Apparently some unhappy people decided to write up their thoughts.

At least I shall not complain about the place where the school is located. Regardless if it is in the afternoon or at night, the downtown is full of movement, police and tourists of almost every language. I've heard British, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, etc. I also helped a British couple once that asked me something in English.

EDIT: I forgot to mention how I absolutely hate to go to public bathrooms. Now with the train travels, even if I go to the bathroom before catching it, I'll get with will in the middle of the trip, so I almost always need to go to the metro's WC to pee. When I enter in the cabin, I had to go backwards really fast because the toilet was full of blood.

Nothing currently bothering me at the moment - meaning something is awfully wrong - however I must allow this thread to have another breath of air. I've always enjoyed the dense conversations that this thread causes.

I kinda wish I lived in a more, how do you call it, "raw" area? I've lived my life in two different towns and am going to end living in one of two in a couple of weeks and both are a bit boring. I'd like to get out of the suburbs for once. Everything feels a bit too polished and safe.

Ah yes, I definitely agree. I've lived in the suburbs for nearly my entire life and it's beyond boring. One lives in total and complete, safe isolation if one lives in the suburbs, no one even bothers to go outside, there is absolutely nothing to do but either sit in your house or go the a couple of the same nearest stores and even that's painfully boring unless you have money on account that you've been to those stores hundreds of times, and so on. What kind of lifestyle is that?

The suburbs are a lovely place to move to if you're ready to die, however.

Except nothing happens to begin with. Anyways, there are some good suburban neighborhoods, for example I have a friend who lives in a bigger suburban neighborhood where events actually rather and people do not solely sit inside of their houses doing nothing. Mine, however, is Hell minus the scorching fire.

I've never lived in a real suburb, just mostly on side street residencies. I did, however, used to live in downtown, and that was great. As for my Whistler home where I'm moving to in a few days again, that whole place isn't even remotely big enough to have different districts; it only takes like five minutes to drive past on the highway.

I'd love to live in the heart of a huge city. In a tall skyscraper especially at nighttime... ah, it'd be a wonderful view.

Since that's where my rich-ass friend lives, I can tell you that the view is even better and more magical than you could ever ever fathom.

Could you possibly elaborate on your experience of living in the downtown of city? I've always wanted to live in the center of a city myself.

it's exactly how you'd think it to be: vibrant, colourful, kind of sketchy, lots of thrift shops, lots of skyscrapers towering above you, streets packed with neon billboards, confusing traffic patterns, busking street bands, irregular and always interesting block/sidewalk design, a enormous sport/concert stadium, skytrains that circle l around thr whole place, and so many great places to eat. It's like a dream. I hope they have places like this in the UK.

Well, not so much in the towns, more quiet, but I think you'll enjoy some of the cities.

I was hoping that it'd be like that. Why everyone strives to move to the suburbs is beyond me. Many claim it's a great place to raise a child but it sure as Hell isn't unless you move to a larger suburban area with more activity. And then there's the whole stereotype of the city being dangerous - people act as though simply walking into an inner-city area will result in a cap in their ass which isn't correct in the least. My mom also told me that schools in the city are "bad" - well, the schools here aren't exactly top-notch on account that they're small and mediocre, look like dumps, and have ten year old textbooks.

When I'm able to drive I'm leaving this tasteless concentration camp.

I think what really bothers me about the suburbs is that everything looks the same. Every area is a copy of the other. Now the Texas environment is great and all, but why does everything have to be so... brown? During part of spring and all of summer grass can't live well and as a result it turns brown. On top of that the buildings are brown. All houses come with brown floors and walls. Everywhere I look I see fucking brown. It seems like a nitpick but half the year I feel like my life is in one colour. Whenever I'm out of the place during vacation, places noticeably colourful. I dunno, the place just doesn't make me feel good. It's dull and uninspiring, and it's actually a major reason as to why I'd prefer to stay in the Netherlands. Not that where I'd live is so much better but at least there's colour.

I agree, most suburban neighborhoods have no personality. It's all the same. This is especially true for apartment complexes in the suburbs - they're all exactly the same, dark brick color with no variations with the buildings.

I live in the middle of mountains but I'm still in a somewhat big city. There is no skyscrapers or anything like that though.

Hm, the housing area I live in does have identical looking housing, but the area itself is only 15-20 minutes away from the town centre, 'tis a nice place to live in, though I don't get out much nonetheless.

I live in a never-ending jungle of houses in which you're forced to drive everywhere and there's absolutely nothing entertaining to do. Downtown's not all too close nor is it that large.

I added a bit more info and a few more pictures to that post of mine, because I just adore the beauty of this city. Might want to open the last one in a new tab though, as half of it is getting cut off here.

Mountainous environments are always quite nice. I enjoy Canada's nature overall.

Dallas was/is one hour from me but it's proven itself to be the most empty and uninteresting city I've ever visited.
