That's a very interesting question. I wonder if you were suspicious about it, but... Yes, Record Day followed the Pareto principle!
Pareto RD 2023.PNG
For those who don't know what the Pareto principle is, it basically says that
80% of consequences come from the 20% of the causes. In our context, this means that 80% of the posts come from the 20% of the participants.
In RD there were 45 people participating (Ambidextroid posted with his secondary account). If you calculate the 20% of 45 people, that results in 9 people. According to the Pareto principle, these 9 users (Jonster, Greengoop, Plum, lyndo, Dave, SilverLum, Rayman Saturn, Steo and Hunchman) were responsible of, at least, 80% of the posts. So, as you can see in the graph, these 9 people were responsible of
83% of the total posts.
Thanks for the idea Plum
Wait, why am I not on that graph?
Plum gave you a precise answer. It is also possible to highlight only one of the names on the graph... Wanna see only yours?

I'm just reading this now, but really interesting analysis! Indeed, this year is quite an outlier, with a much higher participants to post count ratio. This makes me wonder, if we were to plot the average posts per participant per record day, whether there would be a trend there.
Regardless, I think it's a good sign to be under the trend line, in that it can be a sign of higher post quality, since a person can only post so much in a day.

That’s very true hunch

i found it was more about just having a good time than beating a record thou

If you plot that you can see the graph has a similar curve to the graph plotting the posts per year, but there are a few differences. Looking at this year, you can see that there has been a lower ratio even though we posted more times than in 2019. As Hunch says, this is also an indicator that this year has been a success in the sense that it has not been constant spam, but quality content.

Yeah we had a lot of good arguments and quality discussions on RD, I’ll just say it’s been my favourite day I’ve been here (except august 2nd maybe

)

We've done better than former users did in 2007! I think we can be more than happy

I did notice the post weren't nearly as spammy, yeah. More meaningful posts this year methinks. Maybe.
Interesting charts! So would you say the RPC is looking up lately?

Indeed! At least there's a positive tendence...

Hmmm, I'd say yes actually. Thanks to the efforts of the mods, more of the older members showed up for a reunion of sorts. Members i never thought i'd meet in this lifetime so it was wonderful

Note that the key trigger for me was the reminder on the very day of the record. I'd be happy to participate in upcoming editions, I'm just terrible at keeping a schedule and checking for myself on the upcoming events.

That's great feedback, we'll be sure to remind people just before RD starts next year as well.
