Re: Movies you just recently watched
I just watched Megamind for maybe the third time and I've got to say that I really love this movie for its stunning graphics. The effects, the explosions for example, or the wind through the character's hair, are breathtaking. I find the story particularly heartwearming too, for once from the perspective of the guy you'd usually be rooting against (?). There's a reason I keep this one stored in my TV's recording list.

Monsters University
I went into this movie expecting a sort of no-brainer buddy-comedy, as that's basically what the trailers showed off. Amusingly however, most of the early trailer scenes never appeared in the movie, and I'd actually say that that's a good thing, as this movie blew me away.
Not only was this movie much, much better than I expected, it absolutely nailed the concept of doing a prequel the right way, and it did everything anyone could have wanted as a prequel: It explored the origin story of the two protagonists, it expanded upon the Monsters universe, it had a load of well-placed, intelligent and essential tie-ins to its sequel, and of course, the improvements in rendering technology over the past twelve years have been vast; it's almost like comparing Conker's Bad Fur Day to Live and Reloaded, or Ocarina of Time to OoT 3D, and it never ceases to impress. All of the above features of the film are done in phenomenally coherent detail, and, and in my opinion, were almost perfectly executed. When it showed kid Mike taking a field trip to Monsters Inc, it played it out so mysteriously I couldn't help from grinning out of joy.
'University also had a surprisingly high drama-to-comedy ratio. There was lots of comedy no doubt, but it was balanced out with a large amount of drama between the characters, especially when it came to Mike and Sully. It has an emotional quality to it that I think Monsters Inc ever so slightly lacked, and at times was quite touching indeed. The adventure into the human world was an awesome addition as well, and the way it affected the characters I found was extremely well done.
The tie-ins to Monsters Inc, like said before, were actually essential and virtually flawless. For instance, toward the end, I was afraid that when Mike appeared to have won the scaring games, that he actually did. However, it did exactly what I had been hoping it would, that he eventually had to admit that he wasn't scary. Sully's speech to Mike at the end, when he stated that Mike, while not scary, was intelligent and fearless, even adds to the quality of Inc, as it demonstrates how important their working dynamic is; it actually makes you appreciate and like the characters in Inc more than before. This particular tie-in also leads up to and makes you feel very happy for Mike when he finally achieves his dream at the end of Monsters Inc where he gets to make children laugh - there are a load of references in the movie to events that happen in the sequel, and they're all quite smart, as many of them would only be understood by those who know Inc very well. The character tie-ins were well done, especially Randall's. The whole University/school dynamic also felt very real.
My only problem with the film would be how the tone went kind of askew in the middle section during the bulk of the Scare Games. It was fvery fun to watch, it just didn't quite feel like the same movie. But what is that in comparison to all the positives of the movie? The humour was hilarious, varied and original, the pacing was excellent (in fact, it took its time, as the movie nears two hours, which is very good), the story was solid, the drama was intriguing, there were zero pop-culture references; it's the perfect marvelous, ma prequel. I definitely recommend this, especially to those who liked and know Monsters Inc well. There's too much to say. Just see it!
Sorry for the abysmally lacklustre and poorly-written state of this post, I'm typing it all on my phone whilst being really tired, and I really don't have the patience to organise, proof-read and trim it like I normally would.

Don't worry, it was legible.
I assume those tags were for spoilers, I edited your post so that they worked.
Anyways, considering what I was expecting, from what your post conveys, it seems that it actually did things right, compared to what people were worried it could've been, thanks for sharing Ad, I'll add this to the list of movies I want to watch now.

Ah, thanks. I should have read it over at least once to find ridiculous errors like that.
Re: Movies you just recently watched
Oh joy, glad to know you think the movie is good! I finally have some more excitement to go to a cinema when MU comes there.
Re: Movies you just recently watched
You recommend it? I was kinda sceptical when I heard about the prequel of the movie but from what you wrote, I guess I'll try to consider watching it later.

Oh, yes, I'm definitely watching it now.
Re: Movies you just recently watched
I watched The Game yesterday. It's not that great. It's funny sometimes and you watch it until the end to know what's up but it gets boring. Maybe I wasn't really aware of the goodness of the movie because of the Lady who was beside me!

