At first I liked the rabbids. I remember having lots of fun with my bros on this game when we were having parties, and i have a lot of good memories on it.
But I was still waiting for a 'serious' Rayman 4 (as serious you could expect after R3) at the time and I was just "well ok, i guess it'd be the for next game then"
Then came the second game.....
"Ok the last one got an overwhelming succes so sure, the R4 will surely come *after* this one. Right ?"
Then the other one.
"Hm..Next time-"
Then another other one.
"... :? "
then again another Rabbids game and still no sign of R4 still being in dev
"...Rayman IS coming back...Right  ?"

At one point, I just I felt very displeased whenever a Rabbids game came out, feeling like they were the reason why i couldn't have a new Rayman because of these games.
That was stupid to think that, I know. But I had no idea Origins was on the way during all that time.

Now Rabbids just leave me....Jaded i guess. I've watched a play through of Battle Kingdom and it looks cool, but I just can't get back into Rabbids.

It gave rise to something of an RPC tradition all right: viewtopic.php?p=457262#p457262

No, they are the only reason we got 2 amazing, unique, generation defining sidescrollers and not a 3D “reboot” slugfest then had to watch the franchise die in the mud due to horrifically poor sales.

How was Rayman Legends “unique”? It is merely a better version of Rayman Origins. And even then, I still prefer Origins for being the more memorable of the 2.

Also there’s more than 2, there’s more like at least 5 using the “generation-defining sidescroller concept” and that’s pretty much overkill. If anything I’d probably put the blame to Origins rather than Rabbids or even Legends for the series being stuck in this concept.

Feel free to correct me if that’s not what you’re thinking.

Yeah I bought a Switch the day it was released :)
What your friends code ?
Man....I want my own Switch soon too :?
Well when I get mine I'll tell you my friend code too!
I only have for the moment a Nintendo code for a console that I still need to get fixed so that's not going to be any good :P
Damn if only they were still here, now that I’ve had one for awhile! I wonder if Steo by chance still has Birds’ friend code….

That was very much was I was thinking! Origins felt like a fresh new adventure, and Legends was just an upgrade to Origins with many new unique stuff. I may have been glazing a little though.

Back to the main topic, I think Rabbids get way too much shit for “killing rayman”. Firstly, phoenix’s Rayman 4 was scrapped a whole year before the rabbids were even conceived. Then, the two series’ humbly separated in 2009 and Rayman got an entire overlooked revival. People just want something to be angry about.

I could've understood it a bit at the time the Rayman Raving Rabbids came out considering it very much felt like Rayman was just being used as a driver for the games, but in the post-UbiArt era it doesn't make as much sense. I understand being a bit envious about the Mario+Rabbids crossover but I don't see that being the fault of the Rabbids.

Yeah I agree with people maybe being a bit annoyed at the game after how good R2 and R3 were. But it’s been many years now and Origins and Legends are out already. Really if you want to blame something for Rayman’s current state blame Legends (and even Origins in a sense)

I think the way I see it, is that Ubisoft made these choices. People decide to blame a fictional character for what they see as Rayman's demise. It doesn't really make that much sense when you think about it.

The Rabbids absolutely did NOT ruin Rayman. Steo made a great point about it being Ubisoft’s fault, and even if the Rabbids were sentient and could doom a franchise, they clearly didn’t as we got the two best games after they were released!
not rayman kart and rayman legends beatbox.

Wait wait. You like Legends but not Beatbox :?

Yes it is technically Ubisoft's fault, but I'm fairly certain they don't give a crap. Hopefully tomorrow they will change our minds but rather I don't see a good outlook.

We'd probably still be getting new Rayman games if the Rabbids didn't exist

Given the direction of travel for the platforming genre as a whole...I'd be less confident in that assessment. We might have seen the odd title to coincide with previous resurgences (say around the late 2010s-early 2020s when there was a period of platfomer nostalgia), but I doubt the series would be as active. It feels like unless you're Mario or Sonic, you're better off being an indie franchise than you are being a platformer franchise belonging to a big publisher.

Ubi's still likely to have shifted focus to their blockbuster franchises, which by the time of the original Rabbids games, were starting to kick off. The first Assassins Creed would've come out about the same time, and like it or not, I don't think there's a single game in the Rayman series that has ever outsold an Assassins Creed title.

Blaming the rabbids for no new Rayman game is like blaming the child who was a result of an affair for the affair and running the family imo.

Do you have any evidence to combat this well argued point?

Here's something interesting: Just Dance was a spin-off of RRRTVP. Then in Rayman Origins when they realized the story was terrible, instead of fixing it they just replaced the Reveal cutscene with a Just Dance sequence, which apparently is one of Michel's favourite sequences in the entire series. So the Rabbids found an indirect way to ruin even Rayman Origins, which was supposed to be Rayman's post-Rabbid rehabilitation
