Nice, an animation for a change! I imagine they had to validate the idea of animating a limbless character to begin with.

Ubisoft's released more Rayman 1 concept art; unfortunately, we've already seen most of this before. The only standouts in my opinion are a set of sketches for Rayman's body parts and a better-quality version of this one (bottom left).

On another note, the tweet itself reads "A look back at Mr Dark, Rayman and the lost Lums!"
Please tell me that whoever's working on this account didn't just mistake these Electoons for early Lum concepts...

omg birb!! Giant birb...

Makes me wonder if that bird was gonna be our "Bzzit" before they changed it to a giant mosquito that is initially pissed at you but then becomes your friend lol

I wonder if the "huge features" thing stemmed from that concept art

Now this one is interesting! The resemblance between this bird sketch and the giant mosquitoes is striking...

That does make me wonder if we were supposed to ride a bird, not a giant mosquito, actually.

I'm pretty sure that was the idea. And maybe in the Blue Mountains, since it's on the same page as the Musician?

Yeah that tracks. Wonder why they didn't let our boy Rayman ride a bird :(

Funnily enough, Rayman and Globox were originally supposed to ride a giant bird in Rayman 3 to the Land of the Livid Dead, taking a quick pit stop at the Bog of Murk after it got injured. I guess Ubisoft just doesn't like having the guy fly on giant birds, since this was scrapped too. :?

He was also supposed to ride a giant bird in Rayman Raving Rabbids. Is Ubisoft's dislike of giant birds the reason the RRR prototype got cancelled? :mefiant:

Maybe that's also the reason why Rayman fights two giant birds in Rayman Origins/Legends (three in Origins if you count the Mecha Mockingbird). Who knows? :P

Not to mention the mechanical birds from Rayman 3 who snitch on poor Rayman...

It's like Ubisoft *hates* birds... what did the birds do to them? lmao

Did the birds near their studio start squawking too much or steal food from them? I need to know XD

I hope the Rayman project wasn't cancelled

They said that of the 6 cancelled projects, 3 were new IPs, 1 was a mobile game, and 1 was the long-awaited remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. There's no word on the last project, but hopefully it wasn't a Rayman game...

Not sure if this counts as double-posting - and if it does, I'm sorry - but Ubisoft just released two more Rayman 1 concept arts, both of which feature Rayman and Bzzit flying through Anguish Lagoon.

The color one showed up somewhere in L'Histoire de Rayman, and if I remember correctly, the sketched one is the art print that comes with the collector's edition of the upcoming Art & Design of Rayman. In other words, while these aren't exactly new, they've only been in books up until now! :)

Funny how the jellyfish were eventually brought back in some of the mosquito levels in Origins!

omg there's jellies!! Funny how it's called Anguish Lagoon but then in the concept art, they put jellyfish in it...

Were the jellies meant to be enemies, hence the Anguish in Anguish Lagoon?
