeney, Alice in wonderland and Edward yet but I must give them a try to see if they are really good.
It was alright. The character development was a bit above average for your ordinary animated film and it starts off very strong, but the whole third act is a piece of shit that completely ruins everything that came before it. I know I've mentioned this before, but this is also what I thought of Paranorman, except I thought that Paranorman started as what could have been the greatest film of the year, but as soon as the zombies showed up, it just went eeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhh.saerleiya wrote:About Tim Burton's movies, did someone here see Frankenweenie ? The only things I know about it are that is a remake of an old movie and the plot.

Space Jam for the lulz. Even though the story probably is just Michael Jordan on a bad acid trip and is never funny unless you're a 5-year old, the animation of the characters is really good. I used to love this movie when I was a kiddo, but only paid attention when the Looney Tunes were on screen.
Re: Movies you just recently watched
Watched the first 2 Jurassic Park movies fort he first time in like forever, the first superior but the Lost world was decent. That put me in the dino spirit ,to which I then proceeded to watch The Land Before Time, however looking up the movie on IMDB led me to find out about the disturbing demise of Ducky's voice actor...

It's also good to note she was the voice of Anne-Marie in All Dogs go to Heaven. She had one of those one-of-a-kind voices, and I still to date have never heard a better young child voice actor.
Re: Movies you just recently watched
Very talented indeed, for her age she was amazing
Ahh god I remember that film too,I suddenly have the urge to watch a handful of non-Disney animated movies from the late 80s- early 2000s, among them being the Iron Giant which I watched again a couple of years ago and nearly teared up, that movies a masterpiece. I used to be scared shitless of the Giant, especially that scene when Hogarth discovers him in the forest.. though I love re-watching them now and viewing them in a totally different manner noticing subtleties and references that obviously went over my head as a kid
Another one I remember briefly was called Titan A.E, haven't seen that in like 12 years
By the way, I remember a good few of the land before time sequels, what is your opinion on them, is there any that are as good as the first and any that are noticeably horrific?

The Land Before Time is indeed a fantastic movie I remember to have watched as a kid. I should rewatch it at some point.

As far as animated sequels go, there's absolutely, one-hundred percent nothing bad about them, they just seem geared to something of a younger audience. As someone who knows all the sequels like the back of my hand, I'd have to say the fourth (Journey through the Mists) where Littlefoot meets Ali would be my favourite of the sequels:Bzzit wrote:By the way, I remember a good few of the land before time sequels, what is your opinion on them, is there any that are as good as the first and any that are noticeably horrific?
It's really quite a touching film; they're young kids, so it's almost a Romeo & Juliet story except it isn't love, it's simply an affectionate friendship with an incredible atmosphere, touching on the fact that while Littlefoot has a lot of great friends, he's still somewhat lonely being the only longneck around. The parents don't hate eachother either, they have legitimate reasons to disagree and keep them apart.
Not that I'm trying to make it sound like an overtly mature movie, because it's obviously made for the under-ten age group, but the thing that makes the Land Before Time sequels so decent are morals brought through them. What makes it better is the fact that a lot of the morals presented in these movies aren't ones you would commonly expect, but are still just as elementary; the kinds of morals we pick up more within our subconscious. While the director may not have the vision of Don Bluth, they still have a lot of heart and soul, which is rare among animated sequels.
Unfortunately, after about the eighth sequel (which is an amazing length still) it started to turn into much more of a cash-in franchise.

Oblivion. As hated as it is by critics, I remained positive about this movie, and I wasn't not displeased. Oblivion took its world very seriously. The landscape is incredible, and the way Cruise interacts with it perfects it. It was full of suspense, mystery, action, plot twists, and many, many brilliant scenes. Admittedly, story is not the strongest out there, but everything just works so well, that honestly, I didn't mind. I definitely understand the dislike towards the movie, and to be honest, Oblivion isn't really all that good of a movie. It borrows too much from other movies, and doesn't bring anything new to the table, but that doesn't keep from enjoying every bit of it. Guilty pleasure, yes, but a damn good guilty pleasure

By any chance, did you watch Film Brain's review of the movie on ThatGuyWithTheGlasses? The reason I cite him specifically is because it seems like your points of criticism were almost his, word for word.
This isn't a criticism of your critique in the slightest, just an observation.

Awesome, I remember brief segments from them though I cant differentiate them at all, I recall the one where chomper hatches from the egg quite clearly as well, might have been the second film and also as one where Petries dad (or uncle?) returns or something, the plot was about a group of dinosaurs moving away and getting killed or something and near the end Littlefoot saves Ducky from falling down a cliff... shit my memory sucks

The Truman Show. My favourite movie. Sadly the movie does feel a bit dated, making the concept a little bit unbelievable at times, but I have no problem imaging myself in the time it came out and having an equally good experience. Would love to see what a modern take on the story would be like, but I highly doubt the final product would match the performance of the original.
Also saw Wicked. Not a movie but we haven't got a musical thread around here. It was... OK.

Heheh, I thought the Wicked stage production was a total piece of shit.
I remember watching The Truman Show a long time ago, but I barely remember anything. Of course I know the story (who doesn't), but I think it's time for me to give it another go!

Watched a short movie yesterday night, named "Lápis Azul". The censorship was not a novelty for me but I didn't know it was going that far by censoring possible crossword combinations.
And I watched "The Cat" and jesus christ, I'm glad I was doing other stuff at the same time.

I honestly can't disagree much. Despite having tired humour that you can find in just about any other musicial, I thought the first half at least was interesting and kept me wanting to watch, but damn, the second half was an absolute fuck up. Boring, long scenes that added nothing to the story and songs that seemed like they only existed to fill in time. Very, very average musical. How the hell did this get so praised?Adsolution wrote:Heheh, I thought the Wicked stage production was a total piece of shit.
I watch it every year. Carrey's character and acting to go along with it makes it feel real. It's the pure simplicity of a "What if my life...?" question and then seeing how someone would handle and react to the situation that makes it so interesting. The only thing that's a little disappointing is that it seems that even though these actors supposedly live their life on this TV show and are around Truman almost every day, they still act surprised and clueless by everything he does.Adsolution wrote:I remember watching The Truman Show a long time ago, but I barely remember anything. Re: Movies you just recently watched
With Legally Blonde being what public considers to be the epitome of stage productions, when something one percent more original such as Wicked comes up (which clearly isn't saying much), it is praised to no end. Out of all the mainstreams for each entertainment form around today, I think that musical theatre has the worst mainstream. - I don't really care that that grammar makes no sense, I'm too tired to think.Keane wrote:I honestly can't disagree much. Haha, I have nothing to add to that. Die Kinder des Monsieur Mathieu :") The best movie ever! I think the English Title is 'The Chorus'. This movie really touched my heart.

Iron Man 3. I absolutely loved this just as much as the first one. Iron Man 2's okay, in my opinion. I don't hate it as much as everyone else, but it does have a lot of problems. The Mandarin was also amazing. No spoilers, but you'll know it when you see it.
