Re: How could we improve the portal?
It could be a nice idea, but anyway, I remember spending a lot of time on the positioning of the current banner (so that it still looks like a whole banner, even for smaller resolutions), and I wonder how long it would take us this time

Re: How could we improve the portal?
PC has too many unnecessary links. For example, if you're viewing the Index...why is there a link to the Index at the top of the screen?!? It doesn't even take you anywhere, it has no purpose at all! The same goes for ALL the forums, AND the subforums! The Rayman forum has a link to itself, the Guests Space has a link to itself, etc. Why?
Re: How could we improve the portal?
...why not?

Because.
Re: How could we improve the portal?
I don't think there is anything we can do about it. Anyhow, you are really nit-picking about things that shouldn't be fretted over.

Re: How could we improve the portal?
They're supposed to be useful if you want to refresh the page. We could remove them, but I'd rather spend my time improving PC significantly than removing hundreds of useless links. And this is what I've been doingspiraldoor wrote:PC has too many unnecessary links. For example, if you're viewing the Index...why is there a link to the Index at the top of the screen?!? So, I suppose most of you have had enough time to think about all the ideas in the first post of this topic, and it's time to choose now. Here is what I propose:
- Google AdSense: displays Rayman-related ads which could prove useful for members
Will be used to fill empty pages, such as the Error 404 message. - eBay Partners: displays Rayman-related eBay auctions
Will be positioned under the bottom line, as you can already see it. I'll try to obtain a more fitting eBay logo. By the way, it doesn't yield money at all. - RayTunes Player: displays a Flash player to listen to Rayman music
Due to bandwidth purposes, the pop-up online player will not be available. - RayWiki Featured Article: displays a summary of a RayWiki article with a link to the full page (see Wikipedia's main page)
Very likely to be on the portal, the position is still in question. - Personal Space: displays whatever you want (links to the pages you often visit, custom pictures, etc.), just use BBCode
It would be pretty useless actually, considering that all browsers have bookmarks. - Calendar: displays a small calendar with events submitted by users (and validated by moderators
)
Will be positioned on the left of the MyRSS feed. - Picture of the day: displays a new Rayman picture each day
Not very likely to appear if no significant progress is achieved concerning RayGallery. - Affiliates list: displays a list of websites affiliated to PC
Which affiliates?
- Forum Hall of Fame: displays the top ten members in terms of Rayman 3 score, posts, Tings, boon score, etc.
It will be merged with the mini-R3 HoF. It will be just below the bottom line, and display randomly either the top ten posters, boons, R3 players, or richest members. A drop-down list will also allow you to choose the criterion. - Lights On: displays information about a certain event on the community
Better just use the calendar. - Embedded videos: displays a video from YouTube or Dailymotion
It will be positioned under the calendar, on the right of the news.
Re: How could we improve the portal?
I think it's sounds great!
I don't use the portal at all, and once these changes are made, I think I'll have to make it my homepage
Would this be for the profiles?Personal Space: displays whatever you want (links to the pages you often visit, custom pictures, etc.)

Re: How could we improve the portal?
Not at all. I don't think I can explain it better than I did in the first post:Acarr wrote:Would this be for the profiles?
It is, basically, something that you would create (using text and BBCode), and that would appear somewhere on the portal when you are logged in. The main idea would be to add links to other websites.Hunchman801 wrote:Personal Space: displays whatever you want (links to the pages you often visit, custom pictures, etc.), just use BBCode
Note: It would be user-specific and would not appear if you are not logged in
Re: How could we improve the portal?
Oh I get it ^^; That sounds pretty neat. Unless spam bots use it to advertise...

Well, I'm not sure you have understood, because you would be the only person to see what's in your personal space. And anyway, bots can't log inAcarr wrote:Oh I get it ^^; That sounds pretty neat. Unless spam bots use it to advertise...

Re: How could we improve the portal?
I think we should be able to leave comments on the announcements on the Portal.

Re: How could we improve the portal?
That's not what I meant
I mean that after each announcement on the Portal (for example, the "we're-running-out-of-disk-space" one, and the "oysters-are-vicious" one) should offer the possibility of leaving comments. There would be brackets after each announcement, saying "(5 comments)" or something like that, and you'd click on it and be brought to a page showing the comments, and you could leave your own.

Re: How could we improve the portal?
But why ? These announcements usually get posted in the members forum anyway.

No reason.
Re: How could we improve the portal?
Everyone please enter your R3 scores in the new HOF! It does not matter how low it is, we need more entries!
Re: How could we improve the portal?
Haha I don't have R3. xD

Re: How could we improve the portal?
My score was shit. It was around 325,000 or something. I was only about twelve at the time I got that it though. That R3 GC torrent had better unrar itself properly this time
Re: How could we improve the portal?
My score was 385 000. I should really work on it, but i don't have the time anymore, i have a lot of projects going
Re: How could we improve the portal?
It doesn't matter how low they are. The current entries are actually the top 20, most people just score 250,000 (except for Jesse, who got 175,000
).
I'll add mine this evening.
