They may be, but nothing beats the satisfaction of authentic hardware :P.

I still don't trust emulators that require more than just downloading and installing the emulator program.

Do you have at least a working PS3 or PS2? Original PlayStation 2 and 3 are backwards compatible to PS1.

I agree with Master too but Emulators are still a good alternative. And I think its silly not to trust them expecially since many people use them including Haruka who recorded her Walkthroughs thanks to emulators.

I don't like emulators, because you have to set it up, tweak it, blablabla. And then you'll have to expect glitches and errors, like in the SSF emulator the timing glitch or that glitch below:

I think the overall point is that for the most part, actual hardware beats out emulation, unless said emulators have had time aplenty poured into 'em, and even then, there's no such thing as perfection.

I honestly hate emulators; I just use them when there's a game I want to play that I don't have a console for. (For instance, I wanted to try out the Jaguar version of Rayman, since there's no way in hell I'm going to invest in a real Atari Jaguar.) The only ones that I find decent are XEBRA and DOSBox, and with XEBRA I still get broken audio interpolation, and with DOSBox I still get framerate issues.

I'm just going to go out on a limb here, and say that I think Haruka should invest in a DVD recorder or capture card, since, while the gameplay in her videos is very good, I'm getting a little tired of seeing severe and annoying emulation glitches in her videos (such as ePSXe's wonderful audio spazzouts). I still really like her videos, though. I actually restarted my Conker walkthrough when I got a real N64, since I got tired of the emulation bugs.

If you can get your hands on the actual hardware, that's always the best option. If not, then you can use emulators as a mediocre alternative.

Nobody in here could invest in a Jaguar, knowing how rare and costy are (especially for just one game).

I would invest in a capture device if they weren't so costy, but that isn't just the only issue. There are consoles I would really like to own for real, but my parents would chop my head away if a mailman was knocking at our door bringing a new game console, especially now that I started university studies. Maybe in a few years I can manage to do so, but for now it is useless. I also don't think that opening a donation PayPal account would solve anything.

That really sucks. My parents let me get whatever I want, as long as I have the money to back it up. Do you have any vintage gaming stores near where you live? You can get consoles from there. Where I am we have a chain of stores called Pink Gorilla, and they're great little stores where I can drool over used Nintendo consoles and games.[/quote]

Capture cards are only expensive if you're looking to record in HD.

You could also use the argument that you can still play games on emulators, but that might not work.

I don't even WANT one! As far as I know, there are only two decent games for it!

*facepalm* I'm not wasting money on a bad console just so I can play one game.

You misunderstand, Em is merely pointing out that one of the members here owns it.

I know, but it annoys me that people would buy a bad console just for one good game. This is when emulators are meant to be used. I know I sound like a dick for insulting another member's console, but the Jaguar is universally recognized as an ungodly abomination that should never have seen the light of day. It IS a terrible console.

It would be different if I was insulting a system that I was not a big fan of, but still knew was decent. For me, this would be every console in the Xbox line. I'm not a huge fan of them, but they still aren't bad systems.

Fair enough, but Hoodcom is a mod here, having spoken with him in the past, I believe he's a collector.
