Inco, what the heck?

Hmm, it's somewhat ironic, the Ranklist was shaken up in November 2012, I'd only been here for just over a year, I think my ting count was about 40000, but I can't really remember for sure. The idea behind getting more ranks was to accommodate the then large amount of member who'd broken about 100K, which I think was the top rank back then.

No idea what incognito is on about. I don't think I want to either.

I understand for the older members here who have a lot of tings that if they were on the top rank for the last 2 years it'd be pretty boring. That's why maybe when a top rank is achieved it unlocks maybe 30 ranks to choose from to keep variety.

I found an old print-out from back in the Rayman Zone days I had kept from when I was a kid, lemme quote:

Gloxbox/Andre - 12.5k lums to 15k lums
Rayman 1/Mr Dark - 15k lums - 17.5k lums
Rayman 2/Razorbeard - 17.5k - 20k lums

Hmm, in retrospect, once one has reached that point, they could easily pick from all ranks in the list anyways, using the whole ting bank idea, so it's a bit redundant isn't it?

Say the top rank on this forum is at lets say 50k tings

once somebody hits the top rank, they can choose from ranks that weren't used in past ranks. So they'd have like 30 exclusive avatars to choose from. Maybe ones from the custom rank thread? Things like that. So that's the reward for hitting the top rank. You get a big choice of exclusive avatars

This place is an active forum, but it's not the sort of place that you can churn out the kind of posts you'd need to to move up the ranks. If you've got 4 years worth of records days under your belt, and you really racked it up then yeah it makes sense. But for new comers, it's not really achievable. I have a pretty decent Rayman 3 score, and I'm still pretty low in the rank-list. I think it's detrimental to the forum to have such high requirements because it encourages members to post A LOT, and that usually leads to 'spam'. I just don't think that this forum today in 2014 can warrant having such high rank boundaries. It's not realistic. Nor achievable. I think the boundaries should be made a lot lower.

Maybe we could raise the amount of tings given out by submitting a HoF score!

That's also another solution haha. I'm not trying to stir things ,just offering an opinion It might be a more fresh perspective as it's coming from someone who's starting towards the bottom at this place. It's pretty funny as I wrote that my computer chair decided to go down gradually on it's own LOL

28% of our ranks require less than 200 posts (1000 Tings).

46% require less than 5,000 Tings (a straightforward 500,000 points in the Hall of Fame).

64% require less than 20,000 Tings (reasonably achievable by any active user in a year's time, record day included).

Only 12% actually require more than 100,000 Tings.

In the end, I think we have the best possible Ting requirements. You change rank very quickly at first, and then as you make progress it becomes harder and takes longer to reach the next one. The last ranks, requiring outstanding amounts of Tings, reward our most loyal, long-time active users who can still set goals for themselves.

It's always good to reward every competitor, but only one will get the gold medal. Else what would be the point in a gold medal?

As for the potential incitation to spam, the overall quality of messages here leads me to think it's a non-issue, all the more because we have a great moderating team that works hard to keep the place clean and enjoyable for all.
