Nope, I did not even play it. I was playing legends, uploading soundtrack and now I am uploading Wander over Yonder 10 hours opening. After that, I will play Rayman 1.

Ghehehe not a good chance that'll work out for ya, but you could try anyway. Valve is the first that actually has to 'greenlight' your Greenlight campaign - so good luck getting it out there!

This is just a guess based on he way it's behaving, but it's likely something like that.
I lol'd when the guy said "the sprites get stuck".
1. The background is looped as many times as necessary so the total width >= viewport width. That means as little as possible of the background will be rendered outside of the viewport. The viewport is coded into the game as 4:3. The hack doesn't change this.
2. Every other object/tile within a certain distance of the viewport is drawn on top of it (so you can see objects that are only partly inside the viewport too).
3. The game loop continues and the next frame is drawn on top of the previous one.
4. In the 4:3 viewport, everything is okay as the background has been drawn over the previous frame. Outside of the normal viewport though, it hasn't. If things have moved slightly since the last frame (including that small part of the background that does render outside of the 4:3 plane), they creates a weird "trail" effect. Nobody can see it normally, but with the hack you can.
Basically, if they could make the game loop the background one or two more times (and maybe adjust the bounds for the viewport so it doesn't show anything outside level bounds), it would be perfect.

I don't want to de-rail the current discussion, but I just want to try and talk on the board of all of the main games, so feel free to ignore this post and continue with the discussion above.
Rayman 1 is probably my least favourite of the main Rayman games (unpopular opinion, I know). I still think it's great. In fact, it's perfect in every aspect outside of gameplay. It's just that some of the mechanics and level design can be very annoying, more often than I'd like. And I feel it's very dated in some aspects. Ironically, it still holds onto a lot of archaic tropes from the 8-bit era of platformers, despite being a fairly revolutionary game of the 32 bit era. That isn't a bad thing in and of itself, but in the case of this game, I think it actually holds it back.
There are also some graphical issues that bug me (not glitches, just issues I have in relation to sprite art and collision detection).

Hm, interesting, you seem to value the gameplay side of things more than the artistic and atmospheric, nothing wrong with that whatsoever, in fact, I appreciate that although we may all love the same franchise, there are different aspects that draw in our love.

Rayman 1 is in terms of art and atmosphere one of the best game I've ever played. It's incredibly sad that Legends seemed so close to recreating the mysterious world and then proceeded to bombard it with same mistakes Origins made. Gameplay wise Picture City has to be the most hated parts of the game next to Eat At Joe's, but it's my favourite. The somber and dark sections are stunningly beautiful and when it rains Picture City can give some great vibes. It remains my favourite place in the Rayman universe and I'd love to see it again in the way Ad's game has presented it so far.
I've never had much trouble with Rayman 1's gameplay really. As a kid yes, because the game is way too hard for the younger audiences it tried to market the game for. But even then I loved the game's music and looks, something you don't normally pay attention to at age 4 - 6. While sometimes the platforming may be confusing and frustrating I find that with some clever thinking you can always complete it. Each world offers new mechanics and none of them feel like a let down to me. Especially Band Land and Picture City have a kind of level design you don't really see in any other game. I must disagree. Rayman 1 doesn't feel aged to me and with some new textures the game could have an HD remake with the gameplay untouched.

The mechanics of the original Sonic games are rather clunky. While their true classics I've never been fund of the difficulty coming from trying to platform with controls that aren't well for it. This is not actually true. I do value artistic expression in a video game as much as the gameplay. That's why Journey is one of my favourite games of all time, as well as Atlus' Catherine.
However, game mechanics are inherently part of artistic expression in video games. As a result, if the game's mechanics are flawed, it gets in the way of my enjoyment of the artistic side of things.
Which is why I don't like Rayman 1 as much as others. The game is really hard, but that's not the problem. It's just that more often than not, my deaths felt like the game's fault and not my own. That's a huge immersion breaker, and reminds me that I'm only playing a video game, rather than visiting a fantastical world.
The game's music and art direction is pure bliss, but it's a problem if questionable game design is a barrier to me experiencing the rest of the game.
It's important that artistic expression, game mechanics, and level design are all done to an equal standard. Otherwise, the one that is lackluster sticks out like a sore thumb. And in Rayman 1's case, the game mechanics and level design are not up to snuff.
I could go on about this for a while, and go into detail about what bugged me in Rayman 1. But I don't want to sound like I am ranting.
I must stress that I do not hate Rayman 1. In fact, I think it's still a great game.
If any of you watch the Youtuber "Caddicarus", and have watched his review of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, then my feelings on Rayman 1 are essentially the same as his feelings on Croc - I think Rayman 1 is quite flawed in it's game mechanics and level design, but it has so much charm and perfection in every other aspect that the game makes me smile regardless.........after it's done frustrating me!

Ah, my mistake for misinterpreting, I do apologise.
Hm, it is true that the game can be rather unforgiving, but I think it's not so much the control as it is the level design, the control is perfectly fine to me, not too tight or slippery, and actions are performed spot-on.

I completely agree with you. Rayman 1 is nowhere near a bad game, but it's way to difficult for it's own good. So I just downloaded the soundtrack of this game from RayTunes, and something caught my eye.
One of the songs is named "The Cake is a Lie". Is that the official name of the song, or did the uploader just name it that for the hell of it because the songs are nameless to begin with?
