Sorry for bragging about WonderCon but when I was over there I met the composer of the Earthworm Jim 1 & 2, TOMMY TALLIRICO!
Image
He's a really cool guy and really great to talk to. He's the kind of guy who loves to talk with his audience. I met him at the Game On! panel where he gave an insightful introduction about the music field in the Video Game industry. After the panel, I met up with him to talk about Earthworm Jim. I told him about my game and asked if I could use some of his songs from EWJ for Elem. He said not to hesitate to ask for permission. That made me so happy to hear. Anyways, Tommy Tallirico was a real blast to meet in person!

Wow, that's great to hear. There are few EWJ musics that I like, like Anything But Tangerines and Snot a Problem.

*recently*

Been playing the SNES version (yeah, I know the sound effects suck in that version, but the graphics and music make up for it, so fuck you) of the first game rather casually lately, and have got a decent handle on the controls, to the point where I think I might be able to record a playthrough of it or something soon (idklol). But, yeah, groovy game, with groovy humor, and overall general grooviness (though the whip's latency is fucking annoying).

I also tried out the HD remake, and I'm rather disappointed with it. Aside from fucking up the sound completely (the voice samples...ugh), many of the animation frames have been either completely excluded or sequenced in such a way where various actions appear either too fast or too slow, but always in a way that makes them look unnatural. The controls also feel somewhat stiffer than before, probably due to latency that exists in the new code. Overall, it's just...well, in the words of Earthworm Jim, not "groooovy."

Also, Doug TenNapel is a raving homophobic asshole. Who knew? :P Eh, well, David Perry's still awesome.

I like most of the music in the game quite a bit, save the New Junk City theme.

I got EWJ2 from Christmas cos the version on my computer crashed after like 20 minutes or so. You start Lorenzen's Soil and it just freezes.

Try running it in Compatibility Mode.

I was disappointed to not see the Special Edition exclusive levels in it, Big Bruty was cool to play.

Likewise, but when it comes to other aspects, I liked HD remake. I think it is good remake unlike Sonic Adventure HD for example which was complete trash.

The sound wasn't remastered at all, though; it was rerecorded with a completely different person voicing Jim, whose performance is, to be honest, meh -- far, far worse than TenNapel's. The sound effects were completely redone as well, which weren't as bad as the new voice samples, even if, in my opinion, they were worse overall.

But, yeah, no code or assets from the original games were used, and in my opinion, the recreated ones didn't live up the the originals.

But when you actually look at the little details, it really isn't a very well done remake at all, but the fact that it isn't a complete mess lead people to the misconception that it is, in fact, good. :P

The one thing that annoyed me in EWJ2 was the amount of that one sound, when you drop one of Peter's puppies or you shoot an enemy or do ANYTHING it goes >poik< and I've been trying to find that specific noise on the Internet but I can't. It's ridiculous.

At least you didn't get ripped off with Steam DOS version which is overpriced and where Earthworm Jim 3D has no music in it for some reason.

Right, I heard that the Steam version is a scam. Earthworm Jim 3D for PC hasn't got music even in the original release I used to have. I somehow managed to sell the game even though it has got fame for being a messed up title.

Ah Earthworm Jim. This is a good game actually and for some reason it reminds me of Toejam & Earl (probably because both were on Sega Mega Drive). I remember playing it years ago and I'll actually revisit it now that I seen this thread :P

I also remember Nickelodeon started showing it again about 10 years ago and I used to watch it when I came home from school :hehe:
