Wasn't the game removed from the iOS store?

Wait, but Brad, weren't you one of the ones who already was always advocating the iOS version's merits?

Actual footage of me hacking into the App Store database.

Okay I was just confused about your statement - it seemed like you meant you were finally able to play the game after never having been able to - even though you kept saying it was a good port. :P

Even with some content taken out, this is a pretty good port of Rayman Poo.

I agree, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

The worst part is that it's ultimately my fault. No one knew or cared about those two "valley" lines in Rayman Advance until I started posting about them here in August 2008. Somehow the name caught on and now every Rayman fan has valley fever.
THEdragon wrote:As vague of a title as it is, though, and its less than glorious origin, it is good that the Rayman 1 world at least has a name. The Rayman 2 prototype, from what I can remember, called it Rayman's island. Now wouldn't that have been tragic.
This is another thing I shouldn't have done. There was really no indication that "Rayman's island" was ever meant to signify the location from the first game alone. It's much more likely to refer to the Glade of Dreams itself.

I'd always called the place in Rayman 1 'The Valley', as before I knew how to emulate or use DosBox, I played Rayman Advance for years when I no longer had access to a Windows 98 computer.

I see how it can make sense, seeing the visual evidence we're given, but I might have called it different myself - the Valley is logically speaking just the Pink Plant Woods of the first game; the rest of the areas are all perched atop hills and mountains (or under them, point in case being the Caves of Skops).

I only learnt about the R1 land's name when I had the chance to grab again (because I remember to play Rayman Advance before but I wasn't really into details) the GBA port and reading "Valley" in the introduction text. I however still share the possibility of the action passing in the islands separated from the large landmass, despite of lack of official evidence. It isn't harmful to imagine how things could connect together though.

Well there was this one time it froze on me, but I think it was my fault for playing it on my device for so long.

Hi there!
Long time no see, eh?

So the weirdest thing happened to me while playing the game on my new laptop.
I managed to install it from my copy of the game on Windows 8.1 (64-bit) and ran the application in compatibility mode (Win 98/ Me to be exact). Even without it the game runs without a problem - it does so in a quasi-window mode, though (meaning you can see the border of the window, but it adjusts the resolution of the screen and takes up all of it) no matter what.
When the game minimised itself during that (I had a different app working in the background), I tried restoring it out of habit. Lo and behold, the game resumed!
Notes: the game doesn't actually pause - when I restored the game, Rayman just finished doing his idle animation, which he wasn't in when the game minimised.
Also, the loading screens take about a half of the screen with corrupted colors (and the rest being whatever was before said screen appeared and flickering between last 2-3 frames as the loading bar would fill up). Not to mention how when I was repeating the action many times (I mean, come on, wouldn't you try to see if it would work again?), I got an error telling me that my sound card was busy - after unsuccessful attempts at retrying, I was forced to play the rest of the level without any sound. If you don't overdo the minimising/restoring action, the game plays as it should (with the loading screens looking like below and the game not actually pausing)

Wow, I've had problems too, but not like that.

Makes one wonder what sort of stuff is in R2 to make it so random in its modern day hijinks.

Well, the loading screens are a by-product of restoring the game after being minimised (which to my knowledge wasn't supposed to work at all?). I'm surprised the game doesn't crash anymore.

My guess about that is in a slightly different coding done for a translation - I'm using a Polish version that I didn't have to patch in any way to get it to work (because there seem to be issues with other copies when it comes to installing the game?).

Restoring after minimising was indeed supposed to work, but even on Windows 98 it was kind of hit and miss as far as I can tell.

And yet, here I am, able to do that just 'fine' on Windows 8.

Well no, since it's supposed to pause. ;)

Also, it does indeed sound like that Polish version is a hell of a lot better programmed than the original.

That's why the word 'fine' is between apostrophes (it's my equivalent of quotation marks).

It sure seems so, seeing as I'd never had any issues with playing it on newer systems (sans 7 - didn't have the opportunity to install it on that one). I find it weird, though. I mean, try as I might, I can't find any reason for one language version being better programmed than the other. Maybe they had to change some stuff (regarding Polish characters)? I really have no clue.
