MY ASS it's how it should be done. Crash of the Titans is awful and extremely poorly recieved by many.

sorry i've been gone for a few days! anyway, to bring up something on RL, i've been wondering something. late last year, in an interview with michel, he stated that there would be a new character for each world, and barbara would be the one for the medieval world. does it seem like they stuck with those plans? because they probably would've revealed more than barbara by now... i don't mean costumes.

I think I once read that Barbara's alternate costumes are in fact, the characters in question, but I can't remember for sure.

I think in the latest interview they said you'd have to save Barbara's sisters, and they were themed for each world. So basically we're just getting 10 different Barbara's, which is okay in my book, because more characters that aren't Teensies is really good news.

Ah, if that's what he was asking then aye I agree. I don't even mind the fact that there's only four characters with different skins, because:
a) unlike Rayman Origins, the skins are pretty fucking awesome and most of them are more than just a recolour
b) unlike Rayman Origins, they're much more balanced. From what I've seen there's a similar amount of Rayman, Globox, Teensy and Barbara skins, while in Origins it was three Raymen, three Globoxes and a shitton of Teensies

In the challenges app, out of the 12 characters, there are only 4 Teensies, and the rest are Globox, Rayman, and Barbara. Not to mention, there's already more characters then there was in RO, and going by the background to the official website, there aren't as many Teensies, though I do remember in the same interview that they said you started off with all the characters from RO, though I could be wrong about that

For me, Rayman's been the franchise with the most strategic marketing I've seen.

It started as a pretty great franchise, but still not as popular as Mario. With Rayman 2 it cultivated a fanbase, and created a world that people would fall in love with. After Rayman 3 they knew the mascot was suffering in the era where most mascots started losing their charm (poor Spyro, Crash and Sonic...), so they made Rayman Raving Rabbids for the Wii, one of the best selling systems of the era. They made it as comedic and gimmicky as possible to attract more people, including the casual market in general.

A long disappearance increased the value of the franchise, which increased the hype with Rayman Origins. The game's artstyle and goofy humour would attract:

-Rabbids fans because of the goofiness that somehow still can be seen in this game.
-Kids because of the cartoonish style
-80's cartoons fans because of the fluidity of the animation.
-Lovers of NSMB because of the 4 players co-op.
-Traditional Rayman fans because it's finally an adventure that doesn't involve Rabbids.

Michel Ancel probably knew that Origins would be amazing for any type of Rayman newcomer, but just "okay" for true Rayman fans, that's why he probably made Rayman Legends: a game that not only attracts the big amounts of people who loved Origins, but finally gives a more serious and epic feeling to true Rayman fans.

Origins was just a strategy to attract a bigger audience to the series, and Legends seems to be the BIG BOMB and, as developers claim, the biggest Rayman game ever created.

Still don't know if all of these things were actually planned, but they worked pretty well. Now people talk about how gorgeous are Rayman games and how repetitive are Mario games.

This is directly related to Rayman, but if this is more than just a tease, does this mean Michel is working on two games at once?

Continuing off of what Sergio was talking about:

I think one of the reasons Mario has stayed more popular than Rayman and why it's so repetitive is because Nintendo likes to keep their games from growing into more in-depth studies of their characters. For them, they want to keep the characters from changing because they want new people to jump into the series without feeling lost. Like the saying goes: an idiot is born every day. That's certainly one of the key factors that keeps Mario higher in popularity. Rayman has endured for different reasons. One of those reasons is that he has grown into his own character that's endearing and easy to latch onto. His world has also grown, but there is a certain simplicity and beauty to it that keeps people coming, even newcomers like myself.

Mario has been kept the same so that he can slip into whatever roll Nintendo gives him. Rayman is a little more is own person within his own world. Both he and Mario are fun-loving guys, but Rayman has shown to have complexities that Mario has yet to show. Rayman is not only fun-loving and carefree. He's been known to make sarcastic or disgruntled remarks. He's shown that he can get legitimately angry at something and you feel that coming from him. He shows thoughtfulness, determination, sadness, fear, or in some cases downright defeat. And it all feels legitimate. Weird to say, but Rayman actually feels more genuine and more human than Mario. In fact, he might be about as complex as Luigi, who has gotten quite a bit more of a personality recently. Okay, maybe Luigi isn't that complex, but you get my meaning. And I think that's why so many more people are attached to him (as well as Luigi) as a character.

As far as what each of them do as heroes, with Mario, his task is 99% the same every time: rescue Princess Peach. Rayman's task of protecting the Glade is much more in-dept because his world has seen more than its fair share of bad guys. It's never the same one every time. His task of protecting the Glade is not limited to just one bad guy, where as Mario is almost always fighting Bowser at some point.

Thinking about it, it's actually kind of a mystery to me as to why Rayman isn't as widely publicized as Mario. Then again, it probably helps that Mario has been around a lot longer. And comparing Rayman to Mario is like comparing apples to oranges.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been developed for many years as far as I remember.

I totally agree, both have got strong points. In fact, they both share my exact thoughts. I think it got obvious that RO ended up transformed into something different as a marketing strategy. The money is in first place for Ubisoft as you can imagine.

By the way, is anyone still playing the Challenges App? It has ended up extraordinary repetitive in a way I stopped playing.

I think the problem with Rayman Origins is that it was made on a shoe string budget and with a strict deadline, which is why the second half of the game is so lackluster compared to the first, and why most of the story bits and characters were cut out. Rayman Legends seems to be avoiding this problem so far, as it seems to have a higher budget, and the dev team is purposely making the story simple, but still making it "epic". There seems to be more environments, and in one world alone we've seen forests, dungeons, and a burning town, all of which look beautiful and have far more detail in them than Rayman Origins did.

I really wish Legends could have similar opening like Origins. Opening was the thing that made me laugh most. :mwahaha:
