Re: Cartoon Shows
Movie was good, but I think new episodes would be awesome. The thing I like about Anime is that many of them have really big number of episodes.
Sazae-san has 6917+ episodes
Doraemon has 1787 episodes
Detective Conan has 700 episodes
One Piece has 606 episodes.
There are many more examples,

Some of them are still in production and making new episodes including Sazae-san which is longest Anime ever.
I wish American cartoons would be more like that.

Re: Cartoon Shows
I used to watch Doraemon, it is a quite fun show.
Re: Cartoon Shows
You did watched all the episodes, right?
Re: Cartoon Shows
Yet, most American Cartoons get dull if they're around too long. Mostly because they run out of ideas.

Re: Cartoon Shows
Aye, I have to agree with that. I thought the show ended just fine the way it did.Bradandez wrote:I oppose to that. Ed, Edd, and Eddy ended perfectly the way it did which was with the movie. I don't think it needs more episodes.
Re: Cartoon Shows
I never said it did not end fine, but having more episodes after movie would be even better.
Re: Cartoon Shows
I know what you meant but...
Having more episodes doesn't always equal a quality show.

Re: Cartoon Shows
Over the past few days I watched the final season of Futurama and whilst I felt they concluded the series quite well, I can't help but wish this wasn't the end. I mean, I thought this season overall had some extremely well written episodes, with lots of funny moments and even a couple of well thought out emotional scenes. I know you could say atleast it ended on a high note, whereas there are many TV shows such as The Simpsons which have been dragged on way too long and their quality has become somewhat obsolete. I just cant help but still see the potential Futurama still has; when watching the newer episodes I never once felt the show was running its course or it had become stale. This season brought some great plots and creative jokes and to me were as good as prior seasons. Well Futurama has been cancelled and brought back a couple of times before and I kinda hope it does yet again in the future. In a sense this is actually a somewhat beneficial routine as it gives the writers some leg room and time for new creative ideas to flourish over time which wouldn't have been present there if the series was on a constant annual loop. It annoys me how Family Guy gets to stay on the air with such a mass of popularity; the show became stale years ago and relies on a decent joke or 2 to keep its lame plots and premises aloft.
Re: Cartoon Shows
Groening has said he will try to get it picked up by another network.

Re: Cartoon Shows
Ehh, part of me wants to see it go on, the other part appreciates nothing good lasts forever, and I would hate to see Futurama drone on like a mindless zombie, I guess time will tell what's to become of things.
Re: Cartoon Shows
One Piece lasts forever
But then again that's not a cartoon but an anime.

Re: Cartoon Shows
But isn't the reasoning behind animé being so long running because they use slower animation and most of it is taken up with fight scenes that should realistically take about ten minutes of one episode but is stretched out to last at least two whilst each character monologues the ever loving crap out of the other? In a way I am glad that many of the shows I watched were short running, means I can afford to buy them in box sets when they're released.OldClassicGamer wrote:Movie was good, but I think new episodes would be awesome. Let's see cartoons and stuff I watched as a kid and still have on DVD (i.e. still watch) are:
- Avatar: The Last Airbender
- DuckTales
- Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers
- Darkwing Duck
- Tail Spin
- The Animals of Farthing Wood (to the member who said earlier in the topic they bought Animals of Farthing Wood in Germany on DVD, was it good quality and in English?)
- The Raccoons
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- Sonic the Hedgehog (not so much The Adventures of StH as I preferred the darker atmosphere, although one of my favourite singers Long John Baldry does the voice of Robotnik for Adventures of StH which is its only redeeming quality!)
- Garfield
- Animaniacs
- Dangermouse
- Count Duckula
- Rocko's Modern Life
- Gargoyles
- Droopy
- Tom and Jerry (sometimes watched Tom and Jerry Kids Show but didn't like that too much).
- The Tick
I used to watch a lot of cartoons on the weekends, because I wasn't allowed to watch TV much during the week, which means now as an adult I don't even bother to watch TV.

Re: Cartoon Shows
I'd say the quality is OK and it's definitely in English as well as German (you have to set it up on the menu though), I wouldn't have bought them otherwise. I've got season 1 and 2 though even though the 3rd season wasn't as good I'm grabbing the DVD anyway.Skiffy wrote: - The Animals of Farthing Wood (to the member who said earlier in the topic they bought Animals of Farthing Wood in Germany on DVD, was it good quality and in English?)
Re: Cartoon Shows
Was it super expensive or reasonable? I am wondering if I should maybe look into getting it imported then. Same with the Moomins, absolutely loved that show (oddly freaky cartoon in places!) and saw you can buy that in Europe but not here.
Re: Cartoon Shows
I used to watch Moomins long time ago on some TV channel. It was some cartoon from Finland right?
Re: Cartoon Shows
The cartoon was produced in Japan and was based on the Swedish-Finnish children's books. The franchise is very popular in both Finland and Japan and for a good reason. I watched it as well as a kid, but didn't understand to appreciate the philosophical messages it brought as much as I do now.
Re: Cartoon Shows
I couldn't agree more Gnineify, the message as a kid was totally lost on me but when I re-watched it fairly recently as an adult I found the messages in some of the episodes rather profound, it's quite wonderful actually to rewatch it as an adult.

Re: Cartoon Shows
They were, about £15 a season but considering no other English releases exist, plus they're not like how the VHS's were in that they had to cut things out to make them into "feature films" it's worth it.Skiffy wrote:Was it super expensive or reasonable? Regarding the other ones you listed, I've watched almost every one (I need to find and watch the Last Airbender :V ) except maybe the Tick.

Re: Cartoon Shows
Anyone remember the Groke from The Moomins? Scared the shit out of me as a kid.
