Thats what all of us told him a million times. I don't understand how can he consider himself Rayman fan if he is not gonna buy and support Rayman game.

Valuing art ≠ Paying for art

Taking into account my level of satisfaction with the game, I honestly would not have minded pirating Legends in the slightest. I want to support the developers at Montpellier though, so I bought it to show my support. I want to see them do great things (like I know they can) with my money.

Adsolution is totally right. I simply could have pirated RL if I wanted but since I want to see Ubisoft doing more Rayman games (and other cool games) and showing my support to the Montpellier team, I legally bought the game.

So you are saying that you don't have to own something to be the fan of it.

I do believe pirating game can be useful to make person decide do they want to show support or not bit problem is that incognito pirates every game. He is also ready to pay for pirated copy on street instead of saving that money and buying original. I do get what you are saying Ad and I would have not mind if someone else pirated it because every person that I know besides incognito who pirates games also buys some games too. I am sorry but incognito's view on things in general is somehow bugging me a bit.
@jurebj
A fan would at least own 1 game from series. incognito owns nothing.

For me, I feel if you want to truly show appreciation for a game after pirating it, you should buy it, or invest in future installments (if it's part of a series). Or, at the VERY least, pay for the game's soundtrack or something if it's available.

This is actually how things happened regarding Rayman for me - Origins started getting me back into the franchise. However, my brother got Origins on our jtagged Xbox 360, and I played through the game on that. I myself have never paid for Origins (and I pirated the game on PC more recently), but my brother at least bought the Vita version legitimately.

And although we have pirated versions of Legends on Xbox 360 and PC, I actually bought the Wii U version, and he bought the Vita version. And the Wii U version is the one I play.

Other than that, I also paid for Rayman 1 on the PlayStation Store. I pirated Rayman 2 on PC and PSOne, and my brother had Rayman 3 HD on the jtag, so I just played it there.

So yeah, I admittedly don't have a clean streak, but I will certainly buy any future installments in the franchise.

A weird quirk about me, personally, is that unless the game is part of a series that I am specifically trying to catch up in (such was the case with Rayman games I pirated), I tend to not enjoy the experience as much if I didn't actually pay for the game. This also applies to games I get off of PS Plus, even though that's perfectly legal.

Like, I could get a game for free, play it, and be completely in love with what I play...yet, struggle to actually complete it, because I instead turn to a game I bought myself (or at least received as a gift from someone, or was bought legitimately by my brother or something). A perfect example of this is Okami HD. Got it from PS Plus, played some of it, and absolutely adored it...but I've only had two or three sessions with it, and I'm not that far. I just keep neglecting to go back to it because of games I buy with my own money.

Since I have JTAGGED 360 as well, I could not go on XBL and pay for R3 HD but at least i did for regular R3. The HD version was bad anyways.

Sure, you can be a total hack and just pirate every game, but that doesn't for some reason mean you can't love, adore, and even be the biggest fan of the games that you pirate. Of course, the moral is that they realistically should buy it if that was the deal, but whether you're a pirate or a honest buyer, that has no bearing on your status as a fan.

Hm, I can see where you come from, Spore was a pretty popular game, yet many pirated it, doesn't necessarily mean that they weren't fans of it.

When I was like 7 years old or something I only had a pirated version of Rayman 3. I loved it. Ewen if I didn't buy it.

I know, but it feels kind of greedy, to me, to solely pirate. I feel it's just more polite to actually pay for a game/product. Pirating a game and loving it is just a very one-sided deal to me, at least if you don't even purchase future installments. I think it's outright despicable when I see pirate gamers who start bashing developers for their decisions in future installments, or demand certain things from them.

I mean, you can post about how much you adore a game on a forum after playing a pirated copy, but that doesn't do anything for the developers. They're not likely to find your post or whatever (maybe direct fan-mail, but even then, don't count on it being seen), so the "at least you are giving the developers emotional support" argument doesn't work.

I personally couldn't care for the publishers. Ubisoft isn't stuck for money in the slightest. However, I would fear what might happen if Rayman games didn't sell well, so I want to pay for them (only newer ones though - buying an old Rayman game on eBay or something won't do anything for the developers, so I pirate those where possible).

Like you said, you can be a fan of a game without paying a penny and just pirate it, but you're not helping the developers by doing so. There's a difference between being a fan and a supporter, and I'd rather be the latter as much as possible.

I'm not going to get on people's cases for pirating (especially since I am no stranger to it myself), but that's just the way I personally feel I can express my love for a game to it's developers, and feel satisfied in my expression - by doing something that actually helps them. If I love a game, even if I pirated it, I feel I must purchase the game once (a new copy too - used copies don't count towards a game's sales) to say I justified my playthrough of the game. I don't succeed in this all of the time, and I feel guilty when I can't, but I try my hardest to pay for the game.

I agree with you.
I never had a chance to buy it. I'll buy that game I don't know when but I'll do it when I get a chance.

I never pirated any Rayman game from Rayman 3 and onwards, only games which i couldn't afford/buy or that are withdrawn from the market, therefore are not so easy to find. From a point i once said to myself that i should not pirate games or programs anymore, and i value the bought products much better than the ones i don't own legally.
I pirated most of the Rayman 1 variants and Rayman 2 versions + Rayman Rush, however i do own a legal copy of Rayman 1 on PS1, Rayman 2 GOG and PS1 version, Rayman M PC ( CD1 is lost so i downloaded the full english version ), Rayman 3 PC and HD, Rayman Origins on PC, and Rayman Legends on both PSVita and Xbox 360 so i can actually say that i support Ubisoft, i do plan on buying some of the pirated games. That fucking pirate incognito can go fuck himself for pirating every game.