Daft Punk's Electroma
I surprisingly enough never knew this existed. This is probably one of the best movies I have watched in a long time, and that's an amazing accomplishment for a seventy two minute movie with a story that could be told in only ten. More then half of the movie consists of slow shots that might last for ten minutes straight, and they show nothing but the duo walking or driving in a car. Electroma requests all your patience, and I've seen many people disappointed and even a couple of negative reviews criticising the movie for lacking actions, dialogue, and Daft Punk's own music. Not sure who gave those people a job as critic, because they probably make up 31% on Rotten Tomatoes who liked The Purge.
Daft Punk's Electroma is about acceptance, being how society wants you to be, loneliness, and the desire to be something you are not, and I feel that no movie full of action or a large cast with different personalities could have covered these topics so well. The Daft Punk duo are in a world where everyone is apparently a robot and all wear the same helmets as them. Two different appearances for everyone in the world with only clothing to separate people. Their wish is to become human, and they so do by going to what I'm guessing a doctor, or doctor's in this case, and come back out wearing rather amusing fake human heads that'll give you a break from the patience killing shots and give you something to chuckle at. However, this means they no longer fit in with society, that they are different, and it takes only minutes before people want them to be gone. And that isn't the only problem: The faces are melting. As they manage to escape the crowd in a rather silly yet saddening scene, they decide to take off the melted heads, becoming themselves once more. They are once again Daft Punk (Known as Hero Robot #1 and Hero Robot #2). This scene is just incredible and despite nothing much actually happens it's emotional and makes you think. There is no talking, they are robots, and yet you feel so much for them. Their movements show what is going trough them, and it allows you to imagine what they might have said if there was dialogue.
The two decide walk out of town and into the desert, and this is the only part of the movie I'm a bit critical about. I didn't mind simply watching them walk for ages at first. Your patience is going away and you start to explore every corner of the screen, looking at the scenery and noticing every detail, and it's beautiful. There's so many movies where people put so much work into making the environment look stunning but the constant action keeps you from seeing any of it. However, this is dragged out way too long. Unlike many I could be genuinely interested in the long shots where nothing happened, but I feel they should have shortened this scene by maybe just a minute or two. At the same time I also praise it. Not only does it make you realise how enormous your desire for conflict or action (I know, I'm overusing the word.) is, but also how real life, reality, is not as interesting, and that we want things like video games or movies to show us the things that are. It's a bittersweet thought. Reality doesn't contain the many exciting things we hope to see, and when many people including myself started this movie expecting something wacky like the anime for their previous album while jamming to some of their coolest tracks didn't get any of that, what you're watching suddenly becomes something completely different. Normally, you'd never spend ten minutes watching people walk, why would you now? Only those who are willing to look deeper into it will find out and enjoy this movie.
The ending is fucking amazing, but I won't spoil it in case I've interested someone with this review. You've become very attached to these two characters who have up until this moment not really done much besides walking and standing still, and you'll find out when you see this part of the movie happening. I thought it was brilliant, but not until the next day, today, did it truly get to me. The messages of this movie are somewhat simple and it's not first to go over these topics, but I've never come across something that allowed me to relate me so much. I do notice how the choices I make are often considering wrong by society. Whether a fan of their music or not, I really ask you to give this movie a chance. Don't expect Get Lucky and bring all your patience with you.
Despite one part of the movie being dragged out a bit too long, I can give no less then a 10/10 score to this movie. It's message is clear, strong, and it needed little to nothing to express it.

And check out the album, Human After All, that came around the same time too, cause it's pretty fucking great.

Re: Movies you just recently watched
Ya, I know this is mostly about recently watched movies, but why not also talk about 'em in general. I've totally got my eyes on Laika's new upcoming feature.
Impressive. Laika put a gay character in Paranorman. Now they did this, because they be givin' no damn! Also, everything else in general looks really interesting.

I saw Adaptation for the first time, and it was brilliant. Now I've got to see as many Charlie Kaufman films as I possibly can.

I saw Monsters University just last week. Loved it.
Re: Movies you just recently watched
Rewatched Fast and Furious from 2 to 5 and watched the last one at cinema. Not that bad but like Die Hard, only here to make tons of money.
