So should we all be calling it a 140 Gibibyte drive? I'm a tad confused!Master wrote:< isn't fond of the whole Kilo/Mega/Giga vs Kibbii/Mebi/Gibi thing. 1024, not 1000!

Re: The You Game!
< wonders what the current mindset is about SSD stability. When they were relatively new a few years ago, there were all these doomsayers (as always) spelling their downfall as they would suffer from internal degredation with every read or write operation to the point where a certain number of read/writes would make the device die on you and also make it so that it would be physically implossible to recover the data. < doubts that's actually the case, but < would like some security in that just in case.

Re: The You Game!
From what < has learnt, it's the whole binary vs denary system thing. Manufacturers tend to use 1000 (so, 1000MB is 1GB), while Windows (not sure about other OSes) uses 1024 (so, 1024MB is 1GB, not 1000). What this means, is for instance, an 8 GB Flash drive doesn't have 8 GB when plugged in, instead you get about 7.5 GB.
From what < has read, the kilo, mega and so on prefixes are for Denary (1000), while these Mebi, Gibi, Kibi are for binary (1024).

Hmm, < once had a VM on <'s old laptop with Ubuntu, perhaps < ought to experiment again with it sometime. Though not at present, < has other things to tend to.
Re: The You Game!
< wonders what is ^ using for VMs.

Oh, huh. That's sad. < was kind of hoping they'd accidentally done it the other way around.Master wrote:What this means, is for instance, an 8 GB Flash drive doesn't have 8 GB when plugged in, instead you get about 7.5 GB.
Anyway, the 1000-or-1024 thing isn't a Windows-exclusive deal, it's computer-based. Computers work in powers of two. 1000 is not a power of 2, but 1024 is.

< remembers ^'s arts for last years' halloween. < found them very intriguing, yet creepy and poor everyone else besides Rayman.

< Had that image secretly linked to in <'s signature for a while. Now the secret link leads to something equally horrifying!

< Wants to remake an old Rayman-related video < made back on the night of <'s 15'th (I think) birthday.

< Has joked about how < doesn't like how Rayman 3 was marketed as edgy but < should play Rayman 3 some time. To be honest, there's still a lot < doesn't really know about the Rayman story and most of that is from Rayman 3.
